      Same sort of story, different era. My dad wore out his Jim Croce 8-tracks driving us kids around in the mid 70s. Now I'm hooked. If you can sit still listening to this song, you'd have to be made of stone.

      @Racing Roy, this is a reply to your statement, about Rapid Roy, Dirt is for racing, asphalt is just a way to get there...not verbatim....but basically!😂😂 I laughed, because you are right, really! I listen to this song every time I get into my car! No, I'm not young & want to speed down the highway, can't anyway! Why? That 2006 Cadillac STS (less than 87,000 original miles, would probably blow all gaskets!😂😂 Just a thought to share: Why do they make everyday, street cars that can travel at speeds of 120+ but we will be arrested if we drive them that fast....if we're caught??? Years ago, I drove a V-8, T-Bird on an Interstate with the speedometer bouncing past 120!!😂😂 I guess that vehicle & engine could surpass that 120 but that gauge didn't know what to do when it did!!😂😂 Hope you are keeping it in the dirt!😂😂 Have you tried "mud slinging"?😂😂 Have you ever been to a "Swamp Buggy Race"? I have!! So much more fun than these hopped up truck shows! Monster Trucks? Actually, they aren't such monsters to me, other than loud mufflers, no mufflers, updated old glass packs, whatever? Swamp Buggies were Monsters!!😂😂 They could go where no-man has ever gone!!! No helmets, no fireproof clothing, & most had no doors! But, all seemed to have a roll bar!😂😂 I don't know the politically correct term for a "roll bar" in 2020, but it is what it is! Have you ever been to a Swamp Buggy Race? If not, & you are curious, reply to me! I can share info! If you have, let me know!! I loved watching them! Never knew of anyone killed in one of those races!!!🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

    I have loved this song since high school and later-while working at a CBS affiliate-I took footage I had shot of NASCAR, 1/2 mile ovals, dirt track racing, and other assorted “race gatherings” and edited the snippets to the beat of Rapid Roy, leaving in much of the nat. sound. CBS actually bought it and made it available to their affiliate stations.

      +VinnyMartello : Rapid Roy was Roy Hall from Dawsonville, Ga. Early NASCAR star. Shot and killed by his cousin over a debt from their moonshine business

    • @furioussherman7265
      @furioussherman7265 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Not quite. You're mixing up Lloyd Seay with Roy Hall. Seay was an early pre-NASCAR stock car driver who NASCAR founder Big Bill France called "the greatest stock car driver who ever lived." Seay once flipped his car twice in the same event and still finished fourth. He won his first race at the age of 18. 8 days after Seay led the entirety of a 160 mile race on the beach/road track at Daytona Beach in 1941, he was shot by his cousin for buying a bag of sugar on his cousin's account. Roy Hall himself was pretty cool as well. In 1939, NASCAR founder Big Bill France won in Hall's car in Fort Wayne, Indiana, after Hall was arrested before the race on moonshine charges. In 1946, Hall was arrested by federal agents in Greensboro, North Carolina before the stock car race there in a shootout at the hotel Hall was staying at. Both were the kind of crazy outlaw badasses who drove in stock cars when Big Bill France was formulating the vision that would become NASCAR.

Reminds me of the times I spent with friends (as spectators) at Buffalo Park Speedway in Carrollton/Farmers Branch in the late 70's/early 80's. (;-))

    Mom taught us some of Jim's songs when were were ages 5-7 (simplified versions). Mom felt that "Your Cheatin Heart" was not an appropriate song for little kids back then. You are lucky! You are 18 and not listening to Justin Beiber. I loved Beck, Page, Hendrix, Clapton, in the 80s and even playing metal we still played Jim Croce songs at out gigs. We have TH-cam now. Man top 40 radio was it back then, & I lived through the Disco era! Politically? You may be doomed. Vote! That is my advice!

    @56DONN Roy Hall was my great uncle--he for sure had no fear!! There are many stories of him hauling moonshine in the mountains of north georgia outrunning the revenuers!

    THANK-YOU for posting this song. I have been trying to find the "long version," with the guitar bridge, on youtube.

    @56DONN Hey--I have that book--it is worth the read. My uncle Roy stayed in so much trouble but he was the nicest man! Roy Hall, Raymond Parks, and Lloyd Seay were all cousins--the first racing "team." I think the book talks about all of them--it has been a while since I read it!
