    Your videos ROCK! Just bought the Ortur LM2 - a complete newbie. Your videos are helping me understand how to use it. Originally, I bought specifically to engrave hardwoods- but have followed your videos and testing out other mediums. Trying to leverage what I learned from your videos on wood but still struggling...by any chance can you do a video engraving on some hard wood?

    I Love this Jim! My only critique is if people are going to try selling their results, recommend they get images from a royalty free or stock image site rather than Google search. As a web developer I've seen clients get fined or sued over image use. Just like us in 3D Printing don't like seeing our non-commercial models getting sold without permission, same goes for images found on the internet. 😊

    That looks awesome! Great info on the laser, lightburn and the scratch paper. I purchased 2 of the 20 watt Ortur Master lasers, one for my garage and one for my step-son's business. Of course they have not arrived yet. I subscribed. Would air pressure hose blowing on your laser head move some of that black stuff out of the way? You still might have to rub the picture in x and y.

    So watching the video and that was cool, I'm currently messing around with scratch paper and scratch board. When you set your power to 35% for your cut image in Lightburn are you leaving the "shape properties" power setting at 100% or are you modifying that to also be 35%? Didn't see you modify it, but wanted to validate.

    Love the video, but have a question about the clean-up / clear coat process. I cleaned the scratch paper as you said in both directions and when I sprayed the clear coat, I got a reaction on the paper where it caused spider veins across parts of it. Is it that I didn’t clean the surface well enough or is it because I used Krylon brand clear coat spray? Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Cool video. I have a question to you. How does the scratch paper come out? Does it really shine on you or is it more dull? I recently bought a Lasermaster 3 and tried my hand at scratch paper. But for me, the colors always look dull and don't seem like they do with wooden pencils. Is this normal or do I have the wrong focus? I've already done several speed and power tests and also with 3 and 5 mm higher focus to the scratch paper. But always the same dull results. Maybe you have a tip for me.

  • @KenRossPhotography
    @KenRossPhotography 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very cool idea! I'm trying to adapt it to my K40 laser; not quite getting the same results yet which could be due to using K40 Whisperer instead of Lightburn or it's possible that you just don't get quite as fine control over the laser intensity with the CO2 laser vs. the laser diode. Not sure yet - will post findings if/when I get it dialed in.

    • @jaymzx0
      @jaymzx0 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let us know, Ken. I was thinking the same thing. The K40 has about 10x the power output and is a different wavelength, so I imagine it will take some tinkering.

    • @KenRossPhotography
      @KenRossPhotography 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaymzx0 still tinkering with this but stumbled upon an interesting discovery. If I use low power when "engraving" such that I'm not even quite burning away the black layer, it appears that is still enough heat to "fuse" the black coating to the paper. Then, using a paper tower and isopropyl alcohol, I was able to easily wipe away black coating everywhere that the laser *hadn't* touched. This resulted in a really dark, crisp image on the clean white background and I could choose to leave some of the surrounding black coating as a frame of sorts. This was a completely unexpected finding but I'm liking the result a lot for certain projects.

    • @b-rad7708

      look at it like this, if you need more area go with the 30w, if you are going to be doing more cutting on a slightly smaller scale go with the 40w, but tbh i would just look at the power difference between the two via videos and blog reviews. if there isnt much of a difference then just go with the 30w since it has a bigger area and you can always upgrade the laser if it isnt sufficient for your needs. just a thought.

      You could tape it down, or try to bend it flat

    why would my scratch paper curl up while engraving?

  • @nickynorton
    @nickynorton 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nicky 's machine is 0nly 2.5 watt with a small beam,,,so he actually "defocuses the beam" focus on scratch paper and then place a 3 mm piece of cardboard under it before lasering

    You're killing me, man. I've watched several of your videos and they're really good...with the major shortcoming that you make reference to previous videos you've made that explains something that you aren't going to re-explain here. BUT you really should put a link to that video in your video's description. Every laser video I've watched of yours does this. In this one, at 8:00 "I'm assuming you already know how to do that. If you don't, go check out that tile video I linked earlier (?). I go through how to center the tiles and that is the same process as here." This is a loose end for me. I have no clue what video to watch to learn what "I'm assuming you already know how to do that."
    One more thing: Your list in the video description has stuff that has no relation to lasering. And I've noticed in the comments that people have asked questions that have gone unanswered for over a year.
    I've subscribed and I assume that if I don't miss any videos, that I'll figure some things out over time, but please fill in these gaps.

      That is correct. What end up happening was that the people on the Ortur facebook page end up going to the facebook page that he created in search of help and information regarding diode engraving and he and others always helped everyone. By the way, if anyone is interested just search for Eleksmaker Led Discussion. You will find Nicky Norton and others that will give any help on that facebook group.

      Ya, Nicky helps a lot of people even those with a different laser. Ortur kicked him out because he'll show better engravings than can be achieved with Ortur machines. Ortur is using open source software, hardware and ideas and providing nothing back to the community. Not to mention marketing their laser power based on input power, not optical power. Sort of like MKS relative to Smoothieware project

      Yeah it works well with lower power lasers not so goods with a 45 watt co2 as its etches the glass as well but still looks cool as does lasering the backside of the mirrored glass my 7 watt laser will remove the mirroring nicely but my 4 watt just cant get thru the copper layer probably cheaply made lens gotta a g2 lens comming for that one my co2 burns right thru it all into the glass even crack the glass if i go too slow

      @@TheEdgeofTech i am using a 5.5w diode laser, followed your video to the latter, reduced power, speeds, everything, just either burns through the scratch paper, or is just a series of charred on the top where the laser has been, does not show the rainbow underneath
