When I saw the title of the video I thought yes!!! I really wanted to know if there was a lot of difference between the mids and the forwards for taller riders who've spent a bit of time on the bike and you explained it perfectly! Looks like I might be doing the same thing when I get my Chief. And then you mentioned my channel! And the kind words!! Thank you so much Big Chief! I was sitting here watching on the telly with my wife and son, took everyone by surprise and we're all so impressed. :) If I hear of anyone chasing mids for the Chief I'll send them your way! ;)
I'm 5' 11'', and I've got a 2022 Chief Dark Horse and changing to forward control was done before it left the dealership. I've since added the reduced reach handlebars and it makes for a great comfortable riding postion.
Very good information. Thank you. Bikes I Like is a phenomenal resource. He should have 100K subs. I believe the forward controls suit this gorgeous locomotive better than mids.
I just rode my Sport Chief home today. I was able to sit on some different Chiefs at the dealer that had both forward & mids, the forwards were definitely more comfy for me at 5'11". The mids make sense on the more aggressive posture of the FTR, which I also own, but on a cruiser it just didn't feel right. I always thought one of the main points of a cruiser is to have your feet forward so more weight is on your butt & off your feet & knees. I do have to warn that on one of the Chiefs that had the forward controls & the forward stage 1 air intake, the plastic housing was against my left shin. That would be SUPER annoying, so I made sure to go with the circular high flow air intake with mine, it doesn't touch my leg at all.
ah perfect, I've been wanting to buy a indian chief Dark Horse as my first bike for a while but was worrying a bit about the ride height. I am also 6.2-6,3 ish so this review was perfect for me. Still going to take a test ride to see how it feels.
I honestly wasn't sure about the forward controls. Most of my bikes have been old Japanese standards, and one Ducati, so I've never had forwards. I'm 6' 1", and the mid was a little uncomfortable though so I figured it was worth a shot. The first ride after I installed them, I was in love. Feels better, handles better, definitely worth the money.
thanks for this video. I'm 5'-8" and you'd think the mid controls wouldn't be a problem for me on my Chief. However, my knees feel like they're in my armpits. I don't have that problem on my Scout Bobber because of the different riding position the bike puts you in. Can't imagine what it must be like for someone with you're height. I'm going to get forward controls for my Chief. You got some beautiful machines Brother, ride safe.
I'm a 6'4"...forward foot controls saved me. I needed the extended reach seat as well. I'd like to get a Corbin, but I don't know if I'll have the same extended reach on it.
Funny considering I actually would've bought your mid controls had a swung at the Chief Bobber I was looking at. I ended up going with the Darkhorse because I'm 5 foot 6 and the mid controls are already installed. Also - that seat you've got makes a massive difference. Helped me a lot also, even at a height difference from you. I'm surprised you didn't get the extended reach seat instead, though.
I have a '23 Chief Bobber with forward controls and though I'm only 5'8", I would like the controls to be extended about another 2" (I'm 67yo with a bad hip). Anxiously awaiting for the after market to come up with extensions.
I have the chief with mids and I decided instead of buying the forward controls I went with the extended reach seat because I like the control of mids.
I spent a ton of money to get forward controls and floorboards put on my chief for these exact reasons. Now the brake foot peg is so high I gotta take my foot off the floorboard entirely and lift to it to the peg in order to get my toes over it. Everything I'm reading online says that you can only adjust the height of the brake arm by 1/2" which barely helps. ugh
Hey bud! Nice bike! Got the bobber, do you know what tuning the bike has? I am in the process of putting the same pipes on and just curious of tuning and if there is any bad habits with the bike? Cheers
I did the Lloyd's tune. They customize the tune for your setup. Made the bike way more rideable especially the throttle response. The bike is a monster!
@m4belisle511 honestly....no. I had to get the forward controls and I just swapped the handle bars for miniapes. The Rogue fit me better. It's just a smaller bike and I wanted to try an air cooled bike. The Chief Bobber has a better setup for tall riders. Now I'm dialed in and it's super comfortable

Totally agree. It's a good compromise.
I have mid controls and I prefer them for "Aggression" lol. I slapped some highway bars on my engine guards. Best of both worlds!!

You can actually get an extended length seat that gives you a little more room. You may want to try that.
I have the chief with mids and I decided instead of buying the forward controls I went with the extended reach seat because I like the control of mids.
Not a bad idea!
May I ask what seat you bought?

I’m 6’2 as well and really like the Rogue ……did you feel that bike fit you well from the factory?

Hi there, what is the saddlebag you have on your Chief?

What's involved with installing the forward control?
Super simple. Exhaust gets in the way a little but not a difficult install. You do end up replacing the small reservoir at each pedal.
What is that windchield?. Thx
Foot Controls Purchased at Wood's in New Braunfels, Texas www.indianmotorcycle.com/en-us/dealer-directory/texas/new-braunfels/2943100/
I’ll buy your mids. I’m 5’7 and my bobber has forward controls.
Sweet! Here's my email ....ebonugli@gmail.com
Thanks mate
I was told by the dealership that I need to bleed the ABS with a computer system. Is this true?
No way. Sounds like a dealership I'd stay away from.
Awesome Thankyou
Good thing you didn't get the Rogue. It would be too small for you AND they're butt ugly
can you post the dealer you bought them from please ...?
