  • In this video I show you how I built a covered patio or awning on the side of my shop. I walk you through how to set the posts in concrete using concrete anchors and post brackets. How to set the header and all the rafters. Then how to lay roofing paper, OSB decking, and Onduvilla roofing shingles. In part two I will deck the underside of the awning, add lights, and trim out the underside as well as the boxes.
Big thank you to Onduline for sponsoring this project: goo.gl/7Q1HGG

I was a professional roofer for many years. I was super impressed with how you took into account from which direction you could see the tiles from the ground (from your porch) and you overlapped them in such a way that the overlaps were not so visible. Not many people think about this aspect. Good work!

  • @davidlee7290

Looks good! For future reference, you should install the bottom drip edge first and then your underlayment (synthetic tar paper) next. The underlayment should overlap the drip edge so that any water that has gotten under the shingles will flow out and over the drip edge. With your installation the water will actually end up flowing under the drip edge and may even result in more damage to the decking than a roof without drip edge installed. So just like you overlapped the underlayment as you installed it up the slope of the roof, you should overlap the underlayment over the drip edge. On a side note, if you ever install drip edge on the ends (sides) of the slope then you would actually want to put it on top of the underlayment. Keep up the good work!

Alonzo Branson . the ones Lowe's has come in sheets, and are like corrugated greenhouse roofing, but are sold and made of what appears to be the same material. apparently the product has to be painted every few years, as it fades. I looked into it a few years back, and while I thought it was an interesting product, I did not think it would do well in our Northeast climate. Maybe in TX it does better.

It's seems weird that American DIYers just don't seem to have SDS hammer drills, in the UK if you do any DIY you need one, they are just necessary since our houses are make of brick.

    • @anriroze11

Absolutely (I'm from the Netherlands) and when doing things around the house you absolutely need one

+Foeke van Veenendaal Everybody builds with what's local and cheap. Where I'm living now, stones, clay, and sand are local and cheap. That's why a lot of the houses in the neighborhood have 5 foot thick walls made mostly of native stones with clay and sand mortar. The houses last 300 years instead of the 30 years you get with balloon framing.

The problem with going to TV, is that you would lose control of content. With youtube she can be in complete control, and work as hard as she wants. Wranglerstar has talked about this quite a bit. Creators often do youtube because like it and can control their journey, while also enjoying it at the same time.
