- Here is the Olympic Opening Ceremony Hidden Camera Footage overlaid with the audio of what the performers were listing to during the performance.
Each performer was given an IEM (In Ear Monitor) for the main cues to be given to people on mass.

Man, this was such a treat to watch here in 2024. As a kid I knew what was happening was big, but seeing this perspective is really mind blowing. Talk about an amazing show 🔥

That commentary at the end where she says turn and look at what you made gets me emotional. It lets you know about the hard work that goes into making the Olympics successful

The thing to bear in mind about London's Opening Ceremony is that almost all the performers were amateurs who had just applied inline to take part. There were very few professionals involved. It was very clever and very quirky and the music was great. Typically British.
Thats normal in all ceremonies or performances involving lot of people, its simply cheaper this way

I had no idea this existed until now and I’m really grateful someone has persevered this. Still one of my favourite things I’ve ever seen and it was fascinating to know what it was like to be at the epicentre.
I performed as one of the dancing nurses. Was extra special as my sister also got picked to do the nurses section too.
The moment I ran out pushing my giant bed to all the cheering crowds and cameras I will never forget! London 2012 💗
And Oh how the nurses danced in 2020 and the people clapped as the nurses danced. Anyone might be forgiven for thinking 2012 was a ritual for 2021.
I performed as a volunteer drummer, though I was meant to be a second, the drummer didn't show due it illness. Lucky break if you ask me?

I remember when Danny Boyle first announced his plans for the opening ceremony, complete with a model of how the stadium would look at the start, and there was a fair amount of eye-rolling at the idea. 12 years later and it's never been bettered. Never.

I was kept below budget..and well worth the money.
I'm always emotional when I watch videos about the (amazingly well done) opening ceremony. I've studied English literature and history for a few years so at the time I understood all the references of the show. A few months later I moved to the UK for my Erasmus experience and I have wonderful memories about the trips I did and the people I met. Whenever I hear the songs I'm teary and thankful for the English teacher and the experience abroad that I've had. What a wonderful country you have. Can't wait to come back for a few days whenever I can. A French student :)

I miss 2012 so much. There was so much pride in Britain, it was an amazing summer.
Almost 2 years since we started rehearsing in "Sunny" Dagenham. This brings back some amazing memories. A fantastic time for all involved, a soggy summer spent making new friendships that will last a lifetime. Thanks Dan for filming this. Cornwall still Rocks!!! WMW096.

At the 21:54 mark you can see the round thingie in the middle of the screen.
That corresponds to the 3:10 mark in this video... I think this guy is in the group stopping at the opposite side from the stairs...
@@thiesenf Specifically, use the single drum strike heard here at 1:14 and in the official broadcast at 19:21 to sync up the two videos, and you can get it more or less perfect.
@@thiesenf Yes, white shirt in the bottom right part. Facing away from the camera, the most center of the three.
That corresponds to a white shirt visible at this video 7:41 (notice the camera) the other video 26:23 - he's behind the tycoons. In the other video, look at the white shirt with blackened chest, just between tycoons 2 and 3 from the right. Timestamps might be a bit off.
I love it at about 14:00 when you can hear the guy say "Move if you have to Forgers, move if you're getting burned!" 😂😂😂😂

@@peterweatherley7669 It wasn't, the rings were fitted with LEDs and the sparks were just fireworks. The sort of stuff that might burn you a bit but not kill you.

This part of the ceremony was one of the most incredible things I've ever seen, and watching it last summer with the commentary off and the sound too loud is something I will never, ever forget. Thank you to everyone who made it happen!
Wow, this is incredible. I've only ever seen the broadcast version of this up until now so to see it from a first person view is amazing! It's taken me 12 years to find this and I'm so glad I did!
Thank you to OlympicHiddenCamera (aka a member of the county that rocks ;) ). Two years on I wanted to hear the In Ear bits again. Amazing how much I did not register on the night or forgot.
The thing I clearly remember is Steve asking people to help county J. That, I believe, was one of the few things that did not change during all the rehearsals in the stadium.

10 yrs later... still so epic! Watching it from this angle really reenforces the human turned into a machine theme of it all too: walk down stairs and u-turn and do the same action again. So much mow detailed then was shown on TV. "Poppies" was another brilliant segment. That must have felt like an eternity just standing there. Danny Boyle knocked it out of the park!
this is phenomenal, i personally watch pandemonium every month, that was jaw dropping moment even when i watch live form TV
this is just the best and most perfect choreography that i have ever seen. The music, the absolute harmony of all taking part, the effects, the show... it's so absolutely mindblowing. The producers being so emotional at the end is just pure bliss. Thank you for posting this and being part to that wonderful display. Just so so so amazing work of everyone involved!

This moved me so much. As a Brit I remember the hype and awe created by this opening ceremony. To see a glimpse into how it came together was just really something. This video is incredible. Well done to everyone involved, what a wonderful time it was for our country.
The best olympic ceremony there ever was and ever will be. So proud to be a Londoner and to have watched this on TV live. I was only 9 or 10 at the time but I fully knew how important what I was watching was.

The music is this was just phenomenal too, perfect mix of ostinatos without it ever getting boring.
Definitely one of the most impressive Opening Ceremonies in the history of the Olympics. Well done London - I continue to watch this years later because of how amazing the entire production was.
They're repeating the 2012 opening ceremony on TV. No 2020 Olympics due to covid.
Had to come back to watch this. It always makes me cry when the rings come together and the directors are so proud of the performers. Can't even imagine how they must've felt in the stadium.
What strikes me the most is how less we hear the assistant directors voice. Testament to how well the show was rehearsed / prepared.

I can't believe I had only just discovered this after like 7 years of watching the video of this scene from the stands. Loved it great insight thanks for sharing! As an Aussie I have a soft spot for the Sydney Olympics off course but I remember waking up to this scene on a Saturday morning in Australia. It blew me away! Loved it I have lost count how many times I have seen this and listened to this song. Well done London. 👏 Stay strong, Stay Safe. Australia is thinking off you during these tough times. :(

Wow that was one amazing video. I have watched 'Pandemonium' endless times but to see it first hand is just fantastic. All volunteers, all performed brilliantly.

Wow thank you ever so much for this, I've watched Pandemonium dozens of times and it was really interesting to see it from the performers eye view -everyone who worked on this event should be very proud of yourselves as this show had a profound effect on me and is probably one of the only things that has made me feel proud to be British.

Forgive my profanity, but holy shit this was fucking AMAZING. This section of the ceremony was, IMO, the greatest spectacle in televised history, and I've always wondered what it must have been like to be a part of it. Now, I have some small idea. When they turned around to look at the rings... the pride in the directors' voices... I wept. Seriously. And this is 10 years later.

As the Paris games were getting ready to start up, I watched the full London OC again here on YT… absolutely love the opening sequence.
I teared up at the end :') What I love more than the performance itself is seeing behind the scenes. As someone who wants to perform when I'm older this is absolutely fascinating. When I watched the sequence on TV it was by far one of the most moving and beautiful things I've seen. Every performer did brilliantly. Hearing everything in the earpiece shows how hectic it must've been even though it looked absolutely smooth to the audience. Bravo to everyone involved
London did such an amazing job during the opening. Just one of my favorite Olympic opening ceremony.

I just cannot believe what i have witnessed, i have probably heard two-three different voices that conducted all of those people how could that be possible? What an amazing emotional support you got from them that was just so amazing it made me really emotional. ALL of you did perfect work this is not the first time i have seen this ceremony, what a stunning performance. I am not a British so that i could understand what this could probably meant to you, but for your nationality it probably meant a lot

Somehow I missed seeing this video for years even though I loved this performance. I'm really glad to hear the production team is nothing but supportive throughout. I guess they must have had different radio channels for Drummers/ Actors and some of the other groups as the comments def are mostly for the "Working Men and Women" group here.
Well done to everyones hard work, it's still the best performance in an Olympic opening event ever. I hope you are all still proud (and don't have Tinnitus now)

@@AndreasQ2 actually you are right. Seems like all volunteers listened to the same feed so yeah, one trnasmit with enough power is enough.
@@mikosoft There were 5 channels for In-Ears. The drummers' calls are on Soundcloud under the title "Pandemonium Steve and Rick". "Stars" were on another channel, but only a few samples of that have been made available, such as the cue for Kenneth Branagh.
