    I feel a better answer for the tesuji question at 12:40 for black is O4.
    Black plays at P4, white doesn't have to answer and can sacrifice those 5 stones to get sente, and create troubles elsewhere, like on the left side of the board at C6. Or just connect at O4, and black has to answer locally (at P5 or less ideally T7), and give white sente again.
    But if black plays at O4, there will be no possible way for white to save O5. Even before that, when white plays at R3, black doesn't have to hane at S3 (which gives white opportunity to play P4 and back to the same position as in the real game), but just plays O4 and win this local fight easily.

      White can play P4 if black plays at O4^^

      @@countingtls What I mean no matter P4 or O4, Black capturing white's 4 stones (or 5 stones) will be gote.
      The main point is sacrificing the four stones is definitely very very bad for white because black's centre becomes too thick. So white 66 should save the 4 stones first ^^

    • @countingtls
      @countingtls 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BadukDoctor ya, P4 is important for white no matter what and certainly couldn't afford to sacrifice against a player like Go Seigen.
      Although my comments and sequences are mostly just about the tesuji locally, how to effectively capture white's stones if white did ignore the vital point. It might be helpful for future viewers to know there are other ways to play in the local tesuji.

    I think such behavior by Shusai (using his squad to find the good moves, manipulating the break times and the sealed moves too) is in Kawabata's novel, The Master of Go, if I remember correctly from many years ago.

    • @BadukDoctor
      @BadukDoctor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could be. This story is quite famous because many felt unfair for Go Seigen ^^

    • @spanishmackerel
      @spanishmackerel 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BadukDoctor In the book the game is between Shusai and Kitani Minoru, but the behavior by Shusai is the same. It's hard to respect Shusai as a person after you read it.

    • @BadukDoctor
      @BadukDoctor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe Shusai has similar situation with Kitani Minoru? I checked in both Korean and Chinese texts that this happens in Go Seigen and Shusai's game.
      It is quite common if a game lasted for few months. Many controversies could appear.^^

    I think the common term for Beginning is Opening or Fuseki

    • @BadukDoctor
      @BadukDoctor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In chinese word, the exact translation for that term is "new joseki"😂😂 However, the meaning of this new concept to me is like "new opening". So I come with with this weird term which seems like to mention above 😛🤓😁

    By the way, at 27:00 you are talking about haengma method. Is it explained in any video or link ? Thx in advance

    • @BadukDoctor
      @BadukDoctor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hangma is a Korean term. Something similar but different to Tesuji. I realize that this concept is not discussed about in western community. If I translate it explicitly, it means "moving method of stones".

      @BadukDoctor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Honinbo is like a big "brand" at that time, and "pausing" the game for some days or months is not uncommon. If we apply the rule of today, of course what he did is against the spirit of sport. Maybe they did not have this concept at that time though (remember Igo is art, not sport to them)

      No, he wrote in his autobiography that he didn't think much, he just play as usual, as he didn't know how importance is Shusai for Japan and considered it just as an usual play. But he also said that it's lucky that he didn't win, otherwise it will be difficult for him to continue the study in Japan.
