- The Major General Commanding The Household Division and General Officer Commanding London District, Major General Ben Bathurst CBE, inspected The Band of the Coldstream Guards at Wellington Barracks, London, on 8th February 2018 to ensure their capability prior to the start of the 2018 ceremonial season.

I remember following the band up from the NAAFI shop and peeping from behind a pillar back in the mid 50s when I was a little chap and my Dad was a Lance sergeant clarinetist.
That’s a good memory for you David and of course in the mid 30s and 40s my Dad would have been there too !
The guards lead by Senior Drum Major WO2 Scott Fitzgerald ALWAYS do a perfect job...
Tunics come back in late April nice to see them for the inspection

Captain Bethan Waters who is now ADC to The Major General at HQ London District (she was most recently Assistant DOM, The Band and Bugles of The Rifles)

Drum Major in State Dress was there a particular reason for this?
Yes. It is one if the special events for the Coldstreamers. The Major General of the Household Division is inspecting every little detail + I think it was a Royal Family members Birthday. The Drum Major's or Senior Drum Majors wear State Dress since it is a special day for the whole of the army.

If there are any more inspecting officers - they will out number the Band! There are 11 in the inspecting party and It looks completely out of balance!
When my father was Band Sergeant Major, full band was 70 strong. Today, I believe we have a general officer for every battalion in the army. Possibly for every cavalry artillery and engineer regiment as well!

Jacob Keppler sadly though it's the Grenadiers who are 1st of foot :p my dad is ex Scots Guards so I always enjoy trooping the colour every year but I have to say this year's (2018) was pretty sloppy ...shame for the Coldstream who made up 1-2-3-4 guard on parade this year

@@lukeevans8119 The Coldstream Guards are actually oldest regiment in the British Army in continuous active service. Originating in 1650. The reason they are classed as second to the the Grenadiers (formed in 1656) is that they originally were formed to fight for Cromwell
