The BIGGEST TREE I've Ever Cut / 150 Years Old Spruce / Future Log Cabin Lumber

  • !NOTE that this tree was wind broken I didn't take it down!
I've seen this huge tree broken by the wind at the beginning of the winter last year and I had to take it out before it gets warm in insects start to attack it. It's one of the biggest trees on our property, it was 40m high,1m in diameter at the base of first cut and around 150 years old. I needed several days to take out the logs and clean all the branches. I had the helps of the rest of the family while cleaning the branches and it still took a considerable amount of time just to clean one tree. I never had to deal with a tree of this size before, it was absolutely huge and an it was an honour to take its parts to create lumber for future log cabin projects. It was also sad at the same time seeing it go, I would never cut trees this size, the biggest I've cut for the log cabin was around 50cm in diameter.
    Thank you for watching!

Great job on the English translations. Terrific seeing that building your log cabin is a whole family affair. Great idea to use naturally felled trees for lumber, but it is clearly a lot of work to clean it up.

I enjoyed this video probably more than the others. Simply because of you teaching the youngsters how to use a axe and getting them to do work with a smile on their faces. I love it. Most kids in America today don't understand what work and chores are. They get to much stuff given to them for nothing. They just want to play video games, be on their cellphones, watch tv or just do nothing. You both are doing a wonderful job with those kids god bless you all and keep up the great work and video's

    Nik,
I recently discovered your log cabin building series, and I voraciously watched until I caught up to your latest episode. Then, I started over from the beginning. There's so much to see, I'll probably watch the series again afterwards. I hope you're not tired of hearing this, but it's amazing! It's educational, entertaining, even meditative. I absolutely love the music you share on the videos, it's perfect. Most of all, I love watching your intuitive process, and how your techniques evolve as you proceed.
Thank you so much for sharing your work with us, it's by far my favorite thing to watch these days.

SOME restrictions have been relaxed in 2019, but it will take years to see much improvement, they have a lot of forest to get through and there are still roadblocks.

Lol. Well, apparently her daughter is a professional mouse shelter builder and it works really well.
You seem to have a wonderful family and have raised your children well.

As always this was a very good video. A great tree was lost, but the forest floor was opened up to more sunlight and best of all is that your daughter made a shelter for mice! Blessings from New Orleans.

Really appreciate all the work you do with moving the camera around to get different views. I'm sure it takes a lot of extra time. It is always nice to see the family working together like that. Confidence building for the children when the parents take the time to let them help. Great videos and great parenting! Thank you!

Exactly my friend. You have it right. Forestry is also an age old philosophy. You sir have a very good idea of the Earth and all it's glory.

You sure this is not one those videos you see about what a perfect life is? Makes me sad because I had to leave the country style life when my mother moved us to the city after my father past away. At the same time I felt the joy and determination of this family working together as one. I think everyone in the USA should see this video in this time of crisis, so many have lost their way and as many have flourished, sadly divided by a corrupt government that is segregating the rich from the poor. This video inspires me to keep my head held high and keep breathing positive feedback. Great video just letting you know!
