This locomotive is a work of art, not only for its shape but the black and deep red CP livery. The loco and train in deep red contrast with the forest and fit into the scene perfectly, man-made and nature in harmony.
The purge is a normal thing to do when the locomotive has been standing for any length of time, residual water in the cylinders would cause damage if not vented. In this case, I'm thinking they made a good show of it for the fans, really impressive..
True traditionally only done for a few rotations of the drivers, thus this was clearly done for the video/pictures as there would not have been that much steam-generated condensation built up!
Honestly this is one of the most beautiful engines I have ever seen. The paint job is wonderful, and seeing her ride through with a skirt of clouds was one of the most enchanting things I've ever witnessed. Sorry to sound poetic, but raw pressure and mechanical power has way more of an emotional impact than any internal combustion engine or electric motor. This is why people like steam locomotives so much.
What a breathtaking sight and sound,no diesel can ever match this beauty, its ALIVE.are they going to preserve or destroy it?This is addictive watching..............Thanksgreetings from UK
For a man that knows how the equipment operates to its finest detail, this is a show that tells what the equipment is doing in every aspect of its operation. Can't get that kind of analysis with a diesel, as much as I love them. Only a steamer can transmit so much information as it does its thing. LONG LIVE STEAM! as a post script, I'd like to mention a cartoon, where someone said that an automobile would never supplant the horse. If we ever get an EMP, steam would be the way to move the world!
I'm old, and I've seen all governments do everything wrong for over 5 decades… but anyone who would vote to have this gorgeous train sent to the cutter should be drawn and quartered in public, but before that, have all the school children file by in the 1000s to see who is robbing them, and future generations of this glory and pride of workmanship. This train can't be replaced. I seriously think the world has gone mad. And don't tell me it's too costly to save steam trains… just look at what the dear politicians spend millions upon yearly….
Ha ha... yes... in fact when I was 40 in the early 80's, I'd never touched a computer before... way before any PC ... we were hooked up to a "Main Frame" downtown. I had two weeks training and went on to set up 28 STC'd aircraft ship systems on a multi-tiered fully indented BOM using parent/child format that involved some 62,000 individual components. Blueprints were taped up on the wall and painstakingly transferred a nut and bolt at a time.. it took three years. No one would do that now, but I learned a lot.
I know just what you are saying Jim.... I've watched the same type of dumb assed morons totally destroy almost all of the fantastic history of my city and in the process they turned it into a sterile 'Jetsons City' about as bland and as boring as batshit today. My secret wish is to have them and their offspring be forced to live forever in the 'ferret' boxes that they have created in their mindless thinking and their greed and their total failure to understand just how very precious so much of history can really be. Oh yes we had engines such as this one but long since gone to scrap metal for just another $ profit for the money grubbers. And no doubt, so much like the ones you speak of as well.
As a 4th generation rail-roader, and bringing in the 5th - love this!!!. My grandpa and dad always told stories about the old Calder yards, and turntables in Calder and Edson.
The title "The Beauty of Steam on a Cold Morning" is so apropos. Notice also the color of smoke coming from the smokestack, light grey. This is a sign of clean efficient combustion. The fireman knows what he's doing.
Its like the train creates its on path in the clouds. An angelic appearance. Everything that is behind and beside it on either side disappears into the clouds. All your problems are washed away as you depart into the heavens.LOVED THE VID
You gotta admit this is a beautiful engine! Just as beautiful as the country she traverses! Many memories of my visit to Lake Louise on the Canadian years ago. I can feel the crispness in the air. Greetings from Florida.
@Steam_Dev nope I am really talking about bringing some of the steam power back to life. Yes I’m a non technical person with a love for these that I’ve seen in childhood and adolescence.
What American ingenuity? The steam locomotive was invented and developed in Britain. Most of the early American locomotives were built there, until a domestic industry sprang up in the mid-1830s. As for 2816, she was built in Montreal to the designs of an ex-patriot Brit, Henry Blaine Bowen, who incorporated British developments in advance of then-current American common use.
Must be that time of year again Oct... I'm stuck indoors on a grey wet day in the UK . I always love to see this clip, what a glorious sound and sight she is.
@@ZazzelTheGamer No its Canadian Pacific 2816, also known as the "Empress", is a preserved class "H-1b" 4-6-4 Hudson-type steam locomotive built by the Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW) in December 1930 for the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR); the only non-streamlined H1 Hudson to have survived into preservation. We have many beautiful locos in the UK but this is one of my favourite steamers . This video, loco and scenery are unsurpassed by anything else on YT for me .I prefer North American and Canadian Railways.
Just amazing; and to think all that incredible show, just moving the train to the ready platform, ha, ha! As long as there are still humans with souls on this planet, Steam will never die.
Holy crap, do you think everybody's warm now? The engineer was creating a steamy background just for you. Ladies and gentlemen, one of the world's most beautiful steam engines in operation! God save the Queen, and God save the Empress.
This is where part of my story titled, Adoption Not an Option, takes place.I love the sound of a train. It carries a haunting sound of moving into the abyss of space with no time yet time will change your course. I was a little girl, maybe three, when my life changed profoundly as I boarded the stairs and moved far away. I had no idea at the time that the train whistle would be forever etched into my life as a symbol of the family that disappeared from me. This mystical sound will be a huge part of my upcoming film, "Eugenea's Story." I can't wait to see it on screen.
I live 50 km from Louise in the resort town of Banff, the 2816 comes through this area a couple of times every summer on various excursions, special events, etc, from its base in the city of Calgary 150 km east of here Tickets for excursions are advertised in the local newspapers a few months ahead, there may be a website too but I am not aware of it, try the CP Rail website. Several world famous mountain lakes are a few km behind this scene, up side roads, and the spiral tunnels about 20 km
I wish these incredible machines were still operating. I live not far from a railroad track, and for over 30 years I've listened to the loud, obnoxious noise of diesel locomotives.
GOD! Is there anything else? This is the personification of the right guy/girl being in the right place/time to capture probably the most "Dream-like" sequence in all steam lovers of all time.
As an 8 year old child, near a steam locomotive which was doing this move, it scared me very badly. I still cannot tell the story without gettomg emotional.

In one word. Fantastic. I am sorry that in Portugal with so many steam locomotives and that they are no longer used especially with tourists and children so that they could see what it was like in the old days.
Hell yea! Ever since I was 5 yrs old during the holidays I would help my dad put up his old Lionel freight train I wanted to be a steam engineer and one day have my own loco showing her off to the world and spark a kids interest like it did for me. Sadly thats too expensive and the way my bank account is set up I got a checking and savings, but I got a daily limit of 100$ lmao
You would need a fireman to keep the fire going, plus a maintenance crew. The last thing you want is scalding steam in your face. That's a lot of money. Lol

Not only that. But the pristine nature of the livery. That grey paint is beautifully done.
Can't wait for her run later this year, giving her fans one magnificent run from Canada to Mexico!
Tuscan and grey

真的是非常非常的浪費能源,小小的驅動器,那來的那麼多冷凝水,我們是做空調的工程人員,都是在設計這方面的工程,所以操作人員應該再教育一下吧!

I agree!.
That mountain bluff or whatever, incredible
Way more? Combustion engines can be just as good. To me that's a biased opinion
Cool. Insert a "for me," next to that "but" though.
I agree. But, it's too bad the HO scale brass versions that represents the real-life steam engines can't do this. 0:05. 🙄
WOW. That is one breath-taking machine!!
"Breath taking" . . . . . Exactly.
