Major General's Inspection of Public Duties Incremental Companies and Bands - March 2016

On 10th March 2016, Major General Edward Smyth-Osbourne, Major General commanding The Household Division and General Officer commanding London District, inspected the Pubic Duties Incremental Companies based at Wellington Barracks, London.
The video shows clips from the inspections of 'F' Company, Scots Guards accompanied by The Band of The Welsh Guards followed by Nijmegen Company, Grenadier Guards accompanied by The Band of The Grenadier Guards.
Incremental Companies:
The cuts made to the infantry in 1992 under 'Options for Change' included three battalions of Guards. However, rather than disbanding them, the 2nd Battalions of the Grenadier, Coldstream, and Scots Guards were placed in "suspended animation" - although they would not be active, they would still be listed on the Army Roll, and could be reactivated should they be needed.
In order to maintain the traditions of each battalion, and to keep custody of the colours, three companies were kept active, one to represent each battalion:
No 2 Company, 2nd Bn Grenadier Guards (renamed Nijmegen Company after the location where the Grenadier Guards parachuted into during the Second World War)
No 7 Company, 2nd Bn Coldstream Guards
'F' Company, 2nd Bn Scots Guards

They're the remainder of the 2nd Bn of each regiment, mostly composed of recruits who have recently completed training. They carry out public duties in London and Windsor, and supply the 1st Bns on active service with replenishments as needed.

Lots of name taking, glad I didn't join the Guards. Joined a tank regiment instead, just looking after 54 ton of beastie seemed a better option.
