Ironically I think he would indeed be happier in his memory erased state for he can be Smart, Fabulous, and believe it to be real without knowledge that he is fake.
There is a slight mistake in your explanation: His sisters weren't squibs, because Gilderoys parents were muggles. Someone can only be a squib if at least one of his/her parents is a wizard or witch. His sisters were 'just' muggles, while he was a muggleborn wizard.
I can completely understand why people hate Lockheart.... but I love him. He's honestly such an interesting character to me, despite all of his flaws and lies.
Think about this: Dumbledore has willingly ruined the educational process for a year just to guide Harry not to enjoy his celebrity status. There was no other reason to invite Lockhart, a useless teacher.
It was a great lesson for Harry to not get too full of himself w/ his popularity and celebrity status. He still had to prove himself so he wouldn't look like a fool.
Obviously you haven’t read the chamber of secrets. If you did and understood it, the reason he invited him should be abundantly clear. He taught Harry in a single year something that Dumbledore himself took 30 years to learn. Fame and power for the sake of it is not worth the cost. Something Dumbledore lost a sister to learn. Dumbledores want for power was his Achilles heal. Harry’s and Rons was Fame and Glory.
We know Prof. Lockheart is particularly gifted with memory charms. Now I wonder if Prof Lockheart would have been able to extract the Horcrux memory from Professor Slughorn, as Dumbledore recalls saying he himself is not able to get that information from Slughorn as he was a formidable wizard. Prof Lockheart vs. Prof. Slughorn in the memory charm arena...thoughts anyone?
When you think about it, students taking the DADA OWLs or NEWTS probably got 'above expectations' or 'outstanding' because all they had to do was memorise shit about Lockhart. Granted it isn't very useful knowledge but it looks good on their educational history.
Well if the females didn't want the D so bad, all would be fine. Dumbledore is gay himself and was not attracted to Gilderoy. Dumbledore is always right.
D D lmao at you making up and distorting definitions There physical, sexual, emotional, verbal and psychological abuse. And even your phrasing makes it sound like “he was JUST a bully”. What do you think it is that bullies do exactly..?
I thought Hermione pretended to like Lockhart because she wanted to be normal or something. I think I read that fact on an article or saw it in a TH-cam video
I have a suggestion of a video, its about why some dead people like Moaning Myrtle and Nearly Headless Nick turn to ghosts but other people like Dumbledore and Lily and James Potter do not.
Ballerz 101 they just simply decided not to, people who become ghost are usually petty or cling on too much for their own good but like nearly headless Nick end up regretting it.
I never would have chosen Kenneth Branagh for Lockhart if I was casting "Chamber of Secrets", but the problem is, he made the role so memorable that I can't imagine anyone else playing "the 5 time winner of Witch Weekly's Most charming Smile award". I remember reading Lockhart's blurb on Pottermore and being intrigued and appalled by his actions during his Hogwarts days. Dumbledore was right in his assessment of Gilderoy being a great wizard with lots of potential, but he was not willing to put in the work to maintain a wider range of spells that would truly make him great. Especially with copyright infringement being drilled into my brain during my high school and college years, I am even more incensed that Lockhart stole the credit of other wizards for himself and passed it off as his own work. Even at seven years old, i.e. when my mum read "Chamber of Secrets" to me for the first time, I considered him being the victim of his own memory charm as an ironic and fitting way to go out.
I hated in the book when Lockhart forced Harry to walk with him and Lockhart was telling Harry that bringing down the greatest dark wizard was nothing and that winning the best smile award was so much better. He’s so self centered but he really annoyed me.
I actually feel sorry for him how his Family doesn’t visit him. It must be so sad seeing other people’s family visiting them and no one coming to see him
This man is the living definition of *insecure* if he spent half the energy he put into stealing others accomplishments trying to actually do them himself he might have been really made something respectable of himself.
Dumbledore sacrificing a year of students learning a much needed lesson, just to make a point. And no, they didn't even learn what not to do from watching Lockhart. Other than don't use a broken wand on someone, but they learned that earlier when Ron failed to hex Malfoy. Nice job Dumbledore
flugsven Dumbledore could've found someone. Even though he correctly thinks that the job is cursed, he couldn't picked someone that they couldn't learned from for a year like he did with Lupin
***** video idea ***** When someone is hit with the killing curse it leaves no mark on the body. The final battle between Voldemort and Harry in the deathly hallows part 2 voldy fires the killing curse at Harry but is met with a spell by Harry. Harry’s spell soon over takes voldy and causes voldy’s killing curse to rebound which ultimately causes his death. The question is why did, when hit with the killing curse, his body turn into confetti instead of just becoming a corpse like any other person that feel victim to Avada kadrava?
Stone Faughn it's not canon it just happens in the movies to make it look cooler like with the death of bellatrix both of their bodies were not destroyed in the books
Stone Faughn. That was just movie "magic,'' but I actually liked that ending for Voldemort better though. There is no body, nor remains, or even burial location for future peoples to gather around. Otherwise, adherents or worshipping fenatics would have a rallying point.
Could you do a video where it explains how wizards travel abroad? I know they don't apparate because Newt had to take a boat to America, and I wondering how Irish students got to Hogwarts. The Durmstrang students and Beauxbatons took their flying carriage and ship, is there any more info?
Thank you for making a video about Gilderoy Lockhart! I love him. He is such a hilarious character, although I'm certain he doesn't want to come off that way. But I love how you slip in hilarious details in a serious report - like hiw students were not impressed with his "naturally wavy hair" xD Good one!
If he graduated from Hogwarts in 1982 (at age 18, judging by the DOB given ), that would make him 28 in 1992 and 29 when he lost his memories at the end of the school year in 1993. Kind of messed up if you think about it that he had to live decades in that state.
Excellent vid, HPF. I just felt micro-bad when he lost his memories (Well, he was trying to wipe the boys' memories, like what he did before to the last wizards and witches).
Shadow Browne sorry if it came across as if I was yelling at you, I just hate it when people say that Ravenclaw is a stuck up house, i can tell that you don’t think that.
As a Ravenpuff, I too am embarrassed that such an ambitious, but very lazy, wizard would come from my main house. And as for Dumbledore hiring him to expose his crimes of memory blasting the TRUE doers of Lockhart's great deeds... even when I was seven years old (i.e. how old I was when my mum read "Chamber of Secrets" to me for the first time), I thought Lockhart being defeated by his own memory charm was an oddly fitting way to go out.
Amazing video. Also in one book, I don’t remember which one though, Molly Weasley still uses a Lockart book to know the proper way to get rid of gnomes or something like that.
I always wondered why he was chosen to be the DAtDA professor that year, and honestly, I think Dumbledore's plan was great. It may not have worked out quite as he planned, but it did work. When Lockhart said to ask Snape for a love potion, Harry described his reaction as ''he looked like the first person to ask him for a love potion, would be force-fed poison'' 😂😂😂😂😂😃😂😂
Dean please make a long video on the life on the Patil sisters. There magical ability and what spells they used in the battle of Hogwarts and how they fought during the battle. :)
One Piece true, I have nothing against ravenclaws ( I'm a Slytherin) they are VERY smart people, but Lockhart wasn't very brave at all. Again I have nothing against ravenclaws. My best friend is one and she would most definitely agree with my accusation! 🐍💚🦅💙💚💙💚💙💚💙💚💙💚💙💚💙💚 also my highbreed house is Slytherclaw ☺
I kind of wish Harry Potter Hogwarts mystery is followed a character in Phil's year rather than Charlie since bill would have been a first-year when Lockhart was the seventh year and it would have been fun to meet student Lockhart
There's a few hints in the books. Off the top of my head: 1) Dudley breaks his (brand new? I can't remember, it's been a while since I read the books) Play Station in one of the books (I think Chamber of Secrets). 2. When Harry and Ron are invited to Nearly Headless Nick's 500th Deathday party, his date of death is given as 1492, meaning that party occured in 1992.
the videos! I'm blind and write Intergalactic Culinary thrillers. New video ideas: What if there was a witch or wizzard with the reverse views of Slitherin? How about a video about Saint Mungos? How about a video on places and events in the wizzarding world? Is prejudice against muggles shown with signs on buildings or wand checks? How about a video on the history of Hogwarts? How about a series of videos about the ministry and its departments.

I thought it would be funny to put in his 'Most charming smile' award in his introduction lol
Harry Potter Folklore what if Ron Weasley was the chosen one?
Harry Potter Folklore good one loved it
If he was here he would be Crying and giving out this video to Harry for free
good idea
Harry Potter Folklore Have you watched Voldemort origin of the heir
Gilderoy Lockhart was one of the smartest characters in Harry Potter. The problem was that he got extremely lazy and became a terrible wizard.
The life of Gilderoy lockheart in four words: Smart, Fabulous but fake
Lisa Martens Soo true
That is correct
Lisa Martens very very true
Ironically I think he would indeed be happier in his memory erased state for he can be Smart, Fabulous, and believe it to be real without knowledge that he is fake.
LordPanda31 he was one of the smartest of his class actually, and he's a ravenclaw so that says something
There is a slight mistake in your explanation: His sisters weren't squibs, because Gilderoys parents were muggles. Someone can only be a squib if at least one of his/her parents is a wizard or witch. His sisters were 'just' muggles, while he was a muggleborn wizard.
Draco Lucius Malfoy
Thanks, I didn't know that. I was confused because HP Folklore said that Gilderoy was a muggleborn.
He gives new definition to the phrase "Ignorance is bliss".
Only to the ignorant. The ignorance of someone drives everybody else crazy.
Yeah, I would never have guessed there was so much information on Lockhart, but I still don't like him lol....good video as always though
Lol
borninsapphaire2005 €¥§|~…!?965432
Z
"Celebrity is as celebrity does"
"Remember that"
Last sentence to describe Lockheart not that good at knowing that you can't do magic with a taped up wand. Very smart move Lockheart
Lockhart*
It is possible that he might not have noticed that the wand was broken
Maybe you could do a video about Katie Bell? She is my favorite character, but she is very forgotten :(
This is so good I love it 😍I'm obsessed make more
harrypotter.wikia.com
the article on Lockhart is pretty much this video word for word...
I can completely understand why people hate Lockheart.... but I love him. He's honestly such an interesting character to me, despite all of his flaws and lies.
Same here! I adore the complexity of his character.
The "best smile award" so real
The only real thing he achieved
Think about this: Dumbledore has willingly ruined the educational process for a year just to guide Harry not to enjoy his celebrity status. There was no other reason to invite Lockhart, a useless teacher.
KrivitskyM well it was to save the world from Voldemort
KrivitskyM Don't insult Albus Dumbledore in front of me **points umbrella**
It was a great lesson for Harry to not get too full of himself w/ his popularity and celebrity status. He still had to prove himself so he wouldn't look like a fool.
I thought Albus Dumbledore wanted to expose Lockhart for what he was by hiring Lockhart as well..
Love the "Life of..." series Dean, keep up the good work! (Excited for the Draco video)
Archie McMorran he already uploaded life of Draco Malfoy
Aodhan McConnell When I wrote that, he hadn’t uploaded it yet 😂
Just discovered this channel, very interesting!
I agree with you(except I didn’t find the channel by finding this). :3 ;D
Hi dean, I wondered if you could talk about the connection between Harry and voldemorts wands and how the ghosts appeared in the goblet of fire?
Oh my god, I was waiting for this forever! Thank you hp folklore!!
Did you know that, from the movies, his wand is the longest? Just a fun fact
Great vid!!!
Blirobo or he says it is......
Blirobo .
So that's why his smile was always so cheeky!
No hagrids was
If you think wand as uh...sonething else and then you read the " at least he thinks it is " this gets real funny
You know what they say about wizards with long wands. They are shitty wizards.
can you please do a video on "if Sirius black was in slytherin" i don't know if you take request but i've been wondering this for awhile now
It’s a bit sad that he never recovered from his spell backfire, it would have been interesting at the least to see how he changed as person.
Yeah So True
It’s sad that technically he was a better DADA professor than Umbridge, lol.
So Dumbledore intentionally hired a bad teacher and screwed over the students taking over the DADA OWLs and NEWTs?
When you think about it, students taking the DADA OWLs or NEWTS probably got 'above expectations' or 'outstanding' because all they had to do was memorise shit about Lockhart. Granted it isn't very useful knowledge but it looks good on their educational history.
Well if the females didn't want the D so bad, all would be fine. Dumbledore is gay himself and was not attracted to Gilderoy.
Dumbledore is always right.
D D ever heard of verbal abuse? NEVILLE'S WORST FEAR WAS SNAPE!!
Don't forget, Lockhart was the only one for the job.
D D lmao at you making up and distorting definitions
There physical, sexual, emotional, verbal and psychological abuse.
And even your phrasing makes it sound like “he was JUST a bully”. What do you think it is that bullies do exactly..?
i hate how they left the st mungos scene out of the movies it would've been a great scene and not that hard to make
I thought Hermione pretended to like Lockhart because she wanted to be normal or something. I think I read that fact on an article or saw it in a TH-cam video
Nah. She was like a typical fangirl around him and only liked him because she fancied him.
Can you do the life of Luna Lovegood?
International RTG he already did
International RTG actually he just did facts but movieflame did luna lovegood life
International RTG he already did it duh ^
It's hilarious that when casting the role in the movie, they wanted Hugh Grant, originally. The stuttering and stammering would've been adorable.
I was so pumped when I saw this I dropped everything.
I have a suggestion of a video, its about why some dead people like Moaning Myrtle and Nearly Headless Nick turn to ghosts but other people like Dumbledore and Lily and James Potter do not.
Ballerz 101 I agree I wonder why
Ballerz 101 they just simply decided not to, people who become ghost are usually petty or cling on too much for their own good but like nearly headless Nick end up regretting it.
Mr. Orange ghost are people who had “unfinished business “

I did a project on you in school
trick shot masters what was the topic?
Somebody you look up too
I’d love to see the project!
Sure, I made it on a google slides
I did this comment on my tablet and I did the presentation on my computer so the name might be different
So excited for this thank you!
This was amazing and you perfectly captured his arrogance
how did Fred and George know how to use the Marauders Map?
StefanFortig YES
It probably asked them, "Are you up to no good?" It could write out it's own cheeky thoughts about people.
This man is the living definition of *insecure* if he spent half the energy he put into stealing others accomplishments trying to actually do them himself he might have been really made something respectable of himself.

flugsven Dumbledore could've found someone. Even though he correctly thinks that the job is cursed, he couldn't picked someone that they couldn't learned from for a year like he did with Lupin
Chiko was here meanwhile we don’t even get that for a day
Ron: I haven't learned anything from Lockhart except not to set pixies loose.
OmL please. This is hilarious! Amazing video. As always. I loved the way Snape acted towards Lockhart.

Read the damn book my dude

Ps. Congrats on reaching almost 200k subscribers! Well done! You deserve it!
I think the only thing that Harry and Draco can agree on is that Lockhart was THE WORST Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher in Hogwarts history
Can you do what Nevile parents were not to tured to insanity how would Nevile be like would he be more skilled and ambitious or the same?
Hell yeah bruv! Great video!
Love these videos 💛💛💛
Great video
Great video man☺️ wish you all the best
Can you do the life of Aberforth Dumbledore?
Gabby's Guitar I second that! ☺👍🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
That'd be great 👌👏
Been done now xx
I honestly love him! He’s so hilarious and narcissistic 😂😂😂
Never knew about his youth and what he done at school
Your voice is so relaxing, Keep up the great videos!
I’ve been waiting for this all week ❤️❤️❤️
He was four years younger than James? its amazing how young all these characters were yet how old all the actors were...
If he graduated from Hogwarts in 1982 (at age 18, judging by the DOB given ), that would make him 28 in 1992 and 29 when he lost his memories at the end of the school year in 1993.
Kind of messed up if you think about it that he had to live decades in that state.
Great video. I particularly liked the graphics of the characters ☺
The only thing that is bigger than the universe, is Lockhart's ego
I adore your channel, I love all the Potter Folklore videos you make.
He's basically Dumbledore but lied about everything.
I LOVE UR VIDS DEAN! Its so detailed u deserve more subs than 190,000!
Excellent vid, HPF. I just felt micro-bad when he lost his memories (Well, he was trying to wipe the boys' memories, like what he did before to the last wizards and witches).
As a Ravenclaw, I would like to publicly apologize for Gilderoy Lockhart. We are sorry.
Jill W yes we are, he is a disgrace to our house.
I’m sorry but no WAY in hell did Ravenclaw make Lockhart that way! Luna! She’s SO LITTLE LIKE LOCKHART!!!!
As a Slytherin, Good Night
I like to think that Lockhart’s Squib sisters are like Cinderella’s evil step-sisters.
Why is Remus Lupin in the group photo? He wasn't a teacher when Lockhart was there!
Can you do the life of Quirinus Quirrell??
Amazing video.
Also in one book, I don’t remember which one though, Molly Weasley still uses a Lockart book to know the proper way to get rid of gnomes or something like that.
"there is plenty to learn from a bad teacher, what not to do and how not to be" so true =)
Great video as always.
Still I can't help feeling sorry for Lockhart, despite what he intended to do.
Imagine if he and HERMIONIE were in the same class... he would just give up every single lesson
Anyone feel bad for Professor Lockhart now?
Sure, Lockhart was a phony, but at least in my opinion (and I'm sure in a lot of other peoples' opinions), he was memorable and likable.
Thank you for this Dean 😊
I always wondered why he was chosen to be the DAtDA professor that year, and honestly, I think Dumbledore's plan was great. It may not have worked out quite as he planned, but it did work. I'm a Ravenclaw and I always cringe when I'm reminded that he was also a Ravenclaw. As always though, a great video! I definitely look forward to all of them!
He is so pathetic I can't even hate him.
Love the fact that sad music is playing in the background ... a truly pitiful character ^^
Yes another amazing video
Lockhart was a Stan of himself!
Great video Dean! Keep up the great content!
Where can we find that art picture of Harry Potter at 5:55 in the video I really like how its looks thank you so much love your videos by the way.
thank you so much
I think I would rather be locked in a room with Lockheart than with Umbridge.
I hate Lockhart! He is a bloody coward!😬 good video though!!!😊😄😁
Anna Phoenix As a Ravenclaw I take offense, he may be a coward but he's a smart coward.
Anna Phoenix Ravenclaws are smart. Slytherin is Ambitious. Gryffindor is Brave. Hufflepuff is kind and nice.
One Piece most definitely!😁😁😁😁💙💚❤💛
Anna Phoenix I can't wait for Fantastic Beasts 2.
I love your videos :3
Brilliant! Keep up the good work! 😃
He dosnt need his memory back what a nut
True
Well, he is happier that way.
I like how the whole channel is reading from the HP wikia and/or to background music, and still he has more than 100.000 subscribers...
HELLO HI YES! EARLY! IVE BEEN SO EXCITED FOR THIS!
I live in Stockton on tees
I kind of wish Harry Potter Hogwarts mystery is followed a character in Phil's year rather than Charlie since bill would have been a first-year when Lockhart was the seventh year and it would have been fun to meet student Lockhart
This channel is amazing I'm subbing
I AM ACTUALLY NOT SLEEPING!!! YESSSSSSSS! NOT ABSOLUTELY LATE!
I didn’t know Harry Potter was based in the 90’s
There's a few hints in the books. Off the top of my head:
1) Dudley breaks his (brand new? I can't remember, it's been a while since I read the books) Play Station in one of the books (I think Chamber of Secrets).
2. When Harry and Ron are invited to Nearly Headless Nick's 500th Deathday party, his date of death is given as 1492, meaning that party occured in 1992.
U forgot to say that he starts writing a new book ,,Who i am?”

Could you do a video on where soul goes when taken by a dementor?
Millie Grace I think they go inside of it.
