Good stuff, but usually prefer double backhand volley at this height, and hit more like a drive volley. Is this a better technique or choice for hitting winner?
Sure this could happen. If the ball is slow enough you could take a drive volley as you prefer, but it must be a very specific type of ball. If the ball has any kind of pace behind it, then you don't have time for the grip change and backswing...but if it's any slower/higher I would recommend moving quickly and taking an overhead.
Again, even with these high volleys, never was your racket face ever perpendicular at contact. You always have the racket face slightly open facing up as you make contact. So, my simple question is this....don’t you agree, my goal should not be having my racket face perpendicular at contact, especially at high balls? I should not have to worry about hitting the ball long with racket face facing slightly upward because of the backspin I am imparting....right? So, now teach me how to i part that backspin you so very easily seem to do. Ha
Yes you want the racket angle to stay the same. Technique shouldn't change much and racket face should not shut just because the ball is higher. Here's a vid on forehand volley technique that covers many of the essentials: www.dailytennislesson.com/video/forehand-volley-technique-pro-level-volleys/
Super helpful! Especially the table analogy!
I like that analogy of clearing the table. Now I will try to put those high backhand volleys away on inter-county match. Thanks Brady!
Best of luck John!
Brady you genius man. Perfect explanation
Outstanding video. Explains very well why the high bh volley physically feels uncomfortable.
great lesson and great to see you back!
Thank you Mark!
It is super helpful Brady thank you.
Happy to help Pierre!
Finally i get it. Thanks a lot!
Happy to help Adnan!
Do we have to apply the same table rule on the fh volley side?
Yes same ideas, but not as difficult to execute typically.
Super true sir.
What if you are close to the net and it’s fast backhand volley or right in front of you
Good question. Here's an example on how to handle pace at the net: www.dailytennislesson.com/video/handling-pace-at-net-handling-pace-2/
Youda' man, Brady!
Good stuff, thanks Brady

Thanks for watching!
@@DailyTennisLesson thanks for creating
Holy cow I don't think i'll ever manage to do this...my brother hits really bouncy and when it goes to my backhand I can't snag it at all
You can with practice Nathan!
How'd Roddick miss that infamous high backhand volley?
Playing against the GOAT doesn't help!
is it terrible to have a two-handed backhand volley??
It's not impossible, but 99.9% of professional players have a one-handed backhand volley.
