Loved this interview! So many things I'd love to comment on or ask questions about, including the security screening process and the church. However, I most loved Adam's description of how his trauma memories are "painted" in his mind. I had a therapist tell me I should copy write my description of my memories after I'd had my first EMDR session. None of the visual memories that came up during the session were new to me. In fact, I'd often pulled those memories up throughout childhood reflections with ease. What the EMDR session did was essentially made it feel like I was plugging the audio cable back in to a video that had been playing in the background for years. Instead of watching the memory from a third person perspective, "plugging in the audio cable" aka emotions forced me to relive those memories as I felt them as that child in the moment. The session also essentially mind mapped for me all the seemingly isolated memories throughout my life that unknowingly established my belief system around the prompt I was working through. Our minds are such endlessly fascinating places. I wish I had a specialty in the areas of the topics you all discuss, because I could see myself getting along very well you and with the group of people you bring on your platforms. Thank you for making this content!
54:14 what yall are talking about, my theory is that simply speaking this pattern is the one outlined by Plato in his republic. We have a society of leaders who lie, groups of people who get different information based on the leaders goals, and real artistic/spiritual expression is banned. And that we were all taught that our society was molded on the Republic but by the time we were old enough to read it we went "oh that's insane" without looking at ourselves
I was born in Hollywood and raised in LA. Interesting discussion about parallels between the film industry and cults. I’ve always felt a simultaneous attraction and repulsion to the entertainment industry, sometimes work on the periphery of the industry and it’s really troubling to see how people are so seduced by it. Celebrity culture is super toxic.
This was amazing to listen to. Ive had the same thoughts about santa claus and I thought Gordon Hinckley ( who i love dearly) probably thought this could be bull but im going to do the best i can. I feel validated! Thank you Mark ✌️
Interesting dialogue. I could not help but look at my own life, from cradle till now. The cards were stacked against me, not by horrible parents but ones mismatched and dealing with their own demons. They were loving but guilt ridden, knowing how they helped damage their much loved children, but they went into it believing in this ideal of the American Dream. Being a human, given life and existing, within the confines of a society with others trying to simply figure it out, I am sure we all can get caught up being manipulated. Or, if stronger or sicker, be the one manipulating. My father, a brilliant man, died feeling he was a failure. There was nothing I could say to alleviate his feelings. He came to accept he was a man who never fulfilled his dreams. He wanted to give something to the planet and his family by trying to invent. The first was a saw. There were others but he, even with a patent, knew Honeywell screwed him. IDK, we are in a world of illusions and it's getting uglier, especially when I sense the country I believed was always trying to become a more justified and greater union, is being extremely manipulated by ppl that think they have God on their side. I am not that naive thinking either party is free from corruption but I sense the uglier one could win. I see a "Mein Kampf" history being repeated.
Lynn I am so sorry to hear about all of that. Somewhere in this conversation with Mark, we both came to the realization that waking up from an illusion is painful. It is also painful to remain inside when you become aware. The choice is always on us as to whether or not we want to proceed out of the cave or remain. I get that same sense out of what you just shared. Every day is definitely a struggle and a lot of times it’s painful, but I think the wonderful Hope in seeing these patterns of manipulation and abuse allows us to focus on our own care and the needs of those immediately around us. There is peace at the end of pain. Thank you so much for sharing your own journey.

Brilliant 🙌 Former mormon here too, can confirm growing up mormon from birth is quite literally a mind f*%k. 13 years out and still recovering.
