Good test, but you did notice one thing which held you back a little bit. After reflashing the PCM on any modern Ford, the transmission adapts are cleared and the computer has to relearn the trans. I would recommend rerunning your tests after 500 miles or so of mixed street driving...high speed/low speed/everything in between. Once the trans adapts are relearned, it should perform even better!
Not the transmission, the ECU which controls fuel management based on available oxygen and octane rating\ignition timing. It will slowly adjust ignition to prevent knock until it reaches the point right before knock occurs. Same thing happens when changing fuel types, which is why people that switch from 87 to 93 for a single tank don’t notice a difference and switch back.
The transmission learns your driving style for shift points at lower loads, but it is nearly identical when you put the pedal to the floor in sport mode and use 100% acceleration.

What's fun is my 2.3L Ranger with the Ford tune is faster than a stock Raptor Ranger. It also takes about a week to re-learn says it right in the directions, it would be substantially faster with a follow up video.
That's easily worth it and it comes with a programming device. You can pay twice that just to send it off to somebody and have no control over the programming if you want to change it. And Kudos to Ford for putting a tire tread as a progress meter! If you can't feel over 10% HP increase, your butt dyno is broken.

We did a very expensive tune ($1350 in 92) on a 92 BMW 5 series and felt absolutely no difference. At the time we didn't think of doing before and after with a stopwatch. I did drive the fastest ever of any vehicle in that car at approx 245kph (about 150mph). I had a 74 Charger (400cid) long before that and it would top out at only about 117mph but I did that almost every weekend (if not raining) going to a remote workplace (there in daylight, not back in the dark) for about 6 months. It wouldn't go any faster but it thought it was just taking a leisurely stroll at that speed.
All tuners do this….have to save factory tune. Love to see it again after a week of driving. It’s worth it. About that much for a custom tune that voids your warranty.

A couple things I noticed. First was Andre had the door open. Past versions require all accessories off including interior lights. Second was while I appreciate same conditions tested, it would have been better to run it for about half an hour to let the truck adapt to the changes.
It doesn't require that to tune. The request that to make sure you don't drop battery voltage during data transfer and lose connection. It could brick the PCM. Since its a "ford" authorized tune They make sure all bases are covered.

Great video guys. I installed my Ford tune in my Ranger Raptor last week, I agree or had very similar thoughts to what Tommy was saying. It’s no doubt faster, just this truck has never really felt like it was as fast as it actually is. It has really solid isolated feel to it which makes its speed or rather its performance capability feel a little muted. I really do Love the Ranger Raptor, I believe it’s the best mid size truck on the market right now. Looking forward to seeing how more of the TFL tune testing plays out. When ford released the Performance tune for the 22 Ranger, it was also illegal in CA at first. It was CARB related. From what I gathered after going back and forth on the Ford Performance tech line, it was due to licensing thru CARB. I’m sure they’re in the same debacle now for the RR, so hopefully it’s only a matter time for my CA homies with RRs til they get their tunes. Or, just do what I did originally, and just purchase it from a site like stage 3 motorsports and have it shipped in no questions asked 😂😂
You need to run this again or with a 2.7L ranger. The procal resets the computer which then requires a few weeks of driving to see the true results of the tune. This was Proven a fews days ago by another youtube channel. It's not a traditional tune and go
It’s generally just silly to be doing a 0-60 or quarter mile drag race with mid sized trucks. Maybe even more silly at that altitude. But no matter what we’re driving, we are always at least slightly interested in these kinds of measurements.

Silly question - what does the tuning do to the Raptors MPG?
I come across this video and I was surprised how much trouble you had tuning the ranger Raptor I had absolutely no problems downloaded everything had it installed within 1 hour just under an hour
I ain't no punk, I ain't no stranger, that's a blank blank blank Ford Ranger... but It needs a 6 foot bed!
Come on Ford! Not all of us are mall crawlers!
Not on the Raptor. But the others should.
Nah, I've never needed a 6 foot bed and prefer the shorter wheelbase. Either the 5 foot bed is enough or the load is big enough to need a trailer, never needed something in-between.
@@wolfgang_h3tyup a 6 feet need might indicate that you need a full size pick up.
@@wolfgang_h3t Exactly. Just get a little utility trailer if you need more
Plus the Raptors are toys. They're not the ones to buy if you need a work truck.

I just got a quote from Ford Canada 🇨🇦 for the tune. The price was $1865 and that’s not even the dealership doing the ecu flash! That’s just the price of the parts!
I’m not paying $2000 for a tune. Crazy 🤪
Order it and send it to someone in the states then go pick it up and have your local dealer install it.
The majority of the money for a tune, goes to Ford, for future warranty claims. If it makes you feel better .
Blame Canada!
Great video! Important stuff are done using a PC, not using Apple stuff, specially in the tuning world 💪
Very true!
True, for scientific and engineering tasks the Windows machine is king.
Linux is a much better platform for scientific stuff, but Windows certainly makes plug and play easier
@@Cloud30000 Agree!
Great video thanks guys! Could you please test the 3.5 Ecoboost Lariat or XLT?
I have a 2.7 ranger, in colorado. If you're interested in doing a side by side comparison to the raptor. I went 15.15@92 last night according to the dragy...
Using a Cybertruck as a battery tender is OP
Mine took about 30 min, I thought it was an easy install, but I have a "windows shop" I think the truck has an (electronic) learning curve for the shift points and boost timing that considers the driving habits over time.
Overall I am pretty happy with new tune in mine.
You have to wait a few hours or a few engine cycles until the system "open up", probably one or two days later to get all the new tune performance.
Ranger Raptor is sick
58k for a ranger LOL!
I would agree it is sick. Sick to pay that much money for a ranger raptor.
@@TheCamaro5Haters gonna be dumb. No surprise there.
@@302Mustang13 yeah 58k for a ranger is dumb.
@@TheCamaro5 I don't think it's worth it but there's probably $10k worth of suspension and tire upgrades that come with it and the powerful 3.0 V6 twin turbo that smokes that sad Colorado 2.7 Turbomax. This tune is a reason I would buy it and it'll be much quicker and stronger once the computer adjusts.
Steeda video says ford is adaptive and takes driving to improve performance and transmission shift points. They did dyno runs before and immediately after the tune and a week later with dramatic improvements after a week. Instructions also says shifting quality will be off and make take several days.
$15k difference between the two. The ranger is worth more than that. You can't compare the two
This is normal procedure for tuning . In my 2017 3rd gen Tacoma v6 it's basically same procedure. I use Vf tuner on my Tacoma.
just did this to out ranger raptor.. had to work hand in hand with dealer. ASE A8 cert required to keep 3yr 36k warranty. brake boost harder... it takes it well.
My completely stock 2005 Supercharged Pontiac Grand Prix GTP comp G ran a 13.8 quarter mile. The competition G was pretty rare and only had a more aggressive final drive ratio in the front differential and lighter weight Wheels that made it slightly quicker than the standard GTP.
Good results considering you didn't give it time to adapt.
Great video but as previously stated the trans needs time to relearn shift points etc. I hope you guys re test after a couple hundred miles and see what the actual numbers end up being.
I was CERTAIN Tommy's Ford would lay down twin tracks of flames @ 88mph.
I know it's a mile above sea level but those Raptor times are the same as my 2013 Xterra. That's funny.
Reminds me of the cobb tuning device I had on my evolution. What the heck though not available in CA. Come on ford get that CARB approval so we can buy
Yeah in the drag world a 1/2 second you're not gonna fell it up in the 15 second range but when you're down in the 9 to 8 second range you will definitely feel the difference in a half of a second gain
Not sure if the Ranger was put in sport mode or Baja mode after the tune. Also was traction control turned off? Was 93 octane in the tank? Andre usually confirms the settings verbally before he launches, I didn’t see that in this video. These things make a big difference in time.
Thank Mary F-ing Barra, always behind
Are you also going to thank her for the 1064 HP ZR1 Corvette?
The $200k one normal people can't buy?
@@Jay-me7gw And it competes with and in most cases out performs cars costing upwards of 500K.
Well those billionaires buying $500k cars clearly aren't financially responsible.
🤦
@@Jay-me7gw It's still a valid point and how can you say a person that could easily afford a half million dollar car in not financially responsible. They obviously know something about finances and making money. A lot more than either one of us.
This is a good duo
No surprises here. Andre, if you'll recall, your Colorado got its doors blown off by the "normal" 4 cyl Ranger.
To make that Colorado fast, somebody’s gonna put a 427 in it and then it’ll be a “good” race.
That's what the tune does. Adds a few pounds of boost and lets more boost happen sooner.
I think the new tune needs some time to relearn and it will be quicker. I ran a 13.5 1/4mile and 0-60 in 5.1secs. I confirmed between my SkyRC GPS and a Dragy. I also did see a bit of MPG gain on the highway.
What altitude were you running at?
@@johnhahn8464 I’m in Florida. The Dragy says about 220ft above sea level, but the altitude density of 2,425ft. 82°F temperature.
We are at over 5,400 ft above sea level with a 90F ambient temperature.
@@TKO593 exactly there you have it!
@@johnhahn8464 I still seen improvement over a short time. Altitude alone is not it.
This is an adaptive tune. I gained lots of HP & TQ after driving with the tune for 3 weeks. Did you guys give the tune some time to adapt or simply add the tune & test the vehicle again?
Sport, full brake, full throttle to launch it
That tuner reminds me of my Bullydog process for my Tundra. Makes a big difference, but it is a pain to do.
Wait a minute, you said the Chevy doesn't have cruise control?? Now "that's" a deal breaker for me!
You need to run this again or with a 2.7L ranger. The procal resets the computer which then requires a few weeks of driving to see the true results of the tune. This was
Proven a fews days ago by another youtube channel. It's not a traditional tune and go
Let your KID do the Windows-based download and save 7.5 hours. 🤣
Huh?
LOL!
Unless they accidentally turn your ride into a brick…
@@willbenner3 Yeah... hate it when that happens. 🙄
Wondering if you were in Baja mode in the ranger after the tune. Think it would have made a difference?
If you look at the dyno graph it shows the tuned torque at a lower RPM
It shows a broad increase over the entire rev range.
Andre! Cruz Control!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😎
I had to do the same thing to my 2023 Bronco when I installed the FMS tuner…took about 45 minutes
It’s generally just silly to be doing a 0-60 or quarter mile drag race with mid sized trucks. Maybe even more silly at that altitude. But no matter what we’re driving, we are always at least slightly interested in these kinds of measurements.
You guys should also test the 5 star tuning on the Raptor also
Because none of their crap is emissions legal.
Ford smoking a Chevy. As is tradition.
Preach brother preach!
Ford on side of road smoking is the tradition 😅
Lol
A 400hp truck running 16s is a joke. Lol my 84 Camaro ran low 15s new with 190hp
Anyone else think they should do a driver swap for each race? Like on the baseline, run it, then make the guys swap trucks, then run it again.
Guys just use Parallels and in 15 minutes you'll have a windows VM and you can easily connect the USB port in use to it and you'll be good to go on any Mac.
Dynomotive Australia have Ranger Raptor tunes 582 hp at the rear wheels on 37 inch tyres…
A real comparison would be the previous 3.6L V6 w/ a Edelbrock screw supercharger kit. The 2.7 HO is already a stressed engine.
This is a 3.0
Andre's Colorado did pretty good considering it doesn't have cruise control
The process of adding a tune to the device is common and has been for years, its standard for remote tuning. You guys made it a big deal but it really isn't. And you need to drive the truck for some time for relearn, it will keep getting better.
How long will it take the chevy trans to relearn after installing cruise control?
