Hi Niclau, Whilst compiling a chillout mix I discovered a version of 'Radio' sampled at the beginning of a track called '2B There 4U'. See what you think - www.mixcloud.com/michaelbermingham1968/absolute-chill-mix-43-buddah-lounge-and-cafe-arabesque/
No cutscenes, no quicktime events, no bullshit like todays gen, no season pass, no shitty DLC, no micro trans-, no stupid multiplayer before single player story, ambiance, the overall look and feel, good engine and so on....
@@swemx7403 everything SWeMX said, also the ambience is Very distinct and unique; seldom anywhere are you going to find a merger of architectural Brutalism, minimalism, Lovecraftian surrealism, Orwellian dystopianism, chemistry, particle physics, biology, and combat that's less like parkour Assassin's Creed, and more so like the feeling of being at a firing range meets blunt force trauma. It's wayyyy ahead of its time.
Yup. HL1 - 2, Portal 1-2, L4D 1-2, Team Fortress 1-2 are all great. And yeah, Story-Driven gameplay all the way !! We take a control on our character in every situation without a cinematic moment !! HL and any other plot-driven FPS as well !!
Well, it does add to the importance of the loud thunderous moments. After a while, the ambience can get to me in a way not many other things can, especially in valve games. There's just something about it...
_sick 0 The music pretty much reflects on gordons mood at the current situation. So for example when he reaches black mesa east the music or ambient resembles gordon looking back on the past currently.
@@jobelthirty1294 There is something so strange about the ambience of valve games like i could sit and idle and get this unique feeling. It could just be that I was quite young (bout 10) when I played, and video games were the only thing i felt comfortable in but even now i still get that weird nostalgic feeling just listening to the ambience. Hell even just sounds that they used shoots me into that mysterious feeling again. I remember how the universe felt so real and I would find relations of atmosphere in places where i lived which increased the feeling. Whatever it is, i love it but also feel mystified.
+Steelgirl, exactly. The music...well not only the music, but the storyline and many features of the Half-Life series stay true to Sci-Fi. Not depending on futuristic technology and spaceships to be a Sci-Fi. Music-wise, listen to Lab Practicum, Shadows For and Aft, and my personal favorite Particle Ghost. It gives you this mysterious Sci-Fi vibe. And if you seriously listen to that type of music, you start to feel existentially lost. What else is out there? What are the universe's secrets? That's what makes the Half-Life series to so different from most Sci-Fi stories. And for action music? Half-Life has got some good action music. Better than most. Really gives you some adreneline!
People think black mesa, or ravenholm is the most ambiance feeling here.. i disagree. Echoes of a Resonance Cascade 19:18 is my number one ambiance in the whole game. Just that feeling that you're inside that colossal building.. the citadel. All the machines working, like giant clockworks. It's like you can almost hear it.. breathe.
Honestly, Escape Array its the best for me, it is so chill on the start and it turns so sad, it kinda makes us think of how citizens live on HL universe
this is 10/10 ambience shit, you can image whole areas and sounds just when you hear this.. 11:13 you can see city buildings and hear combine sniper shooting zombies, or 19:18 you can hear the Geiger counter and picture trucks with turned lights in that fucked tunnel...
Love this tracklist, good transitions and mix of familiar songs in a fresh way, thank you OP Only question, any chance you could change the image to something that better reflects the ambiance? Maybe with hard and soft edges
It is a radio that can be found in the chapter "Anticitizen one". It's made with two samples - "Distorted trumpets" and "Is that the door?" with a raised pitch. Very creepy
This and Half Life 1 were timeless classics made by Valve. A pity they turned out to be just another greedy gaming mogul who don't care about their community.
everyone has there pinnacle song or ambiance track but we can all agree hl2 ost is just fucking banger and im still listening to it even 18 years later from when my uncle first introduced me to the series. Video games are powerful work of art.
'Radio' have been stuck in my mind ever since i first played the Synergy Half Life 2 mod back in my early PC-gaming days. So damn creepy

Yo bro I’m deadly agree with you m8
I’m in love with “radio”
11:12 This is my favorite, you just escaped ravenholm and now have to deal with the Combine again, sniper section is always my favorite
this track and that feeling when you just escaped ravenholm is like waking up very early in the morning in the winter and drinking glass of cold water
why is half life such of a perfect game?

It's because valve is finally learning but messed up csgo
i'm in love with this video, i find that the most important part of any game is the ambience

haha vraua UP shane here
Check out portal 1 music. Has a similar feel
This soundtrack is sooo ovelooked both from a sound design and musical perspective
Half-Life 2 soundtrack and ambience is literally better than many modern games in total...

Agreed,
Although Inside was amazing,
And depending on who you are, the atmosphere of Skyrim was pretty incredible imo
"I have never played any videogame released past 2004"
You don't have to be an asshole in order to compliment the game's soundtrack, you know.
New stuff bad old stuff good

If you want to hear it "breathing, listen to track 44 "entanglment' It literally sounds like a giant machine heartbeat/breath
Honestly, Escape Array its the best for me, it is so chill on the start and it turns so sad, it kinda makes us think of how citizens live on HL universe
There are theories that the citadel might be a live organism, especially with tubes that look like veins or arteries going through it
For me its escape array and particle ghost. Give me the chills every time but I love it
Don't leave me..
I loved what they had done to him in the Epistle 3.
alone. I don't want them to hear us. If you want to escape, go through the canal.
1:05 deep
Probably the most poignant scene in this entire magnificent game.
Why do we all have to wear these ridiculous ties?
my is normal .
Get a life, both of you.
Truly amazing.
6:20 this is cool
Finally
The voices in my head are quiet
i love 4:00, it hit different after replaying the game for like the 10th time
Everyone gangsta till Triage at Dawn plays
I played it in the background while reading Epistle 3 - had tears in my eyes
I will put this on repeat until HL3's release. So I will listen to this until I die I guess. No problem with that.
literally was listening to this while working like whole 7 years, thx)))
Using this to work on my programming project all week TYSM.
This game is just so damn perfect!
Thanks for this compilation!
so perfect! black mesa inbound is immense!
the whole ambience of this game is too good it's still so immersive to this day
I love the Nova Prospekt music though, it's so dope and eerie.
MAN, I've been searching for Broken Symetry and didn't remember the name, thanks!
9:52 when I heard this, I felt good knowing I was out of Ravenholm.
Thank you !
Gordon? Its on the way. Gordon? everyones dead. Gordon? its here. thats all i hear from the radio
Escape array & Black mesa inbound...
It's been far too long.
Rise and Shine, Mr. Freeman, Rise and Shine...
Fucking brilliant
Thanks bro, so much.
our resurrected teleport is real nostalgic for me
whoa sounds like my childhood here
Escapable Array is so good
radio and probably not a problem are best
