The Japanese producers and writers don't want to continue with Ash getting together with all his friends to fight Team Rocket, they don't want to plan Ash and Giovanni's final battle, they just keep ignoring all the plans.
I have a feeling the reason they went for the ending they did was for something to say that even if we don't see them Ash's adventures will continue.

Also i never understood why butterfree and pink butterfree needed to live and raise their baby carterpies in a random forest when they could do it at the ranch with the help of bulbasaur and the others and also by doing so butterfree could more time training and helping Ash haha 😂😅🤷🏻♂️

Leaving squirtle with the squirtle squad in my opinion makes not really any difference because we’ve seen ash can just get him at any point and even see in sun and moon the squirtle squad had hung around oaks lab before, but on the topic of lapras and butterfree I see your point and somewhat agree but them being relased makes more sense cause yes butterfree and the pink one could have gone to oaks lab the thing is I think pink one had a trainer as well so it going to leave it’s trainer and stay with ash seems a little weird, and for lapras it’s a Pokémon that would need to be in water most of the time so it would be relatively stuck at oaks lab.
@@Sman128 hahah but same applies to primeape and goodra and Ash never called Anthony for Primeape and Ash just called Goodra’s Park Warden once. Having squirtle at the lab constant training with the rest and at hand is way better and easier. Regarding pink butterfree; remember that profeasor oak keeps the pokemon of MANY trainers in his ranch, not only Ash’s. Regarding pink butterfree’s trainer, if she released it to be free and with a partner, she would be more than thrilled that she could call her at any time from Oak’s lab.
Remember how they located the lost Piplup that washed away in Vermilion city? Well, if they found its trainer all the way in Sinnoh, it wouldn’t be that hard to find a female trainer of a pink butterfree that was released near Vermilion City haha.
Oaks Lab has a huge lake and a river that conecta to the ocean i think. Well Pallet town connects to the ocean. So i think that Lapras would be fine. If Lorelei has a Lapras permanently in its pokeball, i don’t think a lake would hurt Ash’s. Besides, Lapras is well fitted to be the pokemon of a Champion haha.
Still, u made one of the best what ifs in history hahah. Im a big fan of pokemon and im very against in releasing them. Once caught until death do us apart hahah.
