Ignition Cylinder Drilling/Replacement 2003 Ford Focus

- Ignition would not move/stuck in off position. Removed the locking-pin by drilling a hole in the ignition cylinder to be able to turn the key. Changed the cylinder and was able to keep the same key w/o having to have it reprogrammed.
When we went through this problem, there wasn't many videos about this particular issue, so we had to share what we learned. I'm glad we could be helpful! Thank you for the feedback :-)
going through this now going to try it on the weekend...you said you had to drill about a quarter inch in? I don't wanna mess anything up...also is it just loose like that so you can grab it with the tweezers? Thanks for the help

Thank you so much for the video, I just now replaced my ignition cylinder on my 2002 Focus SVT. I purchased a kit from Ford Parts so I could use my original key. The fun part was setting the cylinder to my fit my key, I am now a locksmith.
god bless yall. ignition just got stuck tonight on my 03 focus and I tried everything else before calling it quits and looking it up. got my dads persistence so taking it into a shop is far from even the last thing i will do. excited to buy the new part and replace it! even 5 years later, you're helpin someone out. Thank you for posting this video. I own a 2003 Ford Focus Wagon replacing the ignition lock cylinder April of 2009 with an aftermark same design LockSmart brand. Here we are 6 yrs later and 2/6/15 my key got stuck in the start position with engine running and unplugging the battery did not work..had to pull fuses. So this time because of the position of the key in the lock I had to drill out the lock to remove it. Thanks for explaining where the retaining pin is located even though mine was not an OEM replaced ignition lock cylinder. This time I am going to replace with a different tumbler design which maybe your locksmith provided you.

Thanx. ur video is a lot shorter, but more informative than the others I watched. I now know what I need to remove to get the key to turn as well has what all is in the way
Huge help chuck thanks I didn't have the seventy for a new ignition till payday and I get paid biweekly so that was still a hole week out so the drilling hole n old one tweezers idea was so awesome didn't have to go with out a car for a week thanks for posting
Great video. Make sure it's in the on position to pull it out because the black clip will stop it from sliding out. Amazon sells the better tumbler Google with one you need.

My 02 Focus ignition did this and sometimes it would not go from run to lock just Acc, I always had to take the platic collar on the automatic transmission shifter and pull it up to make it be tight against the handle. Then it would lock or go to start

If yours is stuck try tapping the key in lightly with a hammer. Then you will be able to remove and replace the cylinder.

non USA models and Canadians models of the focus used a the Jaguar ignition key setup

How deep do you have to drill????
can I replace the steering column and just swap out the black thing and my key to it?
about a quarter inch if you're in the right spot.
All u had to do was turn the stirring wheel a lil bit
When you got the new switch did you have to do anything for the antitheft
What's ur take on my Son-in-law drilled for me and it started so I told him to leave it as is. What say you
after you drilled out the pin and get the car to start couldn't you just leave it without replacing it to save money. as long as you don't care what your car looks like. do you know if it will lock up in the future.
dude you're most definitely breaking the pin which means it will NEVER lock up again and yes if you don't want your car stolen replace it ASAP if not well good luck
No you don't have to replace it as for ur car getting stolen lock ur doors u still need the right chipped key for the car to start ur just removing THE LOCK PIN that guy must think u punched the ignition or something
what size allen wrench did you use?
