An easy trick to pull that diff in when the lifting cable is pulling forward is a couple pieces of threaded rod and nuts to pull it in. Helps to align every a to. Been doing it for years splitting tractors to replace clutches, also sometimes when an engine won't line up with trans use threaded rod as guide pins

I enjoy the dubbed narration. Talk about a flash back "piss fir willies" is what my Dad and Grandfather called them. Did not see Grandpa as much after my Dad died when I was seven and we moved to Oregon. Grandpa hauled logs out of Mount Shasta from right out after the war until he retired in the 1980s. Thank you for the memory Warren!

Wish you could get "Tom" on camera. I would like to meet a 73 year old man who would sink that kind of money into a log truck and go through what he and you went through to keep it and himself on the road. He either just loves to pull logs or is a glutton for punishment. I say this with all due respect but he must be one tough old man. Most 73 year old folks can hardly make it out of bed in the morning. I pulled logs for a couple years in the southeast so I know it is hard work with long hours. Hats off to you both...........

Warren I have watched all your videos and to me not one of them is boring they are great just love watching you pull stuff apart repair it and put it back together I have done my fair share of rebuilding engines and gearboxs in my time from massey 35 to 592 and fordson majors to ford 7810 but they were not as complicated as what you do. you have different names for some parts than we have and some parts I did not know what they did or what they were for but watching your videos I figured them out with your explanations I will be turning 70 this month so don`t do much any more, also love your the stories too. An old guy I use to work with always said, "close only counts with horse shoes, hand grenades and dates with Mary Ellen on a Saturday night". If your not cussing a little on a job, something isn't right.. The video quality is excellent at the higher frame rate, yup slower than sin, but the quality is so worth it. The only two ways to go through a day is in the morning with a coffee and an episode of Warren or winding down after dinner and a cold beverage and an episode of Warren. About 200 miles south of you, family in the logging truck game. Boy a lot of what you say sounds like the conversations around the table when we get together for pizza. One family member crunched the numbers and decided to sell his Pete and buy a gov't approved model, and it ain't goin' good. Nobodies cares, nobody realizes why the price of lumber is off the charts...I'll stop now, LOL
That is a nice load, we used to see 3 log loads around here back when but no more. Piss Fir and his merry men have have done a number on the entire industry.

Had a guy come out and put a front diff into a similar rig, it may be of use to you to knock up a device like he had for the job, Single bolt for where you have your eye bolt, though an eye on the end of an inch and half solid rod, about three feet long, onto that he had a pair of sliding tubes with a clamping bolt for each, the inner one had a lifting eye the outer one had a yoke that sits over the input shaft casting with a small ratchet strap to fix it there. Took only a couple of minutes to set it up on the diff and tighten the lock bolts and strap but it let him use a crane and to push down on the rod to lift and steer the diff into the housing with one hand and start a couple of bolts to hold it with the other. no jacks etc needed.

Snapped an ear off of the yoke on the back of the front diff. Tied up the little shaft and locked the inter axle in and limped off the road.

A Cat rep told us last year that the new emissions requirements were making it impossible for them to continue making their engines with the same power and they would have had to completely scrap their engines and redesign everything so they decided to drop the truck market and stay equipment. I miss the old cat engines they were great.
He did say though that Commiefornia is relaxing the DEF requirement and allowing the regular regen non DEF in the next year since it was proved that DEF is useless to the equipment engines.

There was a jug that dropped and broke that ate the concrete. Now, just imagine it in a hot exhaust. You cant walk by the exhaust tip without it choking or feeling like you had your throat ripped out. I have been hakf tempted to hook up a full emissions truck, half emissions and a no emissions to a greenhouse having the exhaust partially pumped in over a week.
