    It is so cool that Ben makes controllers for people with disabilities. When I was paralyzed many years ago I thought I would never be able to play a game again. This may seem like a small thing but could make all the difference for someone recently injured. Being able to play games again could give people a lot of joy and aid in recovery.

      A total waste. These modders eat away at the few remaining units left for often short sighted results.
      Sega isn't making more of these ya know. Maybe we should preserve the few that remain.

      @@kchalu you're right, this project was a complete waste of resources and an insult to Sega.

    Even if it made the case bigger, I would have kept the Genesis cart slot in there.

    • @hernanpayne1420
      @hernanpayne1420 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, it was a must if you played some RPG. Shining force CD for example, without ram cart you cannot unlock the last two books, because they required to have the original save game, which is 99 slots!! (the sega cd had 125 internally). It looks like a standard Genesis cart.

    I had every version of the sega Genesis and all the add ons but the CDX was my favourite I had it and my portable television in my ford bronco so I could play it at lunch when I was in high school.

    I would recommend the Sega Genesis CDX because it is a standalone Sega CD console. Add-ons for the Genesis cause a lot of clutter. There is also a Sega CD memory cartridge that saves your game data. The Sega CD memory cartridge can fit into your model 1 and model 2 Genesis consoles and it can also fit into your CDX. I have an idea: get a Sega power strip where the sockets are rotated and spaced out and plug in your model 1/model 2 Genesis, plug your Sega 32X add-on into either the model 1 or model 2 Genesis, plug in your CDX and last but not least, plug in your Sega Saturn and Sega Dreamcast and you're all set.

  • @jameslewis2635
    @jameslewis2635 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That was pretty a pretty cool project but there are some things I would have wanted to do differently. Firstly I would have wanted to dump the CD drive and replace it with an SD card reader so you could just copy the ROM's from your PC and in effect have the entire CD library with you which would also drain less power from the battery than a physical drive. I would also have placed the controls either side of the screen to give better stability while in use. Like others have commented, I would also have liked to keep the cartridge slot functional, probably by re-routing the port to either the top or the base of the unit.
    An alternative project that would be cool is a mobile emulation box. Think about this project being run by something like a Raspberry Pi with storage via USB or memory cards that you could use to run all your old games on the run. It could be smaller and lighter. Also because of the modern design of the items used along with their low power requirements you would have better battery life as well as not having to rely on Ebay for parts.

    • @jameslewis2635
      @jameslewis2635 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would have thought you would use something like an arduino to act as a controller for the sd card reader. I guess that while the concept is simple enough the coding could be a bit of a nightmare.

    At the end, Ben says "you don't need all this," and throws aside the Genesis, Sega CD, and Sega 32x.
    The CDx doesn't have 32x support, though, so you would still need to have the giant mushroom on top.

    Saturn had something silly like 5 procs too. Part of the reason it was a nightmare for devs to make games for, and still diffucult to emulate to this day.

  • @cakestalker
    @cakestalker 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    One major flaw with the portable is that the cartridge connector gets covered up and you lose the support for Genesis\Mega Drive cartridges, and can only play Sega CD games.. other than that cool handheld :)

      Though this is an old comment, I think I can shed some light on your question. I have a friend who owns more or less all Sega hardware ever made. Kind of a fanatic if you ask me, but that's okay. Anyway, I've asked this question before and was told that it is possible but you'd need to do a good bit of work and it would require a few extra parts that might be hard to find. I've never heard of it personally.
