- #Marvel has produced so many classic films for the #MCU but for my money, #ThorRagnarok is the best. Writer/Director #TaikaWatiti reinvents #Thor and uses a fun sci-fi romp to mask a dark political satire. This video explains how.

Ragnarok made Thor interesting again.
For me, more like from indifferent to annoyed by him. He was so unlikable with his self-absorbed, immature, and overly carefree attitude.

@@DerEchteBabo I found the jokes overall in the movie to be the opposite of funny. It was random silliness that had no bearing on the characters nor story. Thor himself does seem to care about what is happened and has little emotional investment. Lines like the one with the disguise make him look idiotic, and how he tries to manipulate Banner makes him look like an a**hole. I found that he was far from humbled, lacking the nobility nor the care that makes a hero.
Favorite scene is Thor trying to keep Banner calm by repeatedly whispering "sun's getting low."

Anthony Hopkins as Loki as Odin was the most underrated moment of this movie.
Also, they FINALLY got the sibling dynamic between Loki and Thor right. I totally believe these guys are brothers in this movie who actually do love and care about each other.

'He's a friend from work' is the best line, both in it's accuracy and it's origin. Gives me the feels.
Apparently that line came from a little girl who was recovering from cancer or something and was there to watch the filming and suggested it so they did a take with it and it stuck…
"Are you Thor, God of Hammers?" was easily one of the most meaningful phrases in the film.

That said, Thor is supposed to have power of his own AND the hammer has power, hence why it worked for Cap in End Game.

I didn't like it at all because of that exact reason, too many Movies and TV shows these days pull that cheap stunt quoting "not all heroes..." BS.
It just felt like a disservice to the previous director and his Thor films.
They tried making these characters important, in the end people didn't care. Too bad but best to pull the plug and make room for what is new and could work.
I think it was a way to further establish how powerful she is as the 3 warriors were supposed to be heroes and her being able to just kill them like that made it seem even more impossible for her to be beaten

My favourite part of the movie is Thor descending with lightening onto the rainbow bridge with immigrant song playing. The highlight of the whole MCU for me and one of the best cinematic moments ever...
Great scene, but my favorite is just before that. When Thor finally realizes he IS lightning and Hela sees it and steps back in fear.

I just now realize that because thor is the god of thunder, if you disturbed the clouds into becoming electrically charged out of nowhere you would get his attention. He didn't know that "email" isn't just a calling card but a piece of information you send/read.

I disagree with your assessment of Skurge: his dream/goal for his life was NOT to collect more stuff. It was to feel that what he did mattered. He collected more stuff in a futile effort to feel like he mattered. When Thor returns at the beginning, he barely acknowledges Skurge who reveals having fought alongside Thor in the past further reinforcing to Skurge he doesn't matter. He agrees to be Hela's executioner because she promises he will matter in her regime. But her regime requires him to kill innocent people which he manages to avoid. He attempts to hide aboard the escape ship but in the end he takes his one opportunity to matter and sacrifices himself so the ship can take off. He is an example of how we do the same: collecting more and more stuff in an effort to find meaning, but stuff cannot impart meaning so we feel empty and need yet more stuff, and we will follow anyone who tells us we can matter.

The "God of Hammers" line is the best Odin moment ever. Tough love + teaching + the fact that even dead, he is still a God, is a perfect encapsulation of Odin's entire character, plus the amazing acting. And again, it is not a joke. It has enough time to sink in.

9:29 - I absolutely loved that moment between Thor and Loki in the elevator. So much character development and testimony to their journey in a few short lines. And Tom Hiddleston's subtle heartbreak when he hears what Thor thinks of him.

Thor would never torture or trick Loki lets be real
The one micro detail that still hits me hard is Loki being hid HARD when Odin saw them and said "My sons". Its the simple phrase that was the turnaround of Loki's whole character. Its as if he was thinking about that acknowledgement the rest of his time on screen.
Dr strange scene was a great way to show how underused his powers were in infinity war
I thought he himself underused his powers to fit the one future that would bring victory. He could maybe have done more momentary ownage but it would still ultimately lead to a defeat future.
I am, I repeat, I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS REVIEW because it is the perfect depiction of Ragnarok. Some people might ask was it made too funny to take away from the intense plot but I think not, I think it reduced the intensity of it (reduced intensity doesn't mean your emotions weren't evoked, Ragnarok was just as emotional as it was funny) while teaching us in our laughter that there were and there are deeper issues. love it
Ragnarok was actually engaging. The others were stiff, abstract, unrelatable. Whereas many can relate to and come together over a good joke

My favorite scene was when Loki cheered with pure joy after seeing Thor getting thrashed around like he did in The Avengers.
The opening scene where Thor is 'trapped' in Surtur's realm was just perfection! The hilarious bantering between the two characters left me in stitches when I saw it in theaters. And what can you say about his battle with those demon hordes? Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant" song blasting in the background while we watched Thor wielding Mjollnir as both an offensive *_and_* defensive weapon was awesome! It was a tool (a buddy) rather than simply a blunt big stick to smash things with.

MCU phase 3 ruined alot of characters. Instead of rewriting iconic characters into trash, they should just use other heroes in the first place that are more like what they are trying to change these characters into.

They unlocked his full potential just to back track and ruin his progression.

so by destroying the hammer, thus destroying his focus he was forced to actually unlock the power, and just like we see in the bridge scene his lightning is wild and flying all over the place. so when he needs to kill thanos Thor needs a focus again to condence and direct his power.
One of my favorite scenes is when Thor stated he was going to the throne room to get Hella's attention. Valkyrie said, "you will die". Thor then said that all that was important was getting the people to safety. She seemed to see him in a new light, different than what she expected from the royal family. Later, Thor gave her Valkyrie gear, more or less closing the door on her drunken and loser lifestyle. At that point she said, "Your Majesty, don't die. You know what I mean". She finally found a leader she could actually follow, a king willing to die for her, a big difference from Odin asking the Valkyries to die for him.
Thor may THINK he gave the "Kingship" to Valkyrie but... I'm pretty sure she merely accepted the "Prime Minister" posting there. Thor is still king - he just doesn't need to do the tedious bits he generally sucks at.
Thor going into the throne room, knowing there's a good possibility he would die, is exactly why he is worthy. Cap would've done the same too.
Yup what I love about this movie is we get to have Thor being a true king.

After rewatching all the Marvel movies, I realized Thor: ragnorak was perfect the way it is. He was serious in his first two movies and after Ragnorak he becomes even more serious and sadder. I think it was great shift in tone for him and we got to see him in different moods. And that moment when Thor realizes his power was within him and cueing Led Zeppelin’s immigrant song, was iconic.
I don't feel like we got to see him too sad in Ragnorok, but you realize just how much he is in Infinity War (specifically his talk with Rocket). That was a good thing - I was finally relating emotionally to the God of Thunder.
Perfect musical choice, if you read the lyrics to Immigrant song, it's basically a plot synopsis...
We come from the land of the ice and snow (Loki/Jotenheim)
From the midnight sun where the hot springs flow (Thor/Asgard)
The hammer of the gods, will drive our ships to new lands (Violence will drive our conquest)

I watched Thor Ragnarok on New Years eve and timed it so Immigrant Song rang in the new year. No regrets.
And i just think that the change fits hemsworth’s personality better. He seemed much more natural and comfortable in ragnarok

My favorite part of the movie is when Thor is talking to Valkyrie and he says “You know, go ahead. Stay here and enslave people for that lunatic. Keep drinking. Keep hiding. But me. I choose to run towards my problems and not away from them. Because that’s what heroes do.”
Not only is it funny when the ball hits him in the face, but it contrasts super well with Endgame Thor and fits very well into his overall arc in Ragnarok through Endgame.
Ragnarok was the PERFECT balance between humor, seriousness, emotion, and all things in between
It's an impossibly entertaining film, Taika is so damn talented
But was it serious, though? I mean, yeah, Hela killed a bunch of people, but that's so overshadowed by all the one-liners and jokes that I actually forgot she slaughters like all of Thor's best friends. If that's balanced to you, I'm glad you feel that way, I just don't.

This was my second favorite MCU film, I love Guardians of the Galaxy, another great example of letting these stories help all the main characters grow.

I'm so happy someone can verbalize why this was my fav in the MCU! It was a great balance of humor but did not lose any of the importance of what was happening. Great video!
Ragnarok is also my favorite!!! And my favorite scene is either the " Get Help" scene or when Loki says " I have been falling for 30 minutes" and then he gets angry at Dr. Strange.
Probably the best representation of "comic book" on film. It looks like it rolled off a 4-color press.

@@bilhelm000 Yes, but it's easier to do that with animation versus live action. I would sub Sin City or Watchmen in as a comparison to Ragnarok. To your point, Spider-Verse does it better than ANY OTHER ANIMATED FILM/SHOW I have ever seen before.
The humour actually made me remember this Thor. I don't remember any other Thor. Love how the fact that Asgard was highlighted for what it is and the fact that it was destroyed for a new Asgard. And yow, the music for this movie was lit too. Lol

Everything about this film is fantastic. I went from not really caring about Thor, to him being my favorite character. This and Guardians 2 are my favorites.

My favorite scene is when Thor and Loki meet Dr. Strange. Strange makes a 1000+ year old frost giant look like a 2 year old child having a temper tantrum. And Thor's wonder and amusement is priceless as he watches his mug of beer auto refill - also much like a little child. You can still have the wonder of a child as an adult, and wisdom doesn't always come with age.

Thor throws the ball at the window only to have it bounce back and hit him in the face. He gets up and tries it again anyway. Perfect visualization of his story throughout Ragnarok.
My favourite scene is the one in the elevator when Thor and Loki are escaping.
It's when after thousands of years Thor finally gets enough perspective to acknowledge Loki for who he is, rather than trying to change him into a brother he wanted.
And this also means a change in perspective for Loki. Even by the look on his face in that elevator, one could see the realisation that he was never shunned in his adoptive family. He was cared for but in a way that was quite misguided and a bit degrading, but the sentiment was definitly there.
Thor saying that it's OK for Loki to be how he is, paired with the fact that earlier on Odin acknowledged them both as his sons, changes him enough to put himself in the harms way on Asgard for people, he only addressed as "subjects" before and brother, he tried to take down so many times. Ultimately ending in his desperate attempt to save Thor at the start of Infinity War.
That's why I am both excited and pesimistic about the upcoming Loki TV series. It seems to be taking place after he bailed out of Stark Tower in the altered timeline with the Tesseract. Which would mean, the whole character ark, he went through in Ragnarok, would be null and void. With is a major shame.
I watched this movie at 10 pm with my family in a random cinema, it is still one of our collective favourite films because we were laughing the whole way through and we all thought it was the best direction the Thor franchise could have gone in. Personally, I am a fan of Taika Waititi's work he's directed some cracking films, and to see him flex his muscles with a bigger budget was fantastic. Allowing Chris Hemsworth to be more comedic and play into that side of the character really paid off and i think it really breathed new life into Thor, i was particularly happy to see that transfer over into Infinity War and Endgame as well

Yes...that's how it feels. I took it as a double meaning. Yes that how it feels when the Hulk is smashing you but also how it feels living in the Shadow of The Mighty Thor. Get scene and a favorite.

Anthony Hopkins as Loki being Odin is absolutely amazing. He nails the scene and I'll never get over it
I love the scene where Thor is calming the Hulk in the coliseum mimicking Black Widows lullaby and when his petting Hulks hand the camera cuts to his face and he has that weird grin... I burst laughing in the theater and from that moment Thor Ragnarok became my favorite MCU movie
I'll never get over how perfect Jeff Goldblum was for that role. If it wasn't written specifically for him, it sure seems like it. It's a small role too but every time he's on screen he's the focal point.
I really hope he makes another appearance down the line in the Marvel universe.
The part where Odin said, “Are you Thor? God of Hammers?” I think that line really made impact at Thor, I’ve seen the movie 5 times already, yet the scenes where Thor emits lightning from his body gives me goosebumps.
I remember seeing a tumblr post that said “Thor: Ragnarök is what Guardians of the Galaxy thought it was”, and there is no room to argue against that.

This Thor is my favorite non avenger marvel movie. It’s fun, funny, creative, fast paced, subversive (not in an eff the fans way), weird and risky. Plus they started the movie with a fight scene that had Led Zeppelin playing. The title card transition still gives me goosebumps.

I really hated this movie. It was unfunny, empty, and made Thor look like an idiotic man-child. It's barely a risk when the forced jokes that undercut the drama is Marvel Studios' bread-and-butter, but dialed up to 1000.

What major threats did they ever face outside of fanciful tales of their exploits with Thor? They were so pretentious they couldn't just call themselves the three warriors, they had to reverse it for extra Shakesperean gravitas...lol

I loved Ragnarok I've seen it like 10 times and have enjoyed it each time.
Favorite scene is when Thor is strapped to the chair during the monolog introduction of the grand Master and then he starts screaming. Also, his and Jeff goldblum dialogue right after. "Asgard" "Ass-guard".
I just finished my marathon of rewatching every MCU movie. I was actually quite surprised at how much I really liked Ragnarok, it just felt so much better than the movies right before and after that. It is the best MCU movie.
Can we get Ryan doing an entire Ragnarok commentary track? I would buy that on Bandcamp

I've always liked Cate Blanchett but my (norse) god I loved her in this!
Ragnarok's my favorite, it does such a great job with world building, the humor and chemistry are spot on, and the social commentary is sharp without being in your face about it. Plus the soundtrack is an awesome throwback to classic rock and 80s fantasy.

It's funny how Thor the god of thunder being tased around with tiny electric shocks, not realizing he is the god of thunder not his hammer. Also every scenes with dr.strange was hilarious.

I had no expectations after seeing the first 2 thors. This is their best film story wise, visuals and vibes. I still think this was the best surprise I got even after endgame and nwh.
My favorite scene would be Valkyrie agreeing to help Thor, her meeting Bruce the first time and Loki joining their Revengers team. Now I want to watch it all over again... 😄

Ragnorak is the best. This is my favourite movie too. Taika waititi is genius. I've also seen his Jojo Rabbit movie, which is a masterpiece. I can't wait to see in some next movie Thor and Loki will meet again. The chemistry between the two brothers is amazing.

It was also the greatest Hulk movie ever. I love the scene where Hulk and Thor are apologizing over their fight. Hulk doesn't throw stuff when Thor says Earth hates him like you'd expect. He just pouts like a two-year-old and sits to calm down before apologizing (in first person, I might add). Hulk actually felt like a character in his own right instead of just a character flaw for Banner.
Banner, on the other hand, was an absolute mess in this movie.

"Get Help" and When Thor has to say "Point Break" to get access to the Quin jet are just a few of the really funny scenes for me. But all in all, I loved the whole movie and it really flowed right into Infinity War.
I love the fight scene between Hulk and Thor, when Hulk is throwing Thor around Loki yells "thats how it feels!" In reference to the first Avengers movie. Perfect line.
