I agree with you, it was a tree. It makes total sense to me. There is a video that shows Devil's Tower and other stone structures where he suggests were once trees, in Monument Valley. Fun video, thank you for sharing your hike!

I did sandblasting for about 10 years and in so doing I made quite a few redwood signs. At one point a customer brought in 3 or 4 planks of redwood that was strange, it had been petrified or calcified or some kind of chemical process that was out of the ordinary. Point being, the boards were dense as hell, very heavy, and they were harder to sandblast than granite. I have no doubt that that is what remains of a gigantic tree.

    • @notaboutthedestination5693

That's is a really interesting story!

Thank you kind sir! Where I did sandblasting I worked with all different kinds of stone and wood. I only encountered wood like that once and I can tell you it was a pain in the ass. The process to make those signs was to get the boards planed and then biscuit join them and glue them together. Next you put the glue down for the stencil that was for the sign and then you sandblast it. The wood that is between the grain is softer and it usually blasts down more quickly but the grain blast down as well just more slowly. That is what gives redwood signs, and other woods, that neat wavy pattern. On that wood the grain wouldn’t go down, between the grain wouldn’t go down, and I blasted it for hours with abrasive sand. The finished product looked like crap and the design just barely went down and looked like a shadow instead of having deep letters and border like is desirable. Just thought I would share from personal experience, I never thought about wood being like stone until I encountered it personally.

@@virgelvelkov8753 maybe when these trees were being cut down, the very impact caused the waters on the Earth to flood. That's plausible.

From the wiki "Geologists Carpenter and Russell studied Devils Tower in the late 19th century and came to the conclusion that it was formed by an igneous intrusion.[18] In 1907, geologists Nelson Horatio Darton and C. C. O'Harra (of the South Dakota School of Mines) theorized that Devils Tower must be an eroded remnant of a laccolith."

A video that came out years ago that focused on the hypothesis that not only was Devils Tower once a tree, but it was one of the smaller ones on this realm that we call earth. I haven’t looked at mesas the same since. It always leads to the question - if there were trees that enormous, “who cut them down, and with what?”

I've heard somewhere that long ago life was silicon based. Silicon would put more oxygen in the air allowing massive creatures like dinosaurs and Giants. These stumps are over the world and these trees could of been pure crystal. Lava does not petrify logs and turn them to crystal lol Underground caves with quartz are the roots. Giants cut down all the trees and the ocean is a giant quarry, with volcanoes being compost piles. Avatar is a good representation of what they did to our planet.

Roger Sporr of Mud Fossil University thinks this 'rock' is actually a foot. From one of the angles of view indeed it does look like a foot and if you consider the striated musculature of feet and where they tend to break off at the tibia and fibula the tower looks foot like. Stand back and Devil's Tower does appear to be a gigantic foot which opens another very interesting can of info worms.

Rushmore is Horse Thief Lake and the entire area around, including across the 244 highway are massive giant petrified tree logs laying mostly half or two thirds burried in the ground as if some great ancient cataclysm wrecked them. There's crystalized tree sap too on these massive now rock logs.
