    I'm one of those guys that called. It was 1997 and I was 19 years old. Louie answered and talked to me for so long that I started to feel uncomfortable, like I was taking up too much of his time. However, before ending the call he said if you ever need anything else just give me a call. About 4 years ago I was telling my cousin's husband, a former powerlifter (he is 8 years older than me and a much more accomplished lifter than me) to watch the documentary and he said "you won't believe this, but I called Westside in 2003 and talked to Louie Simmons for almost an hour". That's 2 random guys from rural Georgia towns about 30 minutes apart that he gave about an hour and half of his life to. I may not have always agreed with Louie, but I'll always defend and respect the man.

      You’ll find a few Australians as well with similar stories (and I’m sure plenty from Europe as well!).

      Dude, hell yeah! Im much younger. Found out about Westside from TH-cam. The podcasts that Louie has about the force posture curve and the squat and the deadlift and the bench, mostly from around 6 years or so, are more educational than any college course I've attended. And they're more entertaining than most movies. Westside, to me, is all about training optimally, and finding what works, and focusing on building weaknesses. I think anyone who thinks Westside program doesn't work just must not understand the system...the SYSTEM is to gear the program towards the specific athlete, making sure to include Max effort work, dynamic effort work, and repetition effort work in some way, always. I think people disregard the importance of the repetition effort, small exercise work in this program. Build up the weaknesses in the specific muscles and joints using small exercises for many reps...once all areas are brought up to a substantial level, the max and dynamic work just helps the athlete DISPLAY the power that the repitition work has built. More importantly than the system, is the mindset...this mindset of always learning and tweaking things, and taking the good form everything and leaving the bad from everything out. And if course the mindset of training hard as possible and having no fear. But Louie's willingness to help anyone, is so important. As he helped more, he learned more, and those that he helped were able to learn and teach more, and pass it down. Great man. All about preventing injuries, and passing in ideas, just so that athletes and people in general can continue to progress. Anyone who dogs in Westside must just not understand it, or must be jealous, I believe...

    Man Louie is the definition of a legend. I don’t think he will ever fully realize the positive effect he had on this world. Yes he was a beast himself and also developed some lifters who did insane things but look how many people he has helped. From every sport you can imagine to everyday people to hobbyists to pro athletes to injured people. He did nothing but produced content and implements that positively effected the world. Rest in POWER!

    Mr.Louie Simmons was the best of the f'n best LEGEND!!! I got the pleasure and honor of meeting and talking to him several times-and he was kind enough to let train at his gym several times back in the 90's! And shout out to another guy from Westside I trained with Big Donnie D!!!

    Grateful you shared this with us. I consider Louie like a second father even though I only spent 4 days with him in person. To see him like this, it feels like I got to spend time with him in the end. And while the words are a bit slower and muffled, as soon as strength numbers and topic are being spoken, he is right back to Lou speed and clarity. Love it. Thank you all.

    Classic. It was a sad day and then some when I heard louie passed. I always dreamed of going to westside and meeting this legend. When I watch all the videos ,podcasts etc I see myself in there. So many of my traits and personality mirror the westside way and just like westside many people don't like it. I've trained so many different ways over the last 18yrs plus. For one reason or the other never really using conjugate. After so many set backs and injuries I'm lifting conjugate and finding success and setting records even as I approach 40.

    Please list for me the world level powerlifters who use Louie's methods ?!?!!?
    ie, chains , boxes , rubber bands , boards.

    • @ronroyce6
      @ronroyce6 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Julius, Brian shaw use chains. Larry uses chains and bands. Shaw and Eddie Hall use reverse hypers. These are non Westside folks I'm sure there are dozens more if not hundreds. Board presses are super common.

      As other people have mentioned there are a ton of geared lifters, raw lifters, strongmen, pro athletes of every variety who have learned something from Louie. But with all that being said we all can learn something from Louie and his systems. But honestly dude why bel like this? Even if you think Louie was just totally full of shit the man recently died. Is it really appropriate to come into the comment section of the last podcast he ever did and start talking trash about training ideology? Have some couth.

      Chains, boxes, rubber bands and boards are the least important aspects of conjugate and Westside. Sit down kid.
