Sydney Lumet has directed many movies without any musical score : “12 Angry Men” (1957), “The Offence” (1973), “Dog Day Afternoon” (1975), for instance. But in “Network” (1976), the lack of music is far more telling and meaningful than anywhere else. The reason : it emphasizes the pervasive coldness of the TV business world, in which audience rating prevails as the name of the game. AT ALL COSTS. The motion picture was released only two years after the very first on-screen suicide in television history : news reporter Christine Chubbuck had shot herself on camera on July 15, 1974. In 2000, the film was selected for preservation, by the Library of Congress, as being “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant”. In 2007, “Network” was 64th among the 100 greatest American Films as chosen by the American Film Institute. A bona fide classic with a cast to die for. ❤️ 📺 ❤️

I saw “Network” when it first came out & thought it was good, but didn’t see it again until it aired on Netflix a few weeks ago. What an absolutely brilliant movie! It won 4 Oscars. Faye Dunaway was never more beautiful, Peter Finch received a posthumous Oscar, which I felt should have gone to Travolta that year for “Saturday Night Fever.” After watching Finch’s performance again I have to admit he deserved it. The man had a hard problem and the part of Howard Beale was not a relaxing one-no part in the movie is. He was from Australia but you never could tell, his American accent was spot on. This is now on my list of favorite movies, everything about it is so good-the screenplay, directing, acting are perfection

It was a pretty good film. Dunaway's character however was quite annoying and obnoxious. It became difficult to not become annoyed with her batshit crazy dialogue/behavior throughout the movie. Some parts are timeless if not predicate future issues if we substitute the concept of television broadcasts to today's media circuses and social networking platforms. Sadly, little has fundamentally changed at all since 1976. But then there's the parts that didn't age well that make it enjoyable on an Archie Bunker/Fred Sanford level. :)

I just watched the Netflix release Don’t Look Up. It’s definitely a satire about Covid and the election year and it isn’t horrible but I definitely wouldn’t recommend it or watch it again. It’s was rather boring and in suspenseful aswell as the characters are rather hard to like. Heard this was a iconic satire movie! Gonna have to give it a try! That first scene from the trailer was already hilarious.

It was a pretty good film. Dunaway's character however was quite annoying and obnoxious. It became difficult to not become annoyed with her batshit crazy dialogue/behavior throughout the movie. Plus her fling angle with a wrinkled up bag of bones man made zero sense at all for the film and just piled on the already complete bs involving Dunaway.

It certainly is like this, to the way many people in society conduct themselves from media influences. The people screaming out of windows "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore." A good portrayal here of the engrossed viewer of TV networks, unbecoming behavior and tribalism ensued today.
