My husband and I just followed your instructions because we want our temperature to stay at the same temperature as well especially in the summer! Thanks for the information and good luck everyone with yours.
This works! I see this video is a couple years old. But, Nest told me this exact way, and it’s been perfect ever since! I, like you, have different work schedules. I love that I can now control everything how I want manually, or through my phone when I’m away! 👍🏾
Late to the nest "manual" party 😏, but THANKS FOR THIS INFO 👍👍👍! Tried this method because I was having same issue 😡😤. Will report back after observations. Update: working for me!!
It’s much easier to go into manual mode with the app. (Perhaps this video is over one year old and people weren’t using the app back then) You press settings, go to auto schedule and turn it off, go back to settings press the calendar and delete all the little bubbles that have been pre-scheduled. That’s it! 👍🏼
I hate this POS product... HOW CAN IT BE SO DIFFICULT TO SET THIS PIECE OF CRAP TO A SPECIFIC TEMPERATURE AND HAVE IT HOLD PERMANENTLY?? Computer programmers making life more difficult day by day... It's insanity.
No... that doesn't work. Turning off the "learning mode" will still leave the data. You have to DELETE the data. Then it will work as the video shows. Hugs and kisses... the idiot.
Thanks! Very clear instructions. Nest should hire you. Actually, they need to redesign this thermo. I bought it, because I'm caring for an elderly woman and this had the temp in big #'s and seemed so easy, just turn to the temp. you want. A total mess! I set the AC and left to go some things, came home and she was sweating and close to death. I hope the co. updates the thermo., so it has an "manual mode".
Thanks for this info My wife has been complaining for about 3 weeks that the heater is broken The house is to cold and the thermostat not working I have been trying to get the house to the right temp But this Dam Nest has a mine of its own Thanks you may have fixed the problem
Thank you. I was waking up in the middle of the night and adjusting the Nest. I presume it believed that because there was no motion to needed to go to ECO mode, with different high & low setpoints than I had entered. There is snow outside, has been and internal temperatures in the low 40℉s do not work. Found this post and we now like the Nest. I was getting ready to replace it with 1 year before failure thermostat. Now it maintains the set point ± 2.0℉.
Thank you so much! I was going bonkers. For instance the AC would automatically shut off in the middle of the night. Agree with the comment below: overengineered! I also wonder how accurate the thermometer is. My condo gets very cold even when it is supposedly 74. I'll get my own thermometer.
I did these steps today, but the Nest Sense feature under “Should Auto Schedule learn from your adjustments?” It won’t set to No. Every time I go back to Nest Sense, it’s still set at Yes. I want to throw this thing into a river.
Well after doing a ton of research myself I came to the same conclusion, there is no way to override the nest schedule for an extended period of time. Most times I want to use the schedule that I manually set up. But my work shift schedule occaisionally changes for short periods of time and I would like to bypass the nest schedule and run manually. But it really irritates me that the nest will not let me have that option. You can only bypass until the next scheduled change. I have a Honeywell wifi thermostate that easily allowes me to bypass schedule for as long as I need to. Looks like I will be reinstalling that.
I just got my 2nd Nest and it keeps scheduling so I'm glad I found this video. I didn't know you had to reset the schedule. So annoying. I just wanted a thermostat that could be control via voice and phone application.
Thank you for the video and showing us how to turn off the self learning mode. We need to leave our home for 3 days every month and the nest would relearn what our home should be set at. Once home again it would finally have learned where we want it after a few weeks, then we leave for another 3 days. Two of us are disabled and I require life support equipment so the temps varying wildly doesn't make for easy living.
I'm hoping this works!!! I'm in a rental home and after doing all the things you tried also and having the fan/heat/ac constantly keeps coming on when I want the whole thing off!!!! Heat OFF, AC OFF & Fan off doesn't mean OFF. Crazy frustrating. Yes our bill goes up. So glad to try this and glad I know about it before building our house. It looked cool at first. It's not a smart system it's a stupid system!
this has helped loads, but, one other question- whats with pre heating? am i being thick? if i get home and the temp is, say, 9 degrees, i turn it up to 21, it the says preheating and it will be 21 in say 2 1/4 hrs!! i need heat now, so have to just put it onto manual, HEEEEEELP !!!!!
Isn't the idea of the learn mode to learn what your setting the temperature on your thermostat to do it automatically for you??? I'm just asking because I was looking into getting one...
@@joetarlos Yes. It learns from you changing your temps at certain times of the day so you don't have to go in and program it for several times a day for every day of the week. There are options to set the low temp as well so it does not go below that. People are buying learning thermostats and then try to turn the leaning off. Why buy one, then? Because it looks nice on your wall? I know some people have legitimate issues. But, some just don't want to learn how it works and take shortcuts.

I’m having the issue where the best thinks my home temp is one thing and it’s not and turns my heat off. To damn cold in Chicago for that!! Damn you nest
Thanks for your help. I followed a similar video yesterday and today the dang thing started doing it's own thing again. I'm worried it won't hold again and this will become a daily thing to do. Ugh... :(
Omg ty it’s so annoying it turns off all night and all day It’s hot here in Florida 🙈 I’m visiting my daughter and she doesn’t no how to adjust either!!!!! Ty kind sir😊
Just got a Nest, i'm in the UK - had the same problem with it doing its own thing, so turned of the auto and pre-set the temp through out the day. if its too cold or hot i can still turn it up and down. Plus it can not work out the whole of your house temp so will only set the temp in the room you have it, mine is portable, so have moved it to the coldest place and that is the conservatory, where i spend most of my time, then just adjust the radiators TVRs (Thermostats) around the house to try and compensate, but there is heat difference through out the house. Should have just had a thermostat on the boiler, would have saved some money.
WOw, I want mine to just stay at one temperature all the time. I come home and it's 63 degrees in the house. It's going to be 3 degrees out on Monday, I don't want my furnace to quit on me, haha.
My AC stops running every time I leave the house. Temp rises to over 80 degrees by the time I return home in the evening and it takes 4-5 hrs to get back down to 70. So damn irritating!
I followed these steps with high hopes, but it didn't work for me. It's 17 degrees today, and my heat won't stay on. I have to keep turning the temp down below the room temp, then turn it back up to get the heat to kick back on. and it only stays on for a couple minutes. Ready to take a hammer to this thing.
I'm in the same boat. Bought a house with the nest. I've turned off all the automation, the air wave, the sun detect etc, and my fan still runs all the time. I'm almost to the point of replacing it.
I cleared the settings yesterday and it is turning off now. I had previously had the relay replaced thinking that was the problem. I then found the airwave setting. The intention for that is to always circulate the cool air. That has its benefits but in general running it all day isn’t what I want
I have done this... does not work... it is motion sensitive. its great waking of from sleeping 7:00 Am - 5:00 Pm to a 78 Degree apartment in the early start of summer in Tx..... Very cooooool....
I used my laptop to do the same thing, but then I went into the schedule and deleted all of the preset temps to be completely safe... Now it is fully manual.
There’s an app for Nest where you can do all this from your mobile device. You can reset the schedule, turn off auto learning among other features. Surprised to see so many complain about the learning mode... If you prefer to keep the temperature fixed...just replace it with a cheap thermostat (I’ve seen ones for $20 or less) - problem “fixed”. You could probably sell your Nest to cover the replacement cost and then some.
The Nest Sense Auto-Schedule doesn't stay off when turned off. This is why he first turned it off, then went into auto-schedule and turned that off. BUT, when he went back into the Nest Sense Auto-Schedule, it was on again.
Our Nest 3rd Generation has been nothing but a source of frustration. Here in Ontario, Canada, temperatures in my room can easily drop down to 16 Celsius during snowy nights in winter (I verified this with a thermometer). I set my Nest thermostat to maintain a constant 23 Celsius around 10pm, and it only maintains that temperature for about an hour before rolling back to its default setting of 17 Celsius for the remainder of the night/morning. I have tried turning every AI enabled learning feature off, and even disconnected it from our Wi-Fi, but to no avail. I would much rather “retro-fit” a tried and trusted Honeywell mercury bi-metallic strip thermostat in place of this product which demonstrates why IoT is an endeavour worthy of being laughed at.
Our schedules are too hectic for this product which is part of our "smart home". Please tell me Doc did this actually work?I'm tired of freezing because the Nest decides to freeze me. Oh and thank you for the video Doc, much appreciated.
Yes, taking the time to shut off the LEARN and blank out the schedules worked. It is now a MANUAL thermostat. I do use the phone app FYI. I do enjoy that part of it.
@@HowTowithDoc to be honest with you I thought that these thermostats were like those programmable thermostats with an app attached to it. What is Nest like for the summer to keep your home cool???

I have just had oil central heating fitted in the UK, I got one of these, but only does heating, what a load of rubbish, my system heats up, over heats then goes off, then all the radiators go stone cold, drawing all the heat in the room, nest customer care, well, where do i start? Product useless like the after care and customer service. I'm now having to pay someone again for the "normal" old type thermostat, what a waste of money, it's a Gimmick.. Thanks for your info fella, I'll try it.
My Nest actually increased my electric bills. The Nest computer tries to "learn" your schedule but fails to realize that there are people in the house that jack the air down way to cold when you are not home. Then, after it learns what everyone likes, it starts setting the temperatures way to cold ; resulting in high electric bills. So the answer i guess is to lock your family members out of the system so they can't change the temperature.
the energy companies will love the nest. When members in your house like a higher temperature than you ..i wake up every morning because others in the house like it 74 - it's not working out....our bills have gone up. It looks great but....
I am already looking for an old school mercury bi metal strip t stat I come home it’s 77 I wake up it’s 64 wtf I am sick of this t stat thx for the video a lot faster than talking on the phone
I solved this problem by using the steps below: Summer mode- lower the set point as low as possible then open and close windows to maintain a comfortable temperature.
My family thought if it was cold they should set it to a very high temperature to make it heat up fast but there is nothing faster than flat out so that is not helpful but worse it causes overshoot to the ridiculous temperature they set so that it got hellish warm. So to defeat this monkey-on-the-controls problem I set control points at 2 hour intervals in the schedule so that whatever changes they make will only have an impact for 2 hours at most. That seems to be working out fine for me. In other words, in the absence of a manual setting, put in enough control points, and you can force it to do whatever you want. That said, one day recently I noticed that it was getting far too hot and when I looked at the thermostat its display said simply MANUAL. I discovered it was set to a constant high temperature of 28 C (82 F). Neither I nor anyone else did that. Fiddling with the app, I got it back into normal operation. However I learned: 1. There IS a MANUAL mode, no matter what they say, however I do not know how to put it into that mode. 2. I believed it got HACKED. So after setting it back to normal operation, I turned on 2-factor authentication, and I am hoping that is the end of the problem. 3. From web searches while tyring to understand what happened, I discovered that these thermostats have a microphone. This sheds some possible light on the Chinese lady acting in an amateurish way who got into Mar A Lago recently with USB sticks etc. Her actiosn seem amateurish, which gives the Chinese state plausible deniability. But if the place uses Nest thermostats, as per the web, it takes 15 sec to upload malware onto them via their USB sockets.
It's for those that have NOT... used it that way. i.e. we bought the house with it already installed. You have to manually WIPE OUT any old schedules or it will keep running them. So it's a TWO step process.
@@HowTowithDoc - I mean that just sounds like common sense to do. I'm still confused by this "making it CLOSE to a manual thermostat" ... it can 100% be a manual thermostat.
It's a nice looking thermostat but nothing more. I'm already thinking about replacing it and I believe it cost me more money they savings the promised. My wife is working from home so thanks God every 10-15 minutes she can change temperature to 'normal'. Google want freeze us to death ! ;)
Thank you.... For a product that was created to save energy this waste a huge amount of energy by shutting off our A/C while we are gone for 4 hours and then we spend hours with AC running to take us back to where it needs to be.
ok i will try...i hate this man..like when i sleep the nest automatically cool off cuz pervious days has hotter temp...but I DONT NEED THEM TO DO IT FOR ME JESUS
I have repeatedly deleted my schedule and made sure auto schedule is off and it keeps creating a schedule. A schedule that sets heat to high, has us to hot in the winter and costs us money. Nest go to hellllllllll!
I turned mine to “NO” for auto scheduling here just like you say. A week later it was back to “YES”. No one else is touching it! Fuck this stupid product!
To think that a company can find it acceptable to not have a FULLY Manual mode is beyond ludicrous. It just shows how out of touch they are. Remarkable that they've been able to sell this many of them. Mine's coming out upstairs. The downstairs one there's enough foot traffic to keep it from thinking it knows what's best
Thanks Doc! Unfortunately Nest is just literally a piece of over engineered garbage and even after this brilliant idea the stupid machine still auto changes to 25. I wish I never bought this garbage.

Shut off the auto schedule feature give you 100 percent control. I’ve had the nest thermostat since the first week it cam out.
Shut that off, then turn off the learn, and wipe any learned schedules.
You can also just put you nest in eco mode and set you heat temp and cool temp.
I am already looking for an old school mercury bi metal strip t stat I come home it’s 77 I wake up it’s 64 wtf I am sick of this t stat thx for the video a lot faster than talking on the phone
I solved this problem by using the steps below:
Summer mode- lower the set point as low as possible then open and close windows to maintain a comfortable temperature.
No one should ever buy a nest thermostat. Absolute garbage. Thank you for this video
Thank you, thank you!!
However I learned:
I'm so confused by this video and some of the comments... I've had a Nest 2nd gen since 2014 and have used it in this 'manual mode' since day 1
It's for those that have NOT... used it that way. i.e. we bought the house with it already installed.
For a product that was created to save energy this waste a huge amount of energy by shutting off our A/C while we are gone for 4 hours and then we spend hours with AC running to take us back to where it needs to be.
ok i will try...i hate this man..like when i sleep the nest automatically cool off cuz pervious days has hotter temp...but I DONT NEED THEM TO DO IT FOR ME JESUS
it works!!! thx u i did what u said and finally i have control over the nest 😁
I have repeatedly deleted my schedule and made sure auto schedule is off and it keeps creating a schedule. A schedule that sets heat to high, has us to hot in the winter and costs us money. Nest go to hellllllllll!
Same here also another thing to do is to turn off eco mode cool and heat
That’s the grass guy !
just press the button on the receiver!
Thax man 👍
You da man
Thanks
I turned mine to “NO” for auto scheduling here just like you say. A week later it was back to “YES”. No one else is touching it! Fuck this stupid product!
To think that a company can find it acceptable to not have a FULLY Manual mode is beyond ludicrous. It just shows how out of touch they are. Remarkable that they've been able to sell this many of them. Mine's coming out upstairs. The downstairs one there's enough foot traffic to keep it from thinking it knows what's best
Nest stinks I have two and they are a huge disappointment
I Should have stuck with Honeywell but I bought the KoolAide
Much easier to use the app on your phone
My son installed this for me. I hate it but I would not tell him.
Thanks Doc! Unfortunately Nest is just literally a piece of over engineered garbage and even after this brilliant idea the stupid machine still auto changes to 25. I wish I never bought this garbage.
Going into the app - you can delete the entire schedule -
So fucking stupid!!!!!!!! I set the air to 72 and I come back and its 78 fucking degrees in the house!!!! I hate this thing!!!
Damn it, it just makes me headache.
It work
