This sort of video is my favorite, there are many channels that focus on gear, and while there's nothing wrong with that, I think those Alt Rock lessons
are really where TTMN has it's own style, and also they're super helpful!

I love chord inversions! For my song “Lost at Sea,” not only did I build nearly the entire song around second inversions, but I also tuned to E-A-D-G-C-D for a really rich sounding resonance.

Hey guys incase you haven’t seen here’s a link to grab the pdf I made. It’s got chord diagrams and shapes of the demo tracks in the video.
It’ll sign you up to a newsletter I’m gonna be putting out once a month to start with to go into more detail on guitar/gear tips!

Found your videos really fun and useful for my own playing!
Was wondering whether you’d do a video going over some of your guitar collection? I’m intrigued by the Jag you use in these videos and how you find the p90s fare with all of the fuzz and high gain.✌️

A trick I do a lot is take a power chord and rather then add the note right over the root I add it above and to the next fret like in a Cadd9 or Gmajor. I've always loved it either picked out or strummed. Great video man

Great stuff! I use inversions a lot in two guitar bands, especially where arpeggios and riffs would distract from the feel of the song.

@@thesethingsmakenoises yeah. I think it’s because they don’t do big choruses so they are less obvious/immediate.

There's a cool shape that Graham Coxon uses all over 13 (Coffee and TV/Bugman are the main ones) where it's a root on the A string, the octave of that, and then on the E string the note a half step above the 5th below.
Other shapes I like are adding the two high strings on a power chord (not sure if that's a Maj7th), the Weezer chord, and whatever Joey Santiago does.

Echo and the Bunnymen were my fave band at the time of Porcupine and Ocean Rain albums.
Never got into inversions other than playing the A barre and fretting the fifth on the E string, but that was more to do with having not worked out how to dampen that string

      Such good albums!
I think like you say about muting the top string, sometimes you can find cool stuff from accidents

5:15 - If I'm understanding the shape correctly, then I used to call this chord shape the Smashing Pumpkins chord in high school as I saw a few tabs in guitar magazines that showed it being used in several songs by the pumpkins.
Oddly enough, that chord shape was also used by Nirvana on About A Girl well before I knew about the pumpkins using it.
I did a tune in like 2009/2010 heavily based around that chord shape. Definitely a favorite in my limited arsenal.

    perfect 5th/powerchord inverted is actually the 4th if that's what are you talked about, e b e is e and 5th and octave, b e e is b and 4th, and 4th octave up

I'm not a pro, but I like to focus on triads and inversions of those, and do that on all string sets. And also try to connect to the inversions some other chords that sound good in a progression.
Don't forget to do major AND minor inversions. And then do the G barred chord and then play the inversions on the low E string, and then play the G major 7, then inversions, then G dominant 7, then inversions, and then finally G major 6, then the inversions. That's the beginning of jazzing up the chords and you might find chord shapes that you really like, that are easy to play and that sound great in the context of your music.

Surprised you didn’t mention the strokes in a video talking about inversions, they’ve been using a lot of them since like the first song off their first album
