Bearing in mind that London is (currently) one of the only places in the country where local authority has the power to issue fines (rather than the police having to do so) for this type of driving offence, it baffled me that this corner doesn't have a traffic enforcement camera there.

    • @cockpiss9260

@@jsl4228 It's incredible the number and variety of fines London councils hit motorists with. Drive? Fine. Park? Fine. Turn right? Fine. Don't turn right? Fine.
I'll occasionally look at the forums on pepipoo and it would put me off ever driving in London. The councils are predatory towards motorists.

Hi, I think there's several things going on with these videos. Firstly, I would imagine many of us are annoyed at the poor standards of some drivers and would like to see them punished. Secondly, the sense of self-entitlement apparent in the wrongdoers or that they claim they are not causing a problem (though instinct tells me they would be delighted to see others punished for the same poor driving). Lastly, the calm way Mikey deals with a confrontational issue, raising awareness and hopefully changing people's behaviour.

I can’t believe the absurdity of that man arguing with you Mickey. There is clear visible evidence the driver is in the wrong and yet he still argues AGAINST you. clearly a no-brainer!
it is clear as day that it is a dangerous action to take the wrong side of the road to spare yourself less than a minute of travelling time. the ambulance at the end of this clip demonstrates it very clearly as does the number of accidents happening at that peticular corner.

Why didn’t you stop the two cyclists who rode through on the wrong side of the road? Why is it acceptable for them to break the law but not a van driver?

    • @CyclingMikey
      @CyclingMikey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, good comment and of course I have concerns - it's wrong, and they shouldn't do it. There are several reasons why I don't deal with them:
      1) By far the most danger comes from the car drivers doing this, not only because of their size and mass, but also because of the speed and carelessness which many drivers go through here. In contrast most motorcyclists and cyclists are much more careful when doing this. Two wheelers have skin in the game, drivers do not.
      2) I have limited spare time, and I'm not going to spend all of it doing this. That means I'll focus on the most dangerous, being the drivers. This is fairness. It's also my choice.
      3) I don't feel able to stop cyclists or motorcyclists doing this as if they fell off because of me stopping them I'd be on very dodgy moral and legal grounds.
      4) Whilst I can report the motorcyclists who do this, I tend only to report the few who do it dangerously. I obviously can't report the cyclists, so all I do is occasionally scold them from the corner.
      5) The Royal Parks police do much the same - rarely stopping cyclists and motorcyclists, and often stopping the drivers when they stake out this junction. That's a good sense check that I'm doing the right thing.
      6) If you want to come down and stop cyclists, feel free to do so. I'll happily film and support you.
      7) It's classic whataboutery to complain about a different thing when I'm dealing with drivers. The focus of this video is the driver.

I've commented something similar before but I just don't get how you can possibly think this is an ok "move" to make. So you sit in traffic and you know you are going right. And then you think, aaah, I can just go around this pedestrian crossing in the wrong direction and skip the waiting and you think there is nothing wrong with that at all. And for saving max 1-2 minutes..

What has Argos got to say about its drivers?? This is good advert for Argos ".. Not only do we go back on our promises we break road regulations too to get to you quicker!!
But what amazes me is when they reverse slightly they are able to quickly get back in the normal queue, usually gaining 12 cars spaces from where they left the queue!

Is there not a big no entry sign facing the left hand lane traffic and a painted floor sign saying no entry as they clearly don’t see the danger they are posing, the amount still doing it. Needs to be better signage but again I haven’t seen the road layout so only what I can see on video. Mike your doing a sterling job, and if you’ve saved one life, which you undoubtedly have, then you are a true star. I see so many on their phones when I’m driving still oblivious of their actions. Hey Mikey, it's me again. What if you have mounted your phone to use as a sat nav and during driving :
    a) only look at it occassionally but not touch it
    b) occassionally tap on the phone for a sat-nav reason
    c) at some point grab the phone and put it in your pocket
Which of the above would result in an FPN?

Cyclists are “ naughty “ driver gets reported🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @CyclingMikey
      @CyclingMikey  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

They're a whole lot less dangerous is why. Otherwise, good comment and of course I have concerns - it's wrong, and they shouldn't do it.

Superb yet again Mikey. And I loved the way you said "Naughty naughty" to those cyclists at the begining. Just something about your accent. Incidentally, what was going on with that dark blue Prius on the wrong side almost past the junction? It seems the driver had some change of mind and decided to turn right after all but how did they get in that position in the first place?
You'd think anyone driving a fully livered company van wouldn't try to pull off such a stunt, especially for a major national company.
It's interesting to note that almost every driver you've filmed there has more or less the same hand gestures: "What's the matter? I just want to turn right over there" and "What the heck! Why are you stopping me?" raising of both hands and shoulder shrug. People can be such sheep.
Not sure why Sean Connery's twin objected to your efforts of keeping everyone safe but there we go.
Oh and what were you doing in the road, after all.."You don't pay road tax!" 🙂 Just yanking your chain there Mikey and yes I know, it's not road tax but VED. Totally all in good humour. Stay safe there Mikey!

@@CyclingMikey I agree they are more dangerous, however all should face the same punishment. The real, or should I say obvious reason you don’t report them, is because you can’t track them down as they are not registered. Personally I feel all bikes over a certain size, or those ridden in large towns and cities should be registered. What do you think?
