Great review guys. I’m going to show you guys tonight what a difference wet casks make in comparison to not having wet casks. Thanks for picking me up one Dustin despite the trolling yesterday 🙂
One big problem I have with most reviews of this expression is that people keep comparing this to old releases of LB and no one looks at this as a stand alone CLASSIC SHERRY SINGLE MALT and this usually leads to disappointment. To me this is way older than its age and does the job for what it is. I was able to secure 4 of these and I’m happy I did. I could get a case but saving for 25 as I never had it.
I agree, the nose and palate suggested older whisky than the age statement on the label... The 25 is normally a special whisky but the bottling year matters. Which are you looking at?
@@topshelfwhisky I’m looking for the 21 release that will be out in the end of the year as I contacted the distributor. I know the best one is the 16 but it’s almost impossible to find. I’ve only found 20 and shop asking 1050$ + tax. Shop that usually I’m spending my money in told me if they get it it will be 800$ which is way better.
We all know why this is being chased after and if it wasn't a sherry monster the masses wouldn't pay what they are on secondary for it. I passed and I hope to see the 12 CS from 2021 here in U.S. soon.
Yeah it is not the sherry that is the problem it is the lack of Springbank Local Barley. This is definitely an auction bottle...I mean sell it at an auction.
Guys, great review and discussion. Congrats to Dustin on finding that case at an amazing price. I've loved a sample of their 9 year Local Barley. CHEERS!
I was able to get 1 bottle for about the same $187 US in Canada. Just not sure I should open it and not try and trade it due to the ridiculous secondary value in Canada. Great review!
Year before’ s 10 sat on the shelves for days if not for weeks. Bought two of them back then. Will certainly steer clear of this hype train. Thanks Mike and Dustin for the insights, and for putting some perspective back here.
I had my hands on one of these for a better price, as my first opportunity to try LB I passed for a less expensive Hazelburn 13. I like collecting as much as the next guy but I also like malted barley. I cracked open a bottle of PX this week. It tastes like nearly burnt molasses and overly dried raisins. The dry sherries are way more interesting but I would never drink more than on ounce
I like it and would probably score it a 90. But the availibilty and pricing would knock it down some. I think I paid retail 200 plus tax for it. It has some nice ashy notes to it also. I'd like to see you guys put this in a blind against the Kilkerran 8 fresh sherry and 8 recharred sherry, Hazelburn 13 or 14, and some other Springer sherry bottles to see how it really does. Blind glasses only. Cheers fellas!
I should add, I've actually done this exact exercise. Minus again blind just doesn't matter, they're all so distinctly different. The Hazelburn won easily. Followed by the "Fresh" or as I call it the egg fart KK8, then the SB 10 and finally the recharred KK8.
@@WhiskyMystery yes I saw this. Fantastic stuff and pouring into blind glasses really puts the scotch on trial and not the reviewer. The point isn't to pick out which is which but just rank them. I think I would rather see only sherried Springbank, Hazelburn, and Kilkerran in the blind but your video showed that it's not the standout. Cheers Phil!
Sometimes At least A Minimum Of One Year Bottle Refinement Could Maybe Enhance The Drinking Experience, Make It More Round Around The Edges, I Think Some Whiskies Would Benefit From Whisky Cellaring, Similar To (Bordeaux Style Red Blends) With Heavy Tannins. Eligible For Future Enjoyment, Not All Whiskies Are Designed For Immediate Enjoyment, Shortly After Bottling.
A Case ! Wow, think in a live chat you mentioned Keith got at least one of these ? Everyone definitely went co co for coco puffs over this one even more than the previous Local Barley bottles proving that Dark sells. Cheers guy's
Yeah keith and make got one, and likely in total another bottle might just be fully sampled out. Sadly, i I'd just bought a case of last year's or the year before or the year before.
I don't know anyone (who has been drinking whisky for years and has built up a relationship with a retailer) who had problems picking up this bottle as I did in the UK for around £86.00.
@@topshelfwhisky Yes I scored it 89 on WB. I have had quite a few of the '66 bottlings as they were only a few hundred pounds when I seriously got into whisky.

Nice review. I don’t understand the hype on this one. I like Local Barley because of the Barley. But the Sherry buries it. I’d rather buy four Kilkerran 8 sherry or three Hazelburn 13 Sherry.
I really hope that KK8 (either) and this LB 10 aren't indications of the future quality of sherry casks from springbank...these are NOT the sherry casks I want going forward.

@@steveno7058 oh you can destroy some scotch with water and some comes bottled already worthless with these 40% things they are more and more putting out!
@@steveno7058 You guys are missing my point yes its fine and often better to add water to scotch - Usually Springbank is great with no water and often gets better with a few drops, so the fact that this one needs water to be made good in Dustin's view say's to me that its not the best local barley, that's all...
Nothing like a 585.6% ABV whisky
It had some bite 😀
I like the color of this and smells like it looks. Great review gentleman🤙

Hi Guys,

If you have to add water to a Springbank to make it good, then it’s not a good Springbank.
That might be a touch extreme, adding water to whisky is pretty standard, even if I won't defend this one.
A lot of good whiskies get even better with water added. I think whisky that tastes worse with water added may be more telling of quality.
