    A DWP insider told me if you fill in the form yourself then right off the bat you have not done yourself any favours. Get someone to fill it for you with you . In their minds if you can fill in this huge complicated form then you could do the same stuff in a workplace.
    Always get dropped off outside the assessment building and never travel in by public transport ......again goes against you.
    Watch out for questions about hobbies.....these are not a friendly assessor but traps. Never attend carrying bags.
    You are being assessed as soon as your name is called in the waiting room and this is why your assessor calls you to the room, watching how you get out of the chair and they will walk behind you to the room watching how you walk.

      One correction: you are under observation as soon as you enter the premises. That was the one of things they used against me when I went through tribunal, they said I was able to get in and out of the car unaided, therefore I'm well enough to be part of the armed forces. They actually didn't say the last bit but you get the point.

      There's no need to feel guilt, we can none of us predict how our life will turn. Thank you for your comment, I hope others read it to see that they are not the only ones feeling guilt and hurt pride having to go through the process and that there's no need to beat yourself up.

    So good to have the calm reassurance of this video. I’m the appointee for my autistic son, who does not leave the house EVER without me and who only goes out once a week to see his therapist and then is exhausted and often ill in the days after. He’s just sixteen and the questions about being able to handle money are very hard to fit to his circumstances! Absolutely dreading him having to be interviewed.

    • @StuartMcGoo
      @StuartMcGoo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your kind comments. It may well be that the assessment is done over the phone which helps a little but as an appointee you should be involved in all aspects and remember you are in control of the call, not them. If your son becomes distressed or is unable to engage during the call you can request it be suspended until another date. If it is a reasonable request they cannot dismiss it or threaten you with the application being thrown out or denied.

    Hi Stuart
    I found your introductory PIP video very helpful. I'm now watching Part 2; could you please advise how to complete the PIP form in relation to eg my daughter who has enduring mental health illness? eg 'Eating and drinking': my daughter needs support staff to encourage her to eat and drink, having just been discharged from a psychiatric ward. So many of the early questions on the PIP form seem to apply to people with physical illnesses. I need guidance on what points to raise in each question from an MH point of view.
    Have you produced a video guide advising how to fill in questions from a mental health standpoint?
    Thanks. Trisha

    • @StuartMcGoo
      @StuartMcGoo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes we make improvements in how we deal with things over time, but that doesn't make us any less disabled or have to face any less daily challenges. The whole system is not fit for purpose in my view. I wish you the best of luck with it. Also are you registered as either partially or severely sight impaired? If not it may be worth speaking to your local social services to see who hold the register in your area and get on it as it can be useful to the application process as evidence.

Thanks

    • @StuartMcGoo
      @StuartMcGoo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Cath, by the sound of a you're facing some tough symptoms and I expect they have an impact on your daily living needs. If this is the case then you would certainly be eligible to apply for personal independence payment, that's not to say that you would certainly be awarded it but that you would indeed have a good case. Give some detailed thought to how your condition affects you specifically and the impact it has on things you need to do to look after yourself during the day as well the activites you do, or cant do, such as washing, dressing, anxiety and mixing with others, etc. Remember it is always helpful to get support with completing the application to make sure everything is communicated to the DWP.

    Thanks

    • @StuartMcGoo
      @StuartMcGoo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Simon. There are online versions being trialled now but they haven't been rolled out everywhere just yet so it would depend on your location. You can ask them this when you call to request the form. If you have to do a paper form you can add extra sheets that are typed if you wish, indicate clearly on the question space on the original form that it is answered or continued on a separate sheet. You must also make sure you put your name and NI number on all extra sheets.

    Hi, great video very helpful tips & advice, we had a gentleman from the Unemployed workers centre fill my wife’s form in for, she as a osteoarthritis hip needing future hip replacement, also spondylitis of the lower back, and suffering with short term memory loss which hasn’t been diagnosed yet, we sent the forms off, forgetting to make copies of what was on the form, and now she’s received a letter saying she as a phone call assessment on Monday! She’s now getting anxious and stressed as we might not remember everything we put on the form, any tips please, cheers Steve

    • @StuartMcGoo
      @StuartMcGoo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Steve, thanks for getting in touch. If you don't have a copy of your form you can always request one from the helpline number however you can also make notes prior to the call to help keep you on track. The best thing you can do is manage stress levels before the call with relaxation techniques and make notes during the call of questions asked and what the response is. If you support your wife with the call and are on speaker phone make sure your wife informs the assessor that you are there providing support. Do not answer questions for her though unless she is unable to answer herself. With the phone assessments it is best to go with the flow and if the result is not correct and you feel the call was not conducted in the right way by the assessor then this should be referenced in detail when forming your appeal.

      It depends what you mean exactly, generally they don't want to see a photo unless it relates to what you are saying in the answers to the questions about daily living conditions. EG don't send them a picture of a bandaged leg, but do send them pictures of your grab rails in the bathroom.

    I had my telephone assessment this morning, I didn't really want to go through with it, it felt like a real hassle. At the end of the questions, I told them that my step mother abandoned me on the street when I was six years old with a note saying not wanted, anyway they put me with a Foster family for a year, than dragged me way from them then put me in another children's home for a year, then dragged me away from them, then they put me in another children's home for eight years, then at 17 they put me in an half way house then at 18 said "Welcome to the world lad." "In order to understand the man, you need to know his past."

If it has worsened in any area or you have developed new conditions that are also having an impact on your daily living needs make sure to add that in to each of the questions where possible too. Thank you for this but for me with a brain injury & mental health probs & neck, throat/airway & digestive damage & visual probs the questions they ask don't fit MY difficulties. SICK of trying to squeeze ME (individual/unique = as ALL of us are) into their inhuman STANDARD one-size-fits-NOBODY boxes which favour mobility difficulties over cognitive ones & anxiety & mega fatigue.
    Why don't they even mention PAIN?! And cleaning? And paperwork? And memory? And insomnia? And so much more... You & SOME of us know and it's government experts' DUTY to know and not to discriminate against certain groups.
    And SO humiliating and degrading for people to have to discuss/write about how they/we use the toilet - or not = only for our TREATING DOCTORS to know: our rights to privacy and medical confidentiality are apparently trumped by the govts made-up' 'need to know' (they don't really) and targeted at those who are ill/injured/disabled and who aren't wealthy = wealthy people can keep their privacy because they don't need to try to claim (beg for) disability benefits.
    All VERY wrong = I think/hope they're in the process of creating (or actually have done already?) far better systems - but way too late IF it's still as terrible as I'm led to believe/am told.

    • @StuartMcGoo
      @StuartMcGoo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think many of us feel in a similar way to you about the process. There are huge gaps in what should be assessed and what is. I know that there are many disability right groups campaigning for change, but this is difficult as it seems that the choice to stick with this system is entirely ideological as all evidence, including cost, shows that it isn't working by every conceivable measure. Thank you for sharing your experiences and thoughts

    • @jennyhughes4474
      @jennyhughes4474 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StuartMcGoo Thank you for your reply. I've got to work on my appeal, it makes me feel very ill/sick & exhausted (& sad because it makes me think of my difficulties too much) doing this so I put it off (would much rather do my art therapy which makes me feel better) - been doing this for 15 years & was very very tired of it a long time ago. Having to waste our very limited time/energy on this stupid stuff is ridiculous - as so many people know. I'd like to think the DWP want to learn from all of us & find better ways/solutions for how to do it, can't believe it's taking this long though; I think our docs (IF they know us) & those who know us well should state what we struggle with & come up with solutions for us - & their costs. And after all this (& losing our privacy & mega stress) then if we're 'lucky' we may be allocated a pitifully low sum of money which doesn't even begin to cover the extra costs of disability & which won't allow us to buy the help we need in order to join in with things and have a LIFE & therapies of all kinds (including expensive art materials) which heal us in so many ways and without terrible unwanted ('side) effects. You & lots of us know, thank you.
