We gained another two ships in PTU this week ahead of IAE coming later this month
and I was heading out to take a look at one of them, the Crusader Starter ship the Intrepid, and its rather unusual asymetrical design

I love the Medipin, though the lack of a weapon rack and jump seats is a bit weird, pretty standard features in medivac ships/ground vehicles. 1-2 folding seats would make sense to me.
Yeah, this version seems like it should've been treated as multicrew, and given the tiny C8R and the Nurses each have 1 jump seat, the murdle should've had 3 or 4, with weapon racks.
As is, it's not clear what the design goal even was. You'd think an armored ambulance would be setup for combat medics, but without weapon racks it's murky.
I'm surprised how they dropped the ball on the Medipin when they did so well the medical Pisces. No jumpseat, no weapon racks and no bed. The free sustenance is something they can add before LIVE but the other stuff requires a redesign of the interior.
The intrepid is a weird ship. I dunno what to think of it.
Yeah i think design wise people will either love it or hate it :D it seemed to perform quite well but i am not sure i'd pick it over some of the other starters though
I enjoy the verity. For what it is I think it fits perfectly. Possibly a single size 4 gun would have brought it to match the Avenger.
Hopefully some future balancing may result in a weapon size change in the future

Its an interesting ship, but as a Crusader Industries enjoyer, i will stay with my Nomad for now. The Medic Turtle will be interesting to play with, really looking forward to that and the Polaris on LIVE. Good Video, really enjoyed it ^^
I'd genuinely consider the Intrepid as my starter, as I adore the interior Star Wars aesthetic of Crusader Industries and asymmetry. However the lack of a general cargo area capable of storing small vehicles makes me stick to the Cutter.
It looks a little funny like a toy haha very plastic and cheap too which is suitable for a starter, it kind of strikes me as a civilian NPC ship which is cool!
But I just feel like the Cutter is the true, rust bucket civilian starter ship!
Good reveiw and test flight. The single size 3 is quite weak but I would not rule out the possibility of CIG "addressing" this somewhere down the line. They've done this sort of thing before when the Redeemer concept sale went live.
I just found out about the Intrepid reveal and I'm the person who loves it I guess... it's just so awkward and cozy
The intrepid is odd how ever you look at it the gun mount clearly was made to hold 2 guns or a much larger gun. The Cargo bay could clearly hold 8 SCU on both sides if you was to just raise the landing gear since how much wasted space is used for the sealed cargo pods.
I personally like the Intrepid the only thing i would like to see is an upgun into a bespoke size 3 or change it to size 4. I do see the though process introducing a ship with close to similar dps with unic loadout with a range and eventual armor piercing advantage over the others around it's class.
the bed screen says its a Ter2 med bed . n not ter3 like the other med ships, its good idea to check what the ter of the med bed is when looking at ship that have them.
they should of made the left side tapper more towards the cockpit. that way it had like a shallow angle the extended all the way to the cockpit itself. kind of like how the corsair does it. then add 3 more guns andI have them follow that angle forwards in a line.
I was really hopeful for the Medipin but it lacks many (albeit small) features: A Jump Seat for your paramedic, a weapons rack and a toilet (people need to pee)
I love that they are doing more asymmetric ships, I just wish it has a niche it was good at. It’s kind of generally crap at everything.
Use a repeater, for example an Attrition or NDB, and it is quite capable for a starter.
Honestly it is easy to fix the ship main issue… buff the weapons capacititor 3times the actual size so you can fire 45shots instead of 15 and suddenly it’s become an ok starter ship.
What tier is the bed in the medical terrapin ? The lack of seat for a medic is weird as well, there should be plenty of room in the hull... And of course "weapon" racks for multitools and medical tools at least would make a lot of sense to have. C8R seems much better in all but armor.
Intrepid needs a bespoke gun , not a massive blaster like the ION, but something different like maybe a faster shooting size 2 or 3 , to bring it's firepower in line with the other starter ships . perhaps a spinning Gatling type laser repeater would be good , spraying tons of inaccurate fire lol ... I want to like this ship as I like Crusader ships and would like to add it to the fleet , but , that pea shooting is not doing it for me : ( as for the MediPin , tiz nice but the Cutty Red seems more rounded . nice though .
So much about this just doesn't work for me.
1) The hull being designed around something as small as a single S3 gun
2) Two separate single line cargo holds, not allowing for wider crates nor vehicles.
3) An engineering terminal on a single seater starter
4) Engines look too large of its size
5) ... and so on.
Intrepid is a crusader ship from wish. It's so out of place because all other crusader designs are gorgeous.
I dont get all the hate. It''s a starter ship, not made to fight, not made to be a cargo hauler. It's a great ship to dip into the different possibilities with a nice interior. It's not like the Cutter has better defences or anything. We dont even know the price yet
Hm it is a interesting ship, would definetly buy a skin to it the whiteblue isnt looking good on it.
Would have expected a size 4 gun or at least a larger kapazitator but ok it isnt a fighter so ok.
I would expect it around the price of 65 € with gamepackage ... it seems to fit between the titan and the aurora
The intrepid should go back in the owen for a few months (exterior design/guns). Look at the Spirit and then at this thing. 😔
And the medical terrapin?? Once life support comes online, the medical facility will become a glorified airlock (compared with medical pisces).
They feel like 2 rushed ships done by a less experienced team.
I am probably in the minority here. I like the look of this ship. My only problem here is the S3 gun it is too small and for that reason it has to be 45-50 for me to consider upgrading too. My Arora has more firepower and 2 shields, and it has to be better in every way and the addition of 5scu is just not good enough.

The Intrepid is a starter ship. Not for me. Saw it was only slightly bigger than the Avenger Titan, but ... well. Viewed from the top-down it's hideous. The asymmetry is there just to be there. The cargo space is too little. Should be 16 SCU or something. The gun should be size 4 at least. Cockpit view is great, though.
This ship is crying for a bespoke gun like a smaller version of what the ion has or at the very least a size 4.

Just noticed that myself, seen the front go down and was "wait, that's not a bubble type shield on a starter?"
I don't think it does i think thats just a user interface bug
afaik shield configuration is no longer tied to shield generator sizes.
The intrepid would be better with a lil bigger gun or another one of size 3 or smaller and or more missiles. To me it looks like an aeries that took steroids and its body got big but its "pewpew" got small

Yeah the Intrepid is the ugly duckling of the entire Crusader line and it should have been a size 4 gun. 1 size 3 is worse than a 300 series lol
What turns me off on the Medical Terrapin, is the lack of seats. There's no extra seat for a 2nd player, patient and/or "doctor/nurse", even the C8R and Nursa has that.
Plus as you mentioned, no storage for tools such as tractor beams and medical tools.
Very, very strange design choices on these two...
A size 4 is still not enough compared to the Titans Size 4 and 2 size 3's. Perhaps a size 5, or at least 2 size 3's with a much larger capacitor. The ship is also much larger than the Titan or Origin 300 series. Few more extra missiles would also be handy. But as it stands, I feel it would be a flop.

Titan no longer seems to count as a "true" starter (it's priced a fair bit higher) and by lore it as a combat patrol ship. Intrepid has much nicer creature comforts as well. But I agree, S4 with larger caps would make sense. I need to put intrepid and nomad side by side to compare.
I think it needs a S5. That combined with its speed and flying would give it the niche of starter bounty ship. Not being able to take a vehicle for bunkers is a drawback though.
@@Starach I mean, you can use one of the cargo grids for a Pulse, supposedly it fits nicely.
THANK YOU for the very unbiased look at the intrepid. Everyone seems to be losing their shit about it, but I think it's ok? Sure, it could use a 1 size turret increase, but at the same time, it's a shuttle, a comfortable campervan that's meant for creature comfort, and looks like a fun daily driver. Not every ship has to be for combat!
The Intrepid is soooo ugly!! But the inside is so well designed, that it is starting to grow on me - might even buy it ^^
i think its an ugly ship...i normally go by the design and looks of the ship...not the combat power...which pins me to a easy target for griefers or pirates
