Finally Tesla is fixing the most annoying issue I have with V12. Speed. They think they know better but i'm still the driver and don't want the car to drive slower than the traffic.
I was disappointed when they got rid of manual speed control but nowadays I much prefer automatic. When it switches to manual for certain highways I find I am often raising and lowering the speed, resulting in jerky speed adjustments. And I like that I no longer have to verify what my max speed is as speed zones and road conditions change.
I've had the same experience with pedestrians looking at me like '"are you going to stop". I know the car isn't going to hit them, but it needs to do better with making them feel safe.
HW3 : I would settle for the option of one, free, non-expiring FSD transfer to a new vehicle. That sells a new vehicle, saves me from FSD re-purchase, and gets me to FSD Unsupervised when I feel I’m ready. .
@@Steven-996I would say that is minimum, until we get FSD Unsupervised anywhere, not just Geo Fenced areas. There is no Guarantee that AI4 will be able to do Full FSD anywhere. That might require future AI5 hardware. Also I refuse to trade in my Model Y from 2021 for 20% of original purchase price. 80% depreciation after just 3 years is unacceptable, now if they gave 60% of purchase price I would gladly trade.
with all the country roads I drive (55mph speed limits), this update is something I really want to see. I got 12.5.4.2 yesterday. Hopefully I get 12.5.6.2 soon....looking forward to the time I don't have to keep nudging my car forward with the accelerator.
I have a 2022 Model 3 with HW3 and I would absolutely pay for a retrofit upgrade over a whole new vehicle. The vehicle is fine, just the FSD hardware needs an upgrade. They need to plan for that as people upgrade computers far more often than cars.
Great video! Thanks for acknowledging FSD does a better job in the city congestion compared to open roads. I noticed the same thing. In the rural areas- phantom breaking, wrong turns and dangerous maneuvers is so much more common for me on my HW4 2024 MYLR. Looking forward to testing this version soon!
This speed issue is so annoying. I'm probably going to get some camera speeding tickets for school zones. Speeding at 25mph zones and slow at 55mph zones
The Biggest problem I see with self driving is it doesn’t recognize school zone 20 mph. Bring my kids to school every day I go through multiple school zones and it never reduces the speed..
Most red lights have a set time to stay red/green depending on time of day and city/rural. Probably just some basic time tracking from fsd? Either way pretty cool on the green light prediction
Both version 12.5.4.1 and 12.5.4.2 have been worse than version 12.3.6. The main reason is that the newest versions are experiencing MASSIVE phantom braking at speed. Which is uncomfortable and unsafe if a car is behind you. Additionally, the newest versions have speed decay as everyone has stated and speeding in residential areas (going 10 plus mi over speed limit).
That scenario you are talking about when someone rear ends you into a pedestrian. it definitely does happen. If we want to be safer than humans taking these things into consideration really helps. Accidents are statistically pretty rare but still tons of people die.
I have hardware four with 12.5.4.2 just this week and it’s still really takes off locally. In a 40 mph zone, I would give me a ticket for the way it drives! Acceleration very quickly from 0 to 54 or 55 in a 40 mph zone. Yet, when I needed to go faster on the expressway, it just does its own thing and is way behind traffic. Still a lot of work to do.
Yeah, I'm on hardware 4 as well but with version 12.5.4.1 and the speed is all over the place if I set it to auto. I ended up just disabling the auto speed and limiting it to 15% offset, and that way I can control the speed myself when I need to. It just seems like on certain roads it is always either too slow or too fast. There is a specific section of a small community I tend to drive in a lot where the speed limit is 30mph, and it always wants to do 40mph in that area. Then I'll go on a specific section of the highway, and it will want to do 50 in a 65. It is just too inconsistent with the speed.
12.5.4.1 2024-MY I can't use auto in my area, I have a decent amount of areas that it doesn't know the right speed in both ways. Fast in slow and slow in fast. In my neighborhood, it pulls out of the driveway and goes to 55mph. On a rural road outside of town where it is a 55mph limit, it gets to a stretch, only in one direction, and sets to 25mph. I know the spots it happens so I started disengaging and reporting it. I do find it funny that before, I would set cruise control and have to steer, but now I set auto pilot and have to control the speed. 😂
Definitely need to fix the speed way too slow will not do the speed limit in lower speed zones My M 3 has tried to run for red lights and jackrabbit starts and hard breaking,, it's like a teenager and an old person driving😅
Had a pending update this morning excited beyond belief only to see that it was 12.5.4.2. Why on earth are they sending these older versions when they have reliable data on 12.6???
Thank you so much for your video. I love all your uploads. I am on HW4 Model Y and still haven’t got 12.5.6.1 .. is there something that I am missing? I feel like everyone on HW4 got that already.
I think you’re probably spot on with the opinion you have on the potential retrofit. I bought a model Y a week before they added the bio weapon defense mode. They told me that I would be able to retrofit that option onto my vehicle. And that retrofit is fairly simple. The parts and labor combined only cost $300 but it took them two years to start offering that service. retrofitting hardware three is going to be much more involved and I just don’t see Tesla Service centers being able to handle that.
It would be a real bummer to have to wait a few years to get FSD considering I purchased back in '21. I will probably get the next MYP and trade in my current MYP but having paid 10K for FSD, I am not anxious to pay for it again since I have never had it operate to it's intended level yet.
Totally agree with HW3 just fading away with no retrofit. It would make more sense to compensate HW3 FSD owners with an attractive incentive toward a new Tesla including free FSD transfer. When HW4 was introduced, I remember Elon stating that upgrades were not economically feasible due to incompatible cables and cooling requirements. It's more than just swapping out a board and cameras. Any type of retrofit would only serve a limited number of cars by the time it's designed, and the easy way out is just to compensate HW3/FSD owners. I traded in my 2018 Model 3 LR three months ago for a new Dual Motor and got Federal + State incentives plus free FSD transfer. I'd say trade in now while incentives still exist and be done with it.
I am still on 12.5.4.1. This version tries to go thru red light when there is a green light in not too far distance. Happened to me at least 3 times. This is scary.
Same here (Hdw3, 12.5.4.1). Phantom braking, sudden stops for flashing yellow lights including empty crosswalks, speeds, goes too slow, and turns into the oncoming lane. I no longer use it. EAP with all safety options turned off is as close as I can get to original AP w/Autosteer. Phantom braking is still an issue.
I don’t think any HW3 cars will get FSD past 12.5.4. You assume that AI4 can actually achieve FSD unsupervised outside GEO fenced area. You may need next years AI5 to get FSD unsupervised.
I have HW3 and suspect to have my car for another 3+ years and it has FSD bought and paid for...so yes the retro fits are going to happen if needed that said they where only going to replace the computer not the cameras.
Since CyberCab/RoboTaxi doesn't exist yet, if Tesla wants us to test any features intended for that service they need to provide us an easy way to disable said features. Afterall, these are OUR CARS, not Tesla's robo fleet and FSD should be focused on OUR needs and wants.
I really think the car should start to use the headlights and flash when its giving the other car or pedestrian the right away alot less awkward moments that way
Tesla lies are getting old. My 2 year old Hdw3 car is now just another redheaded stepchild of Tesla's failed projects. I get that it’s hard. Stop promising anything and just publish it once it works. Also, let us opt out of “free FSD”. 12.5.4.1 blows and there’s no way to fully remove its negative actions.
Yep, the worst thing they've done is promise things that didn't exist. Tell us your aspirations, but don't promise things that aren't currently possible
did anyone actually believe that the final ai product would work on what is essentially a 10 year old smartphone with hardware3 or whatever? thats what we call a scam
I would use my FSD way more if it just stayed out of the left lane unless it's passing. There needs to be at least some kind of logic there. Aggressive mode is not so much aggressive as it is rude. Oh, and apparently it's supposed to "drive faster"? Hah. Please get better!
This is what has me very concerned… I only recently purchased my 2024 Model 3, but now seeing the news of the issues with getting FSD to unsupervised with AI3, it really puts doubt in my head how far they will be able to get with AI4. It is almost like FOMO, where you stay wondering if you should wait to purchase the next thing because the current thing might not be capable of what you want or expected.
It seems cool that it works but is having hands off the wheel allowed? At minimum this seems irresponsible... Or did I miss something and fsd became fully autonomous?
It's part of a recent FSD update where the cameras track your eyes. If you look away from the road, it will require you to put your hands on the steering wheel, and eventually it will disengage completely if you don't react to its warning. I have tested it, and it is very sensitive, to the point that even looking down or to the sides for too long means it will give you a warning.
You know slower speeds just mean you spend less time in traffic right? The DOT is going to force FSD to never go over the speed limit, and not soon enough.
_The DOT is going to force FSD to never go over the speed limit_ No, they'll do no such thing. That would be NHTSA, who could have done this any time in the last 4-5 years and didn't.The reason is that limiting FSD to the speed limit would create the unintended consequence of many drivers disengaging FSD and driving manually with the flow of traffic; thus giving up the astonishing safety benefit of FSD, and *increasing* accidents, injuries and fatalities-the opposite of the desired result.
