As an American that does watch the NFL, it's pretty crazy how normalized it is to watch so many ads in just one game. I told my overseas friend about it, and he was dumbfounded as to why we show so many ads.
Okay, take a leak during the commercials or get some food. European football doesn't have commercials, so instead all of the best teams can only be afforded by America billionaires, Chinese/Russian oligarchs, or literal fundamental Gulf monarchies who use slave labor. Those are the only teams who can afford to be competitive in Europe, and you have historic clubs like Barcelona constantly on the verge of bankruptcy. I'll take an extra hour of gametime to fit in commercials, in order to have more competitive balance that the NFL has compared to European football.
It’s important to remember that most ads are so you don’t have to sit there during timeouts/halftime/end of quarter/kickoff setup - nothing wrong with a bit of capitalism so you can take a leak while not missing anything.

Tennis has lots of breaks but nobody complains. NFL football is a mix between chess and war, so the speed of the games is a lot different. Speed of the plays are much faster than football’s tho.
I watched Super Bowl 2 times. the first time I was overwhelmed by boredom and all the advertising. I couldn't finish it the second time because the ads were so annoying and the football game was too annoying to continue watching because of all the interruptions. If anyone wants to know, American football has a thing called the "two minute warning". It's literally a rule that stops every game when there's 2 minutes left at the half for the league to place even more ads before it ends.

That amount of ads is crazy but it makes sense why it works for nfl. After every touchdown, field goal, 2 minute warning, booth review and timeout, the game gets stopped/setup and the coaches talk to their players. So nfl can easily add in ads during this time. And during 30 second timeouts majority of the time your screen will be split in half with an ad and the coaches talking. While in football (soccer) there is no break to the game besides half time. Having an ad in the middle of the game can be catastrophic to the viewers at home.

If anyone wants to know, American football has a thing called the "two minute warning". It's literally a rule that stops every game when there's 2 minutes left at the half for the league to place even more ads before it ends.

And during 30 second timeouts majority of the time your screen will be split in half with an ad and the coaches talking. While in football (soccer) there is no break to the game besides half time. Having an ad in the middle of the game can be catastrophic to the viewers at home.
