      Xen is most beautiful. It always reminds me of the heavenly city, lets hope all of creation is saved eventually to see it:
      The foundations of the city walls were adorned with every kind of precious stone: The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.

    I remember being totally immersed in the game and I felt like a Gordon that's feeling fatigued from fighting and seeing death constantly with no end in sight, almost dead from some aliens on this bizarre scary alien world all alone, only to stumble upon this pool that finally gives a glimmer of rest and recovery from the constant violence. I sat in that pool for about ten minutes I'd say, and I even closed my eyes, realizing this alien world isn't entirely the surreal hell I thought it was.

    I think this is a perfect example of what an alien world would actually sound like, it's not over done and that's what I love about it so much. I know this is the sound for the "healing pool" but I always thought that the droning sound that is created could be the sound of air passing through porous rock or wind passing through some kind of alien trees creating a sound of an odd musical quality. The squeaking sound reminds me of something that could be the equivalent of bird songs on Earth. Very alien sounding track but also very familiar sounding at the same time.

  • @MoneyHoneyBunny
    @MoneyHoneyBunny 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    Honestly, this should be like a 24/7 twitch asmr stream lol. This is 1 of the greatest sound effects in the history of the world, not just games... I mean Half Life,, that era of FPS games with Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament, the music and sound was unmatchable. Its never been close to the same now, most games use 'traditional music' rather than having their own in house creations.

    This evokes confusing emotions. It's calming, yet it's sort of ominous. Xen has some of the best sound design I've ever seen, anywhere. Before going there I already thought the game was a masterpiece, but this truly showed the full extent of the atmosphere work this game was capable of. Unforgettable.

  • @trashrat8365
    @trashrat8365 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I always figured that those whistles and chirps in the background of the game were probably just Xen lifeforms that we've never seen before. Call it a crackpot theory but I think those sounds were actually inspired by the sound of two black holes colliding pitched up. It sounds exactly like the chirping of some alien creature. Its pretty interesting to speculate.
