Taking Down Huge Trees for Future Projects / LOG CABIN Building (S4 Ep13)

  • I had to cut down these trees due to the bark beetles infestation last year. Some trees were dying, some were already dead, but I had to cut all that were showing the signs of being sick, to prevent the spread. Bigger logs I'll cut into dimensional lumber and the rest I'll use to finish the balcony and front porch at the log cabin.
    Thank you for watching!

Oh my goodness!! I have to say they were the most beautiful scenes of snow in the forest I have ever seen! You have indeed picked a most wonderful spot for your magnificent cabin. The trees you are taking down are huge!! For a young man of I'm guessing late twenties or very early thirties you leave me in awe!! I'm still in awe of that staircase you built in the cabin. I use the word "cabin" loosely because it is so very much more than just a "cabin". I wish you continued good health and happiness!!

My friend who lives in Carmel Indiana sent me a picture took in Brrookville Indiana of the Eclipse and it’s The most amazing picture I’ve seen anywhere of Monday’s eclipse!!! I kid you not it was a mat black moon 🌚 in front of the sun with s ring of Fire 🔥 all the way around it. Just astonishing & breath taking, nothing like that was visible where I live in the south piedmont’s USA 🇺🇸 . But Indiana got top notch views of the eclipse.

What is so beautiful about cutting a 100 year old tree in 15 minutes. I know I am a hypocrite cause everyone uses wood. In your house, furniture. But I have some difficulties seeing it, and wonder how many trees can you cut there legally? Ore is it your own land? I must say, I follow you fore a long time and find what you make incredible and so are the spectacular views!

@@Dennis-eh2vx the land belongs in his family and even then he is only cutting down trees that are damaged or need to go to allow more and better trees to receive better light to enable them to grow also if I remember correctly the forester y commission told them that these trees needed to be removed due to bark beetle infection that went through the area and they had to remove them quickly. He has paid for the timber he has used and also replanted more young saplings to replace what he’s cut.

Word of advice when falling. When you bury your bar on your back cut or any time you are banging wedges always look up (banging wedges will sometimes cause limbs to break off from the tree) so it’s a good rule of thumb to watch the crown. That crown will tell you all you need to know what to do with your saw or wedge.

    Hi, Nik.
It's quite refreshing to see someone responsible when it comes to tree felling. I've seen many accidents where people lost an eye, a hand, fingers, and even a leg because they were not wearing safety equipment.
This is where I have a moan about what some people will do.
I do not include Canada in this statement, but I see so many off-grid properties in the USA that we can see using a chainsaw. Some are usually sponsored by some company or other. There are some who are just out for what they can get.
Sometimes, we see more than one sponsored product in the same video. Then, once that video is over or they have reached the agreed amount of mentions in other videos, they suddenly stop using said product.
I can think of one homestead who buys in trees cut to the length of a 40' trailer who then cuts the logs down to a more manageable size to fit their sawmill. Also, I can think of three off-grid families I subscribe to where a well-known provider of safety equipment gave all four families the complete set of equipment.
There were hats, boots, face gards, ear protection, safety glasses, and gloves. Two families even received a pair of chainsaw proof safety trousers.
Then, after a few videos of tree felling or cutting trunks to length wearing all of the safety equipment, suddenly they stopped using an item. Then, one by one, over the weeks, they stopped wearing the itemes altogether.
Some stopped using the equipment once they finished promoting the company in the one video whike some took a little longer. The lengths some people will go to just to fill out or make a video longer and / or to get free equipment.
There were two of those families who repeatedly went on for weeks about how worn out or how dangerious their chainsaws were. Even after they received the free safety equipment, they never stopped moaning.
It was embarrassing to see them obviously crying out for free chainsaws. They would mention it every episode for weeks and weeks and weeks where I, for one, got fed up with hearing it.
Then, one day, another very well-known company who manufactures and builds chainsaws. A German brand beginning with the letter S... ending in L, donated two of their middle sized saws.
Obviously, they heard the crys for help and gave each of the two families a brand new chainsaw with a spare chain and sharpening tool.
One week, one of the families promoted the saw, and then two weeks later, another family receiving the same chainsaw package promoted their gift.
Both families promoted the saw for the entire video, and one of them mentioned the brand several more times in future videos. But the other family, OMG. Instead of promoting the brand once or twice per video when using the saw, they mentioned the name must be 20 times in just one video, and that's it, never again.
In the weeks that followed, nothing, not a sausage. Not a single mention despite us seeing the chainsaw in action many times. I don't think that is how they were meant to promote the S brand. I think it was meant to be more like once in 20 videos, not 20 mentions, all in the same video.
The other family did mention the brand each time they used the chainsaw, they did it for months and still do. The other family I can not comment on because i unsubscribed to their channel about 5 weeks later.
During that time, even though they mentioned the S brand must be 20 times in the first video, they got the saw, and although they used the saw every episode afterwards, they never mentioned it again.
The main reason I stopped subscribing to their channel is because each week, they uploaded a 40 - 45-minute video showing the work they did on their homestead. It was interesting and entertaining. A bit like watching the 'Beverly Hillbillys'.
The problem is. Once they got all the free safery equipment, they thought, hello, free meal ticket here guys. Then, after all their moaning about how bad or dangerous their old chainsaw was, then the free chainsaw arrived, it didn't stop there.
They knew they were on to a good thing. So, in every video thereafter, and not just the once, but at least every 10 minutes, they would ask if any sponsors were interested in free advertising, just send them stuff. Send them stuff? That's not the way to ask.
All they had to do was to send them free equipment and merchandise, and they would review the products. Use them or wear them, promoting the brand.
About three weeks later, in their 42-minute video, there were four sponsors. Adding up each time they promoted the brands, it took up 28 minutes of advertising, promoting the products.
It happened the following week, too. A 38-minute video and 16 minutes of advertising three products.
The week after and another 42-minute video. They promoted three brands, but that week was the worst of them all. Adding up sll the talk about the three brands was 29 minutes. I mean, come on, you guys. That's when I decided enough was enough.
Like I said, the things some youtubers will go to just to get free equipment or merchandise and let's not forget, make their videos longer.
I guess what I'm trying to say is Nik. I've not seen you ever go on about how bad or dangerous your tools are or heard you ask in a round about way for free things. More importantly, you always wear your protective equipment.
I've never seen you promote anything but hard work and dedication to your family and their needs.
Okay, I'll wrap this up as it's gone on wat too far already.
Question about the trees you fell in this video. Is it your land you manage, or does it belong to someone else? Is that were you work? Do you buy the trees you fell? I've seen you felling trees many times before. I once watched a video of your family helping you, but I never thought to ask these questions.
Lastly, that grey hoodie with the crossed hammers. I couldn't make out the writing above, but they look very similar to the ones I use at the end of every comment I leave, which is funnily enough, the same emblem my football team use. West Ham United, who this season is not doing so well. We're 8th in the Premiership league with not so many games left to play.
    Great video, by the way.😁⚒️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

snow and ice making the world a big wonderful winter landscape. Each bend in the trail opening up to new icy sculptures on plants and rocks
alike. And no two the same. The shots up on that ridge you often go to whether summer greenery or frozen winter white outs it still is
breathtaking and a natural wonder. Words cannot describe how the quiet solitude you have there, while overlo9oking Gods amazing earth, gives
a sense of abounding knowledge and fortitude. These shots are by far some of the best on the entire internet. I also enjoy how you effortlessly
,over the years, can throw your axe and have it land perfectly where you want it. Don't care how many times it takes to just get one shot of the axe
landing so well it still is skillfully done. You make it look so easy. All this and more is why I keep coming back to see each new video as if it's the first.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share with us the things we will never experience in our part of the world.
    Humbly, Me southern AZ. (USA)

Hi Nik, I’m an Avid fan of yours since you started your youtube channel. I admire your workmanship. Amazing cabin you built with your awesome family. I’m just wondering…do you plant trees as replacement of the trees you cut? Well, we experience global warming now and every tree is important.😢

You cannot find anywhere else the exotic feeling that high snowy mountains give you. Do you know the name and height of these mountains?

Hi Nik. Looking forward to your future projects. I'm wondering, do you own the woodland, or do you have permission to manage it? Cheers 🙂
