So... which is better? The Galaxy Watch 5 or the Pixel Watch? PIXEL WATCH 👉 mikeobrienmedia.com/pixelwatch GALAXY WATCH 5 👉 mikeobrienmedia.com/Galaxy-Watch-5
Go to the workout menu and wait in the section with all the sport modes for the GPS lock before clicking on a sport mode on the GW. The location pin will stop blinking when GPS locks.
T-H-A-N-K Y-O-U, for the comparison! It helped me make up my mind. Btw, have you tried using those permanent markers to conceal the damaged trim of your Galaxy Watch? I know it would work fine on plastic, but I'm not sure about aluminum.
07:27 If you choose exercise from the list instead of using the widget, the galaxy watch 5 also gives the option to start the exercise after the GPS signal is fully synced.
There are currently third party straps for the Pixel Watch on both Amazon and eBay. They are very cheap as well and I'm looking forward to seeing how they look and feel!
I bought a 3rd party strap, bezel protector, and charger for my Pixel watch for $30 delivered. You can tell the strap and the charger aren't quite up to the same standard as the OEM ones, but for the price they are great.
The leather straps for the Pixel watch include lug attachments with regular spring bars. So if you buy the leather strap you can swap whatever strap you want onto the watch. Kind of expensive though.
I currently use the Watch 5 after using the Pixel Watch for some time. I like the design, haptics and smoothness of the pixel watch more. But I'm not fond of paying a subscription to get all the data out of my watch and the integration with my phone was pretty miserable. So I'm sticking to the Watch 5 for now until Google figures the whole Fitbit stuff out.
I've had the Galaxy Watch 4 for nearly two years, and it gets banged from time to time, and it still looks like. It takes about two minutes to change the default assitant to Google Assistant. And, I think the digital bezel is a lot more elegant than a fake winder. Thanks Apple. Also, having used FitBit in the past, I have found the Sammy Health stuff much more convenient. I keep hoping Google will come out with some wonderfully pue and perfect set of devices, but so far, oddly enough, Samsung seems better. Thank you for you review, which saved me the expense of trying a Pixel Watch
So my opinion is, that even tho the pixel watch is very pricey, I am pretty confident, that it will get a lot of attention and software updates from Google and especially because it is a first gen device I really expect a lot of quality of life changes in the software and connection to the pixel ecosystem
I have been loving mine. I was way because of all of the negative early reviews but it has been great. There's always sometime intangible about pixel software that makes the experience great
I owned the Galaxy Watch and I finally called it quits. Like many I've seen on forums, for me the back button was flaky before it stopped working altogether. The worst part is without the back button you lost functionality. For instance, Samsung Pay required the tap of the back button and there was never anyway to change it. Once you started a workout, there was no way to exit the workout without the back button. It's obvious they were aware of this and added a soft touch screen exit option in later updates. I finally got the Pixel Watch and so far I'm impressed. First I'll say, the things people are complaining about are likely coming from those who don't own the watch. First if you have larger than average wrists, I imagine most watches are going to seem small. The bezel is in fact the around the same size of the Galaxy and a lot brighter and more responsive. Heart rate monitor is top notch and when I compared the heart rate with gym equipment it was about two points difference. The Galaxy Watch heart rate monitor oftentimes didn't even register, it would just sit with a blank reading. I'd have to take the watch off, wipe the sensor and my wrists to get it to read. Charging was also a nightmare at times for the Galaxy as it would sometimes overheat on the charger and display a message, "...cooldown watch to charge" or something. I went through several watch bands as well. I don't understand what people are talking about with battery life. I haven't owned 6 different smart watches but I tracked my sleep with the Pixel Watch and after 8 hours of sleep I'm at 75% battery life. It charges very fast, so I can charge it in the morning while I'm showering etc; and by the time I'm done, I'm at 100%. A full day's work and again, only 25% battery loss and it charges to full in less than an hour. That's more than acceptable in my book.
Thanks for your insight, I'm deciding between these 2 and mostly just to stop using my phone and so that I can get alerts from work to my smart watch instead. Looking towards the Pixel watch a bit more since I already own a pixel 7, cheers
The body composition measurement is pretty darn close, not "just in the ball park". From doing body composition tests by making real life measurements and then comparing to the watch the difference was 0.05%. You just have to make the measurements correctly, that means: -after you wake up, without eating anything and probably, also, without needing to use the bathroom.
It's amazingly accurate, and many channels have tested it against Dexa Scans. Really hate seeing general tech youtubers malign it without any justification or testing.
Went with the Pixel Watch. I only have a Galaxy phone because they're the only ones making foldables. Through years of Galaxies I now know that Samsung cannot be trusted to properly optimize their devices or support all Android has to offer. Can't wait for the Pixel Fold later this year!
If I'm working out hard rock climbing I'm always going to strap on my fitbit Charge 5 (or whoop alternative). It's smaller which means more maneuverability and close to zero impact on my workout range. I also couldn't care less if it gets damaged. I always think it's crazy to see people working out in a full sized watch.
I destroyed my Fitbit charge's screen while bouldering. Never thought of getting a screen protector for a watch before but I am not making that mistake again
The pixel watch is a great watch for casual day usage such as wearing it to your office job, going to a party or a formally dressed event and even just using it in normal day to day use. I purchased a nice screen protector case for my pixel watch on Amazon to allow me to use it anywhere without worrying about destroying the glass lol The Galaxy watch 4/5 is great for everything else, feels so much safer to wear anywhere But just like my pixel watch, I have a rugged case on my Galaxy watch 4, 44mm.
I swap between apple and droid every two years. I stuck around a third year with apple getting the 13 pro just because the apple watch 6 has been such a treat. I'm happy I waited it out because this Pixel watch looks like it will make the transition I'm going to do a lot easier. Great video, I'm excited to go full Google.
Same I returned left my 13 pro /watch 6 for the fold 4 and watch. Then decided to return it and wait for the pixel 7 pro /pixel watch. I'm pleased so far I loves pixels. It's androids iphone
@@angelamciver1194 "It's androids iphone". I've been saying those exact words for years, spot on. But yea, I'm exited that I waited for the watch to combo with the 7. What didn't you like about the fold or galaxy watch tho?
The Pixel Watch is very Apple Watch-y in how it feels to use and obviously how it looks (except I think the Pixel Watch looks a lot nicer). I had a Series 6 for a while with my work iPhone and I loved it. But having the Pixel Watch makes it a lot easier to not miss the Apple Watch now. I'm loving mine.
The Quantified Scientist review says the Galaxy Watch 5 is better for heart rate tracking in comparison to the Pixel watch. I suppose we can all have different experiences with the watches and this can be down to so many variables e.g wrist size, skin colour, watch placement etc.
I would generally prefer the digital crown to the digital bezel on the Samsung - but in all honesty the GW 5 Pro has made it a whole lot better than the GW4's worked. I still miss it, but at least the GW5 Pro made sure to drastically improve how it works. I haven't tried the smaller GW5 but the Pro really does work clearly better than last year's watch. I agree with you on the GPS issues with the GW though. Between it and the GW4 no matter if I left GPS always on, or turned it on just prior to exercising, it almost never picked up the signal until I was at LEAST a quarter-mile into it. Sometimes much further. On only a couple instances did it link up close to the very outset. Not sure what the deal is here, once it linked up however, it seemed to work great. My apple watches (I have the Series 7 and Ultra) have never had this issue.
Durability, just a note, the GW5 Pro (44mm) has a titanium alloy case, plus a recessed screen, which i find more durable, and less prone for the screen to be hit. Also there are some really thin but effective "bezels" and cases (Ringke) (I use a case, and it is almost unnoticable) again helping with durability.
Love the video bro. The conclusion is GO with samsung watch if you have samsung phone, table, laptops... or Go with pixel watch if you have pixel phone. That's it.
Depends on settings and usage . My pixel watch lasted 33hrs and had 12% left before I threw it on the charger so more like 35hrs and I had it set to the same settings as my 44mm galaxy watch 4 which has a larger battery so no complaints for me so I gave my wife the GW4 and will keep my pixel watch . I prefer the design , the watches faces , app menu , and having a full keyboard instead of the t9 style on my watch 4 plush Google is so accurate and fast on the pixel watch .
Did you have it locked in a drawer? Have virtually no notifications turned on during the day, sleep mode at night and agree with the video. 18 to 20 hours max
Although it looks great, the vulnerability of the Pixel watch with the wrap around screen is a big no-no for me. The Sapphire glass on the GW5s is what every watch should have.
Could google improve battery with a software update? I have a Pixel phone so the choice should be easy but battery and auto activity detection are super important
Yes they can. The reason the battery life is so bad is that the watch updates sensor information every second, as opposed to 5,10, and 15 on the competition. Turning off constant heart rate monitoring will make the battery last much longer
Nice review !! Agree, the Pixel watch can look tiny. I have both the Pixel and Galaxy watch 4 and I'm trying to warm up to them but the lack of integration with third party apps with these two compared to the Apple watch is not close. Hopefully with software updates, this gets better for the two Android based watches.
Mike great analysis and video. Very informative. I am a longtime Fitbit / Garmin / TicPro (Mobvoi Pro ) user. Have tried Apple Watch as well (but that’s diff story). Recently (less than 2 weeks) got my Pixel watch. Used Samsung 3 series in past for few days and replaced it with Mobvoi Pro. My journey is all about usability, simple information and integration. So far I am trying to compare Pixel with Versa and TickWatch Pro GPS. I am sure I am surprised so far by pixel. Wish the battery life was similar to both TickWatch and FitBit :😂 Again great content!!
I have a Fitbit I use at work on roofs working on air conditioners . I've hit that fit bit off ladders and hit it on so many things as well as had many chemicals on it. No cracks on it and I've only gone through one band in two years. Hopefully pixel watch is just as durable.
The fact that a first gen pixel can stand up to and be fairly compared to a 5th gen Galaxy watch is pretty amazing and it speaks volumes to how good it really is in comparison, I think the 2nd gen will blow Galaxy watches out of the water if they do it right
Why give Google a pass? They are a tech company. The pixel watch should have been amazing. It’s bezels are ridiculous and the watch itself is too small. But they made it because people will buy it anyway.
I agree, the only thing holding it back is battery life, and considering the reason the battery life is so bad, it's actually quite impressive that it lasts as long as it does. The reason it's got such bad battery life is because it pings the heart rate sensor every single second, as opposed to 5, 10, and 15 seconds on the competition. If they allowed you to change it, battery life could be greatly improved
@@markmark35 I'm saying that their *first gen* stands up to a *fifth gen* and the bezel isn't really bad with the way they designed their ui, I don't notice it on mine
@@tsokiyzan8724 Google isn't a tech company. My point is they could have done much better if they wanted to. They have a history of using olds parts on new equipment like they did on the pixels. They could have knocked it out of the park, butt everyone wants to giver then a pass because it their first try. Smart watches are not new, google has lots of good examples.
Just like Android worked hard to eventually succeed in it's early days, Wear OS is doing the same. Wear OS was struggling, but from here on out it will become a very popular and respected smartwatch operating system globally in the near future.
I got Galaxy watch 5 44mm, and no doubt right now its just a better watch. I was scarred about battery, but i must say i am positive shocked, i approximately get 2 whole days, worse part is that it charging so long. If Pixel watch cant give you a full day and you want track your sleep, pixel watch shouldnt be a option. Im truly happy that i wasnt waiting for pixel.
You can probably take the lugs from the leather band and slot a 20mm or 18mm strap in them depending on the width they went with... unless they didn't use regular pins for them, which is entirely possible.
I ended up getting a pixel watch for my anniversary. I was using a Fitbit versa 3 between leaving IOS having a series 3 Apple Watch. I think the Pixel watch is like two watches I used before had a baby. The Pixel watch use Fitbit technology and makes phone calls. If I could make phone call on the versa I would have never gotten a pixel watch.
You can lock onto GPS before a workout on the galaxy watch by not using the quick start menu and going into main app or click the more button on the workout tile
I have the Pixel Watch and I love mine so far, BUT battery life is a little rough. That will take some getting used to. But I love everything else about it. The design, fluidity of the OS, haptics, subtle animations, and even the watch faces are all better than the Galaxy Watch (I have the Watch 5 Pro right now as well). This is also the first smartwatch I've used that accurately reads my heart-rate with my tattoos ( have full sleeves on both arms). Samsung and Apple Watches miss the mark for me, but not this one. So that alone makes it the one I will keep, even if I have to charge it more frequently.
I turned off LTE, location, tilt to wake, and AOD, and am getting 47hrs of use with 8% remaining. For some this won't work, but I don't need those features turned on. If I want to know the weather, I just ask Google Assistant, instead of leaving location on. Works for me, and I no longer have to worry about needing to charge my watch.
@@josephpepe2607 I only got the LTE because I was able to buy it on my phone plan and make monthly payments. If they had offered the non LTE version with payments I would have done that. 🙂
Thanks for a very honest review, although my main concern was not really addressed. My main concern with the Pixel watch is the integration with FITBIT. What happens at the expiration of the free subscription to the FITBIT app? Can I still use the watch with an alternative app like GOOGLE FIT, for example? I just don't want to be railroaded into a costly FITBIT subscription, in the long run. Could someone help with some useful info, please?
I have a Pixel 7. Part of me wants the Pixel watch, but its small, the battery life sucks, etc... If I go with the Galaxy Watch 5, does everything work properly now that its not running Tizen? Meaning, I can take calls, get all my alerts, respond to texts and emails, etc... from the watch? I don't care about the fitness obsession. I want an extension of my phone, not a medical device... lol
Actually the galaxy watch is running wear OS which is the same operating system as the pixel watch, you will be able to do all of those things with no issues. The only thing is that there's usually Samsung specific features that won't work
Pixel watch: Smart watch with good aesthetics, better google and fitbit integration and a great pixel companion. Galaxy watch: Decent looking watch with great workout features and stats, good battery life, durable design and a great companion for galaxy devices.
Nice video. You could really use a chart listing the various aspects and scoring. You voice is a bit monotone without breaks and makes it hard to keep track with what you're saying, hence the need for charts.
I hope more people watch this video rather than ones published by popular channels. I haven't found any reliable review for pixel watch elsewhere, most of them lack info that even a first impression video would have.
Great reviews. I really like the GW and keep thinking about swapping out my Huawei watch to have better sync with the health app. However, its the battery that seems to annoy me. My current Huawei watch can go for 5 days before I need to charge it, where this sounds like I will have to charge it every day.
Just returned the Pixel Watch and Purchased a Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Active for 4 reasons: 1) The Pixel watch battery life is really poor. I'm sure it'll get better with time via software updates, but I couldn't go on hope. 2) The Pixel screen size was comfortable, but the curved glass worried me a little too much. 3) The proprietary band was comfortable, but I am used to Nylon bands. Seems like it'll be a few months before more become available. 4) I use a Fitbit Sense for sleep and exercise, although the Pixel watch has Fitbit, it has missing features like breathing exercises. Maybe next year's second generation will be better, who knows?
@@KenBosse Good eye. Yes,I have a Pixel 6. I have had Samsung Galaxy Smart Watches for some time now and have always treated them as a notifications only device. However, with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5, I returned my Pixel watch yesterday and Walked away with a Samsung Galaxy Watch 5. I charged it, updated it, added apps and watch faces and used it for sleep tracking for the first time. In all honesty, it didn't go as bad as I expected. Google has made their apps like Phone, Contacts, Messages, Home, Wallet, keep and Assistance available and they work flawlessly. The one app I do wish to be available is Google calendar in the future. But majority of Samsung's apps work pretty well with my pixel as well. Sorry to Ramble on! But happy to help with anything else!
I would love to hear back about your thoughts on GW again now that you've used it for a month. Would greatly appreciate as I'm still unable to decide between the GW and PW.
@@zachjwpark so I think your question is directed at OP but figured I'd chime in a month later. I bought both the GW4 and the PW, and I ended up keeping the PW. My high level reasons are, I really disliked the bloat on the GW. I definitely prefer all the Google apps, and the Google apps only for the core services. Like ESC02 mentioned you can get all the Google apps and they work flawlessly on the GW, but it was just something that annoyed me, a personal thing. I don't have big wrists, probably average? But for some reason the GW4 never really felt comfortable to me and my wrist would sweat. The PW is very light and my skin breathes better with it. I got use to the screen size of the PW and it's good enough for me. I bought a bumper for it to protect the glass dome. Battery is definitely worse than the GW4, but I had to charge both everyday, I just have to change the PW sooner. But also it charges so fast that it's not even an issue. The one thing I do miss from the GW was alarm syncing. When you download the Google clock app your alarms sync, but oddly enough the PW does not sync. Weird for a Google product to not do that, but the GW does. Overall I don't think there's a wrong answer. My suggestion: if you have a Costco near you, get the GW from them, they have a 90 day return policy on electronics and try it out. At the same time order the pixel watch and try it in the return window and see which one you like. Hope this rambling helps.
@@yokhanman I really liked my Samsung Watch 4 Classic with my Pixel 6. It's working perfectly fine with all the features I need. The only complaint could be, the Google Assistant and Google Wallet is a bit slower than I like. Pixel watch should have been much faster. I liked the notifications of Samsung Watch. It's much better implemented than Apple Watch and Pixel Watch.
Let me first start by saying that Samsung Watch 5, and watch 5 Pro in my case, absolutely now has Google Assistant. You can get rid of Bixby and replace it with Google Assistant. I have my top button set that when I long press it Google Assistant opens up and it's super fast and super snappy. Immediate! This is a crazy comparison. You can also set it for the "Hey Google" wake up. This is a zero issue as in ZERO!!! Seriously guys just walk into your local Best Buy and play with and try these watches on. I don't get why people ask questions about the fit and the size when I literally walked into Best Buy and tried on the pixel watch, tried on watch 5 40 mm, 44 mm and the Pro at 45 mm and played with them all. I waited for years for that pixel watch after 11 years of owning every Fitbit model that was ever available including the Fitbit Surge that nobody remembers. I'm coming from a Sense, which I loved but it was at the point where I was constantly charging it. I decided on the Galaxy watch 5 Pro and I'm not looking back. Love it!! As for size I'm a woman with a 6.25-in wrist. When I add some stretchy bead bands in front and behind the watch it looks like a beautiful piece of jewelry. I have the raw titanium version which IMO looks more premium than the black. Side note: I was terrified of leaving the Fitbit platform but I am totally fine with the Samsung health and all the feedback. I actually like it just as much if not more because I just think it's visually more appealing. I'm not having GPS issues from my start but I also feel like those are software updates to come. I really wanted to love that pixel but battery and durability in my opinion would just not there and I absolutely foresee the next version of that pixel watch being totally different. I think Google, not Fitbit but Google is going to completely change by adding more protection and a better batteryfor that watch and I think that's going to be a bummer. I didn't want to look down the road in November and see a totally different watch wishing I had held out. I loved my Fitbits and each iteration got better than the previous so I will miss that but I'm totally fine.
I've gone with the pixel after much deliberation, though it's so close between the two for my needs. A close friend and gym buddy has just bought the Galaxy Watch 5 so we'll be closely comparing them over the next few weeks. I've decided to keep my pixel watch in a full protective cover (sides and screen protector built in) even if it ruins the aesthetic, in case I want to return it or sell it if something better comes along or I change my mind.
Thinking about getting the Google. But right now with my phone and tablet, I never know who's going to answer when I say "Hey Google". What device will answer if I get the phone too? (Idiotic that the phrase can't be changed for each device).
With the Samsung watch 5, isn't it more better if you have a Samsung phone? Because a lot of those features don't work on a pixel from what I thought but maybe I'm wrong
ECG and blood pressure are still (officially) exclusive to Samsung phone but you can install mod to make them work on other android phones. Other than that there is not much difference in usability between Samsung and non-Samsung phone, especially after the update half of a year ago which allows you to choose Google Assistant and Google Wallet as default assistant and payment method respectively.
@@HarishKumar-jd7gz It is more complicated than what I could explain in a YT comment, but you could find the tutorial and related resource in xda forum or galaxy watch subreddit.
I was shopping the Pixel Watch when I found this video, so as a first time viewer; your work is fantastic! Great sound quality, great script, and very well shot. This one video told me everything I need. You got a new subscriber here 👍
I am extremely happy with my Pixel Watch. I had the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro before it and had it for a little over a week. I hated the digital rotating bezel, the GPS sucked, and the battery life was (legit) only slightly better than my Pixel Watch. It disconnected from my smartphone from time to time, the Pixel Watch has not. It's highly reliable. The Pixel Watch is a clear winner. Samsung has a bit of quality control issues that they need to take care of.
I'm sorry, you must have been using a Galaxy Watch 4 as the GW5 Pro didn't have a rotating bezel. I haven't had any GPS issues and battery life is outstanding on the GW5 Pro, 3+ days with home security email, text, and other notifications coming all day long. The beauty of the Galaxy watches is sleep mode and how it automatically detects when you are asleep and withholds all of the notifications until it realizes that you are awake. Wish you the best with your PW.
I'm still tossed up about what watch to get. If I have a Pixel 6 Pro is my experience with the Samsung watch going to be the same if I had a Samsung phone or do I lose some features?
With the pixel watch you lose no features the only main caveat I see so far is battery life. If you need battery life you might want to go with the watch 5 pro Franco is right. If you use mostly Google applications (less bloatware on the pixel watch) and you like using Google Assistant, I would probably go with the pixel watch.
@@micahjohnson9184 the battery life is my only thing I'm leaning towards an LTE version, and if I'm paying all that money i don't want to choose the wrong brand. I do love the Google ecosystem
I have the Galaxy Watch 4 and I love it but I am rooting for Google to make an awesome Pixel Watch 2 second gen , bigger and even better . Competition is good.
Hey Mike, what watch would you recommend for a light user like me - who just needs to pick up calls, text on the smartwatch - due to the work I do......I have no other use (maybe check what time it is but thats it)
I really really wanted to love the Pixel watch. I'm on day 3 with mine. I absolutely love the look, size and feel of the watch. Interface is fantastic. Heart rate is amazing I wear my Polar arm band while working out and they are pretty much exact through the entire workout. NFC with google pay is great and easy to activate without fumbling around. Ok the bad. Calorie tracking I'm hitting 4500 calories burned throwing in one 350 calorie hour and a half workout. Calorie tracking is just so stupid I wish that I would have read up on fitbit's horrible calorie tracking before buying this watch. Music, so I wanted to throw some music on the device. Nope I need a paid service youtube premium, Spotify etc for a download feature. The health tracking the I'm use to for free from the Mi Band 7 or Samsung fit 2. Nope another paywall. Battery life I knew about that in advance not a big deal I have Qi chargers everywhere even Galaxy Watch ones. Another fail it's not compatible with anything but the Pixel watch charger which is sold out everywhere. The steps seem accurate so I basically have a prettier $30 step tracker with nfc that I paid $350 for. I do really like the watch but other than counting steps it's really not doing much for me fitness wise. I'm going to stick it out for a little bit but I may wind up giving up and get a fitness device that actually works for fitness and never a fitbit brand.
There is nothing that can measure the calorie usage to any degree of accuracy its just too complex in any individual its just a gimmick on any machine just because of the obsession with calories in general and fitness and because most people are over weight who think they need trackers to the them they are making progress. I have been a personal trainer for over 35 years and there is no data that trackers make you loose any more weight its just a psychological prop. I do not see any problem with things like heart rate tracking and sleep quality etc. This is more a smart watch with a lot of less useful features for most buyers. I like the pixel any watch will take damage if you doo things like rock climbing and a protective film or case protector would be useful. Stainless steel is also softer than glass scratch wise so that is probably an aesthetic design to reduce scratching on the stainless steel bezel as you can Im sure probably gat a film protector for the glass
@@onwingsofmidnight My point was that it was wildly inaccurate. I didn't expect perfection just a baseline of exercise based on heartrate age and weight like any other $50 tracker. 4500 calories when i do one 300 calorie workout is insane. I don't know why anyone would defend it. It has settled down though and now it' has been reading 2500-3300 calories.
@@Oliver1071 My point is whether you pay $50 or $600 the accuracy is probably the same as in no accuracy so you cant really compare inaccurate with inaccurate the 50$ may be closer than the $600 or vice versa just because you are used to one reading doesn't make it accurate there is no base line.
@@onwingsofmidnight So fitness trackers are just a gimmick? My point was that every other fitness tracker was more accurate even a $50 one. how hard is it? you have my bmr based on hight, weight and age and the pixel doesn't have auto workout tracking so bmr+workouts ez right? 1835+300 isn't 4500. it has leveled off though it was just wildly high the first week for whatever reason when I wrote the original comment.
I am in love with the design of the Google watch, Without the lugs, it elevates the look of the Smartwatch, and will make it easier to wear not only for fitness purposes, but for things which might require a more dressy accessory. With the more rugged look of the Galaxy Watch 5, I probably would not wear it to the Opera, or to a nice Restaurant, etc.
I also think that the fitbit paywall is a disadvantage for everybody who would be potentially interested in the pixel Watch. However, what exactly will Happen, if I would not pay for fitbit? Can I still use the watch Inclusive. Heart rate measuring etc. with 3rd party apps?
Fitbit premium is still nice, I had it free for a year after getting the inspire 2. You can still see some basic info without paying for Fitbit premium. However I think the real question is what is happening to Google fit. Will the analytics also be available there? I mean it is free so I think it would be a really helpful addition like you mentioned with third party apps if that is the case.
Great review/comparison! I've been waiting for the Pixel watch forever, old Pebble guy here... I had the Ionic since it launched, until they recalled it and GAVE ME BACK MY $300! HA! But, I'm concerned about battery life, I don't want to charge it over night cuz I like the sleep analysis with the Fitbit/Google platform... so, honestly I'm torn. Not about getting the Samsung vs. Pixel, but do I want the Gen1 Pixel watch, or do I wait... Thanks for helping me think about all of this, very high quality video too. You just earned Fi' dolla! 😀
@@qcritt73 Yeah, mine charges pretty quickly 45mins to 1hour based on discharge, so I just charge it at my desk in the morning. Haven't used it for bike riding yet, but I'm loving it!!
Good review and comparison. I am waiting with excitement for my Pixel watch to arrive in November. Any thoughts on LTE performance and how about switching between apps on phone and watch?
Had major issues with getting the watch eSIM to sync with at&t, plenty of ppl have the same issue with different carriers. I'm returning mine because it's too hard to set it up.
This whole 1 or 2 day battery life for these watches is terrible and keeps me from wanting to buy a smartwatch unless you look at the Garmin watches but then you don't get cell service. I just want a watch that lasts for about 4 days and has all the sensors and cell service.
I was gonna switch fully from iOS to Pixel but when I knew that the Pixel Watch has a paywall just to see the things that it’s supposed to give you after paying $350, then I cancelled it. I’ll get a regular Pixel 7 instead of a Pro but it’s a secondary device. There are no other smartwatch for Android with ECG that I like. Fitbits are a NO for me
@@fightnight14 That's understandable. It still is the best Android smartwatch IMO, even without those. Having to pay Fitbit premium just to see sleep stats on the PW is a ripoff.
Hi, I just got the Pixel watch 2 but I noticed, when using Google assistant, the speaker audio quality is really bad, but it's clear when talking to someone! Why is that, and is it the case of the other watches? Thank you so much! Sami
So let's sum this up: galaxy watch tends to be laggy. Got thr 4 returned. 5 returned. Pixel watch: smooth and responsive. Keeping it. Apple watch: 3 times for the same material. Galaxy health is inaccurate a lot especially with step count. The fitbit integration is actually really nice. I really like the pixel watch given that tbere isn't a watch I haven't tried.
So I Was working on my car yesterday wearing the pixel watch like a dummy and accidentally hit my wrist against the metal of my engine compartment. I hit the watch pretty hard 😅 let's just say I said a cuss work and with fear in my heart I checked the watch face. Surprisingly it wasn't cracked and it wasn't even scratched at all.the hit was so hard paint transferred to the glass and metal. I think the pixel watch is alot more durable then people think
I'm late to this, but I enjoyed the comparison. I own an Apple Watch S5, GW 4, and picked up a Pixel Watch in mint condition for a low price last week. I know I should have waited for the Google event this week, but the price was really great, and plus I purchased a Pixel 7 a week ago. My personal ranking in order: Apple Watch, Pixel, Galaxy Watch. AW still needs better syncing support for music and podcasts. Pixel, so far, has a more "elegant" UI and style than GW. GW feels clunky and also feels like something is missing.
Google should bring out a "large" (at least 1/3rd as big again as the base model) version of the same watch and use the extra space for a much bigger battery. A watch which doesn't have AT LEAST 48hrs with an always on display for the time is not useful or desirable. The appearance and the other features of the watch are great, but the battery and tiny screen are a deal breaker, although easily fixed if they produce a large version, same tech, but bigger screen and battery.
Every review I've seen for the Pixel watch has said it's a beautiful watch, but the battery life is terrible. That's the only thing holding me back from buying a Pixel watch. Please Google make a bigger watch with a bigger battery next time. UPDATE: I ended up getting one and it is actually a brilliant watch in every respect. It does even more things than I realised - like answering phone calls on the wrist, paying for purchase by tapping the watch, asking Google questions from the watch, etc. The battery life has not really been an issue so far since I just throw it on the mag charger which is attached to my laptop once a day. The battery lasts the whole day with no problems and sometimes into the next day. I have tilt to wake enabled and use the default fitness features, but am not a heavy user.
I have the gw4 40mm and I've put Google assistant on the top button I just press and hold and it works straight away I use it all the time also push top button in twice and it brings up Google wallet also got the new update so software is like the gw5 also the gw4 20mm was on sale a few days ago on amazon £149 bargain
Although Sapphire is more scratch resistant, it doesn't mean it's more impact resistance, It can withstand pressure, but not bending, which will make it crack more easily than gorilla glass
Why did Galaxy do away with the mechanical rotating bezel. I love that. Just started using my S3 again and trying to figure out if I want to upgrade. I run a pixel 6 cellphone but was always a fan of galaxy watches
So... which is better? The Galaxy Watch 5 or the Pixel Watch?

Btw, have you tried using those permanent markers to conceal the damaged trim of your Galaxy Watch? I know it would work fine on plastic, but I'm not sure about aluminum.
@Alan_1978, dude that is so simple but true.
07:27 If you choose exercise from the list instead of using the widget, the galaxy watch 5 also gives the option to start the exercise after the GPS signal is fully synced.
Great tip, I always started workouts from the widget on mine so I never noticed. Thanks!
It seems like a simple enough mechanism that 3rd parties will deliver these within a few weeks for cheaper
Bit the leather band is over $100 to begin with.

You just have to make the measurements correctly, that means:
-after you wake up, without eating anything and probably, also, without needing to use the bathroom.
It's amazingly accurate, and many channels have tested it against Dexa Scans.
Really hate seeing general tech youtubers malign it without any justification or testing.
@@leonfrancis3418 Yep!!! I agree.
@@user_name_Len thank you¡
The pixel watch is a great watch for casual day usage such as wearing it to your office job, going to a party or a formally dressed event and even just using it in normal day to day use.
I purchased a nice screen protector case for my pixel watch on Amazon to allow me to use it anywhere without worrying about destroying the glass lol
The Galaxy watch 4/5 is great for everything else, feels so much safer to wear anywhere But just like my pixel watch, I have a rugged case on my Galaxy watch 4, 44mm.
I hated the gps on the Galaxy Watch. I am happy that the Pixel Watch has decent GPS from what I have seen. How does it work for Pace?

Google is hiding some basic features behind a paywall and you need a samsung device to fully use the features on the galaxy watch 🤦🏻♂️

The Quantified Scientist review says the Galaxy Watch 5 is better for heart rate tracking in comparison to the Pixel watch. I suppose we can all have different experiences with the watches and this can be down to so many variables e.g wrist size, skin colour, watch placement etc.
The galaxy pro was huge on my wrist and hard to bend my wrist. I had no other complaints compared to my apple watch
Thank you Mike, Excellent Reviews. Appreciated
I love the dome look of the Pixel Watch. It looks so clean.
In case your interested, I talked to a samsung employee and he told me the GW6 will have a classic version again
@GH0STST4RSCR34M Hmmm, I dunno if that is true or not, but if it is, I'm even more disappointed in it's performance.
How does battery compare between the GW4 and the GW5 Pro?
I know the Apple Watch just crushes everything
@@baughaninastorm they likely turned off the active heart rate tracking, because that's what causes the battery to drain so much.
Wish the battery life was similar to both TickWatch and FitBit :😂
Again great content!!
I have a Fitbit I use at work on roofs working on air conditioners . I've hit that fit bit off ladders and hit it on so many things as well as had many chemicals on it. No cracks on it and I've only gone through one band in two years. Hopefully pixel watch is just as durable.
The fact that a first gen pixel can stand up to and be fairly compared to a 5th gen Galaxy watch is pretty amazing and it speaks volumes to how good it really is in comparison, I think the 2nd gen will blow Galaxy watches out of the water if they do it right
This is Google. It takes them forever to get it right (with lots of frustrating UI changes) if they don't quit outright.
@@markmark35
I'm saying that their *first gen* stands up to a *fifth gen* and the bezel isn't really bad with the way they designed their ui, I don't notice it on mine
Always a great honest review!

If Pixel watch cant give you a full day and you want track your sleep, pixel watch shouldnt be a option. Im truly happy that i wasnt waiting for pixel.
I still recommend you to charge it every day, but do it from 30 to 80 in the morning. It will keep your battery healthy for much longer

I would go with the galaxy watch. Maybe try a pixel in a couple of years
You can probably take the lugs from the leather band and slot a 20mm or 18mm strap in them depending on the width they went with... unless they didn't use regular pins for them, which is entirely possible.
You can, confirmed. It's 20mm.
Thanks!
You can lock onto GPS before a workout on the galaxy watch by not using the quick start menu and going into main app or click the more button on the workout tile
Yep, it drastically improves accuracy.
The battery Def sucks

My main concern with the Pixel watch is the integration with FITBIT. What happens at the expiration of the free subscription to the FITBIT app? Can I still use the watch with an alternative app like GOOGLE FIT, for example?
I just don't want to be railroaded into a costly FITBIT subscription, in the long run. Could someone help with some useful info, please?
This is one of the reason why I cancelled my Pixel Watch order. I hate Paywalls and the uncertainty!
The only thing is that there's usually Samsung specific features that won't work
Same for me, I'm thinking between the 2
Pixel watch: Smart watch with good aesthetics, better google and fitbit integration and a great pixel companion.
One advantage for the Pixel watch is no carrier adder for LTE on Google Fi. Also the Pixel watch is the only smart watch for Google Fi.
Galaxy watch 5 pro keeps a charge somewhere around 3-5 days, it all depends on what functions you will use, whether you will sleep in them, etc.

Just returned the Pixel Watch and Purchased a Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Active for 4 reasons:
1) The Pixel watch battery life is really poor.
I'm assuming you have a Pixel phone? Do you notice any major missing features from the Galaxy watch by not having a Galaxy phone?

I'm sure you did 🙄. They have nylon bands right on their website

@@yokhanman I really liked my Samsung Watch 4 Classic with my Pixel 6. It's working perfectly fine with all the features I need. It's much better implemented than Apple Watch and Pixel Watch.
@@nabil01717 thank you for the reply. It helped me purchase the Samsung Watch 4 today. 🙌🏽
Thanks for the input guys
I bet it won't take long for a 20mm adapter for the Pixel Watch to pop up on Amazon.

Rock climbing while wearing any watch is just asking for trouble! It's basically like rubbing the watch on sandpaper lol
I was shopping the Pixel Watch when I found this video, so as a first time viewer; your work is fantastic! Great sound quality, great script, and very well shot. This one video told me everything I need. You got a new subscriber here 👍
Hey, how is it, are you satisfied?
Does the Pixel Watch have gesture at all, like if the screen is as default not always on, does the screen come on when you lift your arm to check it?
Yes, its called Tilt to Wake! It has that, touch to wake, or always on as options.
@@markweaver4424 - The Watch 5 Pro has a digital rotating bezel.
@@DeadofWinter321 Yes, you are correct and I apologize. Most GW users are use to the "physical" rotating bezel.
What phone did u use with the GW5 PRO?
I'm still tossed up about what watch to get. If I have a Pixel 6 Pro is my experience with the Samsung watch going to be the same if I had a Samsung phone or do I lose some features?
You lose ECG and blood pressure, at least officially. If you're willing to tinker a little, you lose nothing, as they can be sideloaded.
@@FrancoRossel good to know, I'll have to look into it.
Competition is good.
good video. one thing, I read that the pixel watch wifi is 2.4ghz and samsung is dual band so they both have wifi but different.
watch 5 definitely looks better also love ur vids ty for the review
I've got it for a couple of days and I find sleep tracking pretty good and Google Assistant very fast.
🤣🤣🤣
I don't use fit bit n I does the heart monitoring
just stick it on the charger when you shower or are watching a tv show in the evening for an hour. You don't have to wear the watch 24/7
Thank you for the comparison video. I appreciate it :)
Fitbits are a NO for me
Why not a galaxy watch then? Genuinely curious
@@nnjjee1 no ECG for non-Samsung phones
@@fightnight14 There is ECG on non Samsung, with a mod
@@FrancoRossel I aint no fiddling with unstable mods
@@fightnight14 That's understandable. It still is the best Android smartwatch IMO, even without those. Having to pay Fitbit premium just to see sleep stats on the PW is a ripoff.
Great comparison. Thank you.

Galaxy Watch 5 has auto biking detection? How do you enable it? It doesn't show in the auto detect workout list in the Galaxy Wear app.
Hi,
I just got the Pixel watch 2 but I noticed, when using Google assistant, the speaker audio quality is really bad, but it's clear when talking to someone! Why is that, and is it the case of the other watches?
Thank you so much!
Sami
Great content. That's why I have a screen protector and a case cover for the watch4 44mm. No worries. On my watch4 44mm I'm averaging 43 hour's.
Hey which case cover do you use?....i just purchased mine too and i wanna figure out the best case for it
@@ArhamG7 Spigen liquid air case. It looks amazing and it works if you already have a screen protector applied on your watch.
Great review Mike! Subbed! I have the gw 4 and I get 36 hours and have it paired with my z flip 4
that watch face on the pixel at 4:36 thats just on that watch or is it on the GW too?
Thanks for the awesome honest reviews Mike
So let's sum this up: galaxy watch tends to be laggy. Got thr 4 returned. 5 returned. Pixel watch: smooth and responsive. Keeping it. Apple watch: 3 times for the same material. Galaxy health is inaccurate a lot especially with step count. The fitbit integration is actually really nice. I really like the pixel watch given that tbere isn't a watch I haven't tried.
Thanks Mike, really good comparison. I will stick with my Watch 4 for another year, it's still doing just fine.
When I am using Android I would go for Amazefit. Otherwise straight to Apple watch which is way ahead.
I am using Fitbit for a couple of years now but since the Pixel watch came out I am going to update.
Are either of these an upgrade vs the GW Active 2??
Ringke make a nice stainless steel guard ring for the Pixel watch
I have the gw4 40mm and I've put Google assistant on the top button I just press and hold and it works straight away I use it all the time also push top button in twice and it brings up Google wallet also got the new update so software is like the gw5 also the gw4 20mm was on sale a few days ago on amazon £149 bargain
I'll 1 up ya, I've got Google assistant set on my gw4 classic with the nock wrist gesture, completely hands free assistant!
@@specchef 🤣 I tried that but could not get it to always work no good at the wrist movements your be good at that as your a bloke 😉
THANKS FOR THIS DETAIL VIDEO MAN ALSO I WILL GO WITH PIXELWATCH HERE
Thanks Mike good video.
Aesthetics, Pixel better for me....for the rest, Galaxy rules
Pixel Watch looks damn beautiful.
I hate the Thick bezel but the
Watch looks Good. 😅
Exactly what i was looking for
