Thank you for showing the disassembly / reassembly. This will help a lot of people resurrect or maintain these great little devices and keep them going for years to come!
thanks so much for this video. my CDX stopped spinning discs and i didn't change out the laser but i did a cap kit on it and it's up and running again. it would have been 10 times harder without this video showing me exactly how to take it apart. thank you!
I greatly appreciate your work with this video, it inspired me last year to go straight into recapping my childhood CDX. after a week of on and off work (and getting caps missing from my kit..) it was a complete success, one of the caps was leaking as i suspected! It was my first full recap and first time touching any kind of power board which was the thing putting me off the idea in the first place. You make the actually intimidating part of taking the system apart and putting it back together much easier.
Congrats for the video. You are the first one that showed how to disassembly and re-assembly this console. I just didn't understand why you put music when you were putting back the laser. I believe you gave great informations and tips that moment. You got a new subscriber. Thanks
@@RetroGamingWithHopper Hey Hopper, thanks again for the video. If you have time maybe you can help me. I got mine and the disk was not spinning. I did replace all the caps, I bought a new laser and replaced and I also cleaned everything. After I did all this I could make it spin but it's making a wierd noise and isn't spining well. Maybe you can see this video and help me. Thank you very much for your time. th-cam.com/video/aOdcYEbbCO0/w-d-xo.html
Fantastic video thanks for doing this. I've recently purchased a CDX and I love it ! Although I had to send it for repairs, cap replacement but will be totally worth it so the old girl will last another 20 years :)
I do enjoy doing repair videos, it's just sometimes I don't explain enough. I hate watching videos when they think you should know or it's a big secret has to how to do it.
Great vid! I used your video as a guide to open up my CDX and just clean it up inside using some compressed air. There was some gunk that had built up over the years. It works great but the one slight mistake I might have made is that, at the beginning where you mentioned not to take out one small screw (to the left of the unit, opposite the "line out" port) as that is just a hinge screw. Not sure if that has anything to do with the fact that now I need to manually open the lid, it won't spring up when pressing the open button.
Awesome video I changed the laser in my cdx unfortunately didn't fix the issue turns out my problem was my original cdx power supply ,was the blame had to recap the supply it's only one cap it's a 16v 6800uf cap after doing that my CDX was playing perfectly again I noticed this because my cdx would not read correctly from cold boot so I left the cdx power supply in the wall for half-hour then plug in the supply too the back of cdx then it would run so after changing the cap out it was fine again from cold boot
@@RetroGamingWithHopper thanks hopper hopefully this helps others as your video helped me thank you again friend couldn't have taken my cdx apart with your fantastic video I've done teardowns on just about everything , but my cdx always scared me till finding your video , one day I will hopefully get around to replacing the drive belt in my Panasonic Q - GameCube now there a scary teardown that thing is like a house of cards on the inside
BRAVO showing proper disassembly! Question: how would you feel the new laser would perform using CDR disks? I learned that such media shortens the life of the laser due to voltage. What is your opinion on this since a new laser was installed on the console in the video. CDR media will shorten the life of the original laser assembly from SEGA. Thank you once again for the great video demonstration.
You are getting a little to technical for me. I do a lot work on home consoles but I don't get to technical. My thinking is there should be know problem reading CDR discs and losing performance on a laser. There to many other factors that could cause a laser to lose performance.
i would like to know the name of your repair shop and the address, how much you charge to repair ,how much it will be to get the item returned after repair,i already got a laser lens ordered from ebay, if hopper agrees to repair i will send laser lens in with cdx, its a sega cdx,the start screen keeps saying please insert cd,i do that but the cdx does nothing,i also got some other consoles for hopper to repair later on
I recently got a cdx that was used only a few times. Here is the issue I have, when playing tomcat alley the game will randomly freeze during a cut scene. Disc is free from scratches. It looks brand new, it also takes a anywhere from 5 seconds to 30 seconds to boot a new cut scene. Disc spins, it’s relatively quiet. Sonic cd took a few moments to boot past the menu but in game play is flawless, the sega classics game and every game inside it plays flawless. It had the correct power, I have no idea what could be causing it. Any thoughts?
@@RetroGamingWithHopper guess what was sort of dumb question, could do a test on the caps when i tear it down that far and observe them. good deal tho for last 5 years or so people were saying you cant find replacement lasers for sega cdxs....guess thats changed tho? and i saw on amazon they have a laser thats cheaper than the one you linked not sure if its the same one
Dude Thank you! , I've been looking for a video like this for ages. Quick question any chance you could share the Ebay Link so we know which exact one to buy? Thank you , Also you earned new Sub
Great video!! If I could ask.....in your experience after a good cleaning would it be a cap related problem if my cdx will not hold a picture steady? Picture will not hold vertically, and will scroll on its own.
I have never seen that problem. But I would start by inspecting all the caps. Any in question I would pull and test. Just for peace of mind try hooking it up a different TV and see what happens. I had one that had a bad fuzzy screen, I hooked it up to another TV and the picture was as clear as it was when it was new. Also, try a different component cable if you can. Eliminate all the easy things before you tear into removing and replacing caps.
friend help me i would like to know what is this component on the power supply board has a W7 plus the other one you can't see could you help me please it is close to the voltage regulator

Hi are you still taking in repairs?
Hi Hopper, tks for that video. I would now, if is there a way to mod a sega genesis CDX to make then to run game CD which is not original
Sorry, I don't do not mods.
Good video! 👍
Hello is the laser SF-C93 with 10 pin compatible with the CDX? Or is only the SF-C93AQ compatible? Thank you.
The laser is a SF-C93 That is the only one I could find. The link is pin in my description.
@@RetroGamingWithHopper ok thank you. 👍
Do you what the resistor is that connects to the metal shield? Mine broke off
What the color bands on the resistor?
@@RetroGamingWithHopper part of it broke off and Im not sure where it went

Do you offer Sega CDX repair services? Or know anyone that does? I can’t seem to find anyone. I thinking the laser needs to be replaced.
I do the repairs I just don't have the time at the moment. With working on the arcade.
Parabéns ótimo vídeo! BRASIL - RIO DE JANEIRO!
