I have rare short bouts of AFib. When I say that I talking at most 4 hours. 98% of the time it’s only a few minutes. For me after a second eliquis pill I will be passing blood the next morning. After discussion with my cardiologist we’ve decided to stop the eliquis unless the AFib becomes more frequent and lasts longer. My c2v score is 0 so my stoke risk is very very low due to AFib.

So, every single female that is 65 and over are automatically at a score of 2 and therefore should automatically be put on blood thinners? That just does not sound right.

More money for the drug company. These docs invest in their stock.

@aliveat55 I don't think anybody has found out yet how much of this claim is real and how much fear-mongering. If the risk of stroke is as great as they say, which i do tend to believe as fact, and the rate of AFib in populations is increasing by leaps and bounds according to some observations, how come the government is not stepping in and reducing the prices of blood-thinners?? May be the fact that I cannot afford them will be a blessing in disguise!

So, who came up with this scoring scheme? How do we know it is accurate? My uncle has afib for 20 years. He is now 74. No co morbidity. Not overweight. Never smoked. He exercises. His cardiologist recommended rat poison, warfarin, 20 years ago. He never has taken a blood thinner. My uncle said tumeric, garlic, and cayenne pepper help thin the blood. He includes them in his diet every day. Go figure.

Is your uncle symptomatic? How often does he have episodes? Glad to hear he's done so well without the meds.

Please... show me how to give you 2 thumbs up.
      200, thanks.
I am 77, ran 8 half marathons in the past 10 years, cycle every day, weigh 148 at 5 ft 10.

Totally agree! This is BS! I don’t even think that there are signs of mini stroke un patients’ brains. They do not know what they see. They guess. But! Doctors put the fear in patients and a time on their life. Like risk factor number one is that you are over age 65! The whole medical/pharma industry is based on fear. Pathetic!

Actually say it like it really is. They are not blood thinners but are anti-coagulants.

That's the correct term. I always use it and folks - even some medical folks - look at me strangely.. HA!
And when I always refer to my Multaq as an Antiarrhythmic, they freak!
No I'm NOT medically trained, just a dumbazz engineer who likes to use proper identifiers (if I know them).....

Yes, they frustrate me by giving people the illusion that blood can be made thinner!

Have there been studies using tumeric?

You can't take turmeric with the blood thinner because make your blood too thin. I'm on eliquis. I need turmeric for pain but I can't take it.

Regarding the CHADS2VASC scoring, what if one's only risk factor is a previous stroke - *due to atrial fibrillation* - and one has since then undergone successful ablation? Would the score then (in practice) become zero?

    • @aliveat55
      @aliveat55 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

Probably not. No money in a 0 score.

@@aliveat55 That was kind of my thinking. I view clots generated due to afib differently from "norrnal" clots, and feel the score should be 0 if the afib has been cured. But not much money in that.
