    Should the plate be metal or composite material would be fine ? Screws aren’t going to rip out without some type of metal or fiberglass insole ? I would only use them for rhythm skating .

      You can get a small L shaped screw driver but i use a philips head drill bit and vice grips or channel locks. Stick it in the shoe and tighten the bolt from the bottom of the plate. I think i show it in the video.

    I’ve remounted plenty of skate boots with leather soles before. Been studying your videos and trying to determine whether I should build a fiberglass insole or not. I see you didn’t with this particular set, but you did for another. What is your criteria in making this determination? Also, I’ve seen spacers used to alleviate bolt pressure to the plate in other videos. My question may be premature as I’ve not seen the shoe I plan on customizing yet, but they are old school Muffy Saddle Shoes. I guess it all depends on how robust the sole is. I don’t plan skating aggressively in them, just smooth two-step session skating. Your advice is appreciated!

    • @bonacheeta
      @bonacheeta 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its definitely suggested to use a stiffening insole in a vans build. Fiberglass or pre-made aluminum insoles would work

    • @GenXrCist669
      @GenXrCist669 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bonacheeta I’m not mounting Vans, but a saddle shoe. The fiberglass seems easy enough to make, so I’ll do it anyway. On his Stacy Adams, I didn’t see the additional insole. Likely leather soles. I have a feeling that the saddle shoes will be rubber soled, but saddle shoes tend to be a very stiff shoe. Hoping it’ll be like a Vanilla skate boot. We shall see!

    • @bonacheeta
      @bonacheeta 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GenXrCist669 oh that should work! I meant for the vans and any other floppy rubber sole sneaker build would need an insole. I did cowboy boots with a sewn hard sole without using an insole and they seem pretty stable.

    • @freeflydenny
      @freeflydenny  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The mounting cups should hold up but the problem is you will feel the plate on the bottom of your foot if you land hard enough. I would recommend reinforcing it for anything other than rink skating. Use the fiberglass in the other video I posted. Easy to make , comfortable and lightweight.

      It depends on your weight and where you are skating. If you are outdoor skating on ramps and stuff you will definitely need the insert. Otherwise you will bruise your feet. If you rink skate like me you don't need the insert. Im 165 lbs and totally fine without one on any shoes. If you rink skate and are over 200lbs you will probably need the insert as well.

If you are using a regular tennis shoe for the rink you dont need one depending on how much you weigh. Im 170 and dont need one. if you are skating outdoors and jumping around you would need to put one in.
      Its more of a comfort thing so the bottom of your foot isn't feeling the plate.

    Did you make these without any reinforcement inside? I watched your video where you made fiberglass for added support and am curious if that’s a must or optional. Looking to make some mostly for cruising around, but perhaps a ramp at some point.

      @freeflydenny  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You don't need the insert if you are just rink skating. If you are jumping around outdoors I would put one in. You will feel that plate on your foot pretty good if you land hard enough. You can always make them without and add it later if needed though

      It's most likely the trucks or truck. They could be too tight. Loosen the kingpin which is the center bolt and put your weight in the opposite direction. Do 1/4 turn and test it. Repeat until it's gone. I keep my trucks very loose, almost falling off. Yours sound too stiff and tight

      Thanks brotha! Dont waste your time and money, go straight to fibers if you want to slide! you will be fine if you take it slow. Trust me.
