    Thanks for the video. Lol, I just bought one of these. A year ago (to the day actually.) I bought an M710s for a NAS build and ended up using it for personal/office pc, and am planning the NAS build again with the M720. Though I am powering them externally (Connected via pcie card), I have a 4X 500GB 2.5" hdd parity (Win Storage Spaces) drive connected to it (As well as a 1TB M.2 boot drive, and (for now) a 3.5" 1TB HDD backup drive.). My M710s has 2 M.2 slots, but 1 is for wifi (If I remember correctly.). Not sure if it's the same with the M720, 😁 but will find out some time before Monday. I know these aren't really the best options for a NAS (Unless using M.2s, SSDs, and/or 2.5" HDDs); but I plan on getting a bigger case and power supply for this one, and moving to 3.5" for the mass storage drives. 🤔 Still using An M.2 (Or 2, if possible.) boot drive (and either M.2 or SSD backup) of course.

    • @infotechyeti
      @infotechyeti  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think I tried the same on creating a nas from a PC using linux. I think there's an actual linux os that is just for nas or an app to setup the PC as a nas. Just get 2 large drives. M.2 and larger hdd. That's what I have in mine. Good luck

    • @jeremyhenderson163
      @jeremyhenderson163 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      :) Thanks. Lol while I have successfully experimented with Linux and Red Hat variants, I'm more of a Windows guy (mostly for the familiar GUI). Though I plan on going with TrueNAS Scale (for it's familiarity, and simple plug-ins.), I'm not a big fan of the RAM-hungry ZFS file system. So I may consider a Linux based OS as a lightweight alternative. Keep up the good work man; 😅 "Because knowledge is power", and the world needs more of it.

    Great video thanks. From what I can see, there's an additional 2.5" bay for an SSD, and another bay for a 3.5" HDD. But I'd like to install my 2 mirror 3.5" HDDs. Can you install two 3.5" drives? (or two 2.5" SSDs? ). Thanks

      Hi...we can only install two 2.5 ssd. You may need an ssd enclosure or bracket to fit it nicely in the 3.5” bay to have that setup. Hope this helps. Thanks for the comment.

    Hi, Jonathan Torres! Thank you for your video! I'm thinking on buying a LENOVO M720s SFF, but I saw that it doesn't come with WIRELESS/BLUETOOTH basic preinstalled. It's even not possible to order them as optional items for the models sold in Brazil. So, I'd like to know if you have ever installed a WIRELESS/BLUETOOTH card on it. I saw in your video a m.2 port available besides the SSD card. Is it possible to plug a WIRELESS/BLUETOOTH card in that slot? Thanks for your attention! Best regards.

      Hi Camilio yes that other M.2 slot is actually for a wireless card. I made a mistake on the video stating that another SSD could be installed in that slot. It’s actually for a wireless card. I’m thinking an intel m.2 with both WiFi and Bluetooth would work for that. I’d recommend to check on Lenovo.com. Thank you for the comment

Thank you very much indeed.

    • @infotechyeti
      @infotechyeti  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Roberto. I don’t think the power supply would support it. I have setup larger Lenovo laptops w integrated video cards and they came with bigger power supplies. I think it’s a 65W power supply that comes with this laptop.

    • @thewheelieguy
      @thewheelieguy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@infotechyeti What, no... It has a couple of different power supplies depending on options, but I believe the smaller is still 250 watts. Plenty for a simple graphics card. The simplest solution for HDMI, though, is a simple converter cable. These are Displayport++ ports that can do DVI or HDMI with a very inexpensive cable.

  • @Krystianissimus
    @Krystianissimus 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've got this machine. I get it from office to use it at home. Unfortunately, it has no power cable for additional drives (e.g. hard drives, 2,5" SSDs etc.). It is special cable for 4-pins power port on the motherboard. That cable has to be bought separately (which I had to do - I have bought it in China for fair price, because I'm planning to install internal 2,5" and 3,5" hard drives, regardless of M.2 SSD drive). Second issue is that there is no audio line input port for recording from external sources via audio stereo minijack cable. There is only stereo audio out minijack port. And issue no. 3 - I don't have optical disk drive (but I wanted to have). For that I'll have to buy front bezel (which is not so expensive) but also a optical disk drive latch which price is horrendous and a latch is practically hard to buy in reasonable price. So I discarded that idea and ordered external optical drive bay on USB 3 and I'm planning to order laptop internal ODD for that external bay.

    • @infotechyeti
      @infotechyeti  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I think I noticed the same with the optical disk drive missing when I ordered one after making this video. For any business office most won't need it since most business offices work off of secure cloud storage drives. As a tech I keep a usb to dvd drive available as a loaner and can count how many times in my experience when a client needed one. Hope all turned out okay. Thank you for the comment.

      There is no plase where you would fix that card. Moreover, you don’t have any power cables for such GPU from the power supply.
      So while in theory you can, in reality you have to use PCIE only powered low profile GPU.
      Power suppliesxon these machines are not that powerful (typically 180 - 210 W) and as said, there is no separate output to power gpu from them.
      Use RX 6400 or RTX A2000 (but such machine has to have 210 W power supply ideally).

      Hello Ja Mone, is it asking for the password from the Windows login or the Lenovo screen? If its from the Lenovo screen its probably locked from the bios. There may be a way to reset the bios. Maybe try removing the cmos battery? If not then there should be a way to reset that or you may have to flash (reset) the bios to do so. If its Windows asking for the administrative password you should be able to boot into the recovery to reset windows back to factory settings. Hope this helps and thanks for the question.

    Should I buy a used m710s 4gb ram 500gb hdd within extended warranty? What components are not covered with these units in the extended warranty?

    • @infotechyeti
      @infotechyeti  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Rahul, I think it's not a bad purchase. I'd upgrade the memory and get a faster hard drive if it isn't a solid state drive. I'm not sure if the extended warranty but in my experience they still work well. I'd get a nice small profile dedicated video card. It depends on what kind of work or applications u will use w the computer.

    • @infotechyeti

      Yes you need a low profile for this. I even have a low profile older video card from a dell and it wouldn't fit in this one. Make sure you find the best to fit this one

    • @infotechyeti
      @infotechyeti  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello TheXam96. I am not sure if it would fit but if its a low profile I dont see why not. Just make sure that the default power supply in the M720s could support the video card you want installed. I think the only one I could install was a low profile 2GB video card. If you need more video processing for high intense gaming I wouldnt recommend this setup. I would recommend this for anyone working on maybe some decent photo or minor video editing or even for a decent streaming pc or high productivity.

      I believe a 2GB video card last I checked. It’s smaller form factor pc and think it’ll handle a good amount of what you need. I wouldn’t recommend any high resolution editing of videos some gaming and intense work. All depends your work.

    • @infotechyeti
      @infotechyeti  10 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Honestly this pc isnt great for todays video games. You can install, I think a max 2GB video card due to the limit space to install a graphics card. Itll still work good for any high end cad or minor video or photo editing but not for high end stuff or gaming. Might as well get a gaming console or get a larger pc that can support a larger video card. I hope this helps.
