Loved that episode of Xmen where Gladiator was completely unfazed by an attack from Juggernaut, then proceded to casually throw Juggernaut a few miles away.
Sorry, but you completely forgot to talk about Gladiator's powers being psionic in nature, fueled by his confidence. This is why weaker characters like Gambit and Cannonball can and have actually hurt him. All you have to do is psych Gladiator out, get inside his head, shake his self confidence, throw him off his game, then you can beat him.
Thank you for mentioning it, but from watching almost every video, explained has put up, the writing for gladiator is downright awful and almost every story I’ve read, in fact I can’t name a story that accurately depicts it that they’ve covered in recent memory.
@@briannorris8095 Yes, Gladiator has been poorly written. Usually he's used as a side character or guest star. He really needs a revamp, and his own series. But just like Superman, most writers don't know how to write stories with vastly powerful characters. So, what do they do for drama? Usually under power or de-power the character in order to create drama. Remember the series Smallville? They had over 200 episodes and probably used Kryptonite in 150 of those episodes. Lazy writing.
Is but just because his powers are psionic in nature doesn't mean it reduces him to Spiderman like levels. Before the power boost he was crazy powerful so if anything it would just catch him off guard or embarrass him some and not be significantly hurt or knockout by the likes of cannonball or gambit.
I'm so glad someone else knew this so i didn't have to write a lengthy explanation along with the definition of being "psyched out" and how that can dramatically reduce one's abilities for just long enough for lesser characters to get that cheap knockout shot in.
What you left out, his power level is dependent on his confidence in himself. If he's feeling a little off, he can drop in power drastically. If he doubts himself or his abilities, he weakens to the point he can lose to Spider-Man, and he did once.
I just posted here about that before reading this. Thank you. I thought I was making things up in my head. This is how Gambit was able to pull off the 52 card shuffle back in the 90s
I've always loved this character, obviously because I grew up in the 90s and saw this dude one shot punching the Juggernaut the way he did in the X-Men animated series.
@@SuperShanko they're not ripoffs like Hyperion though. They have more than enough originality to be their own character. They definitely take inspiration, but we Gladiator and Sentry fans draw the line at calling them Knockoffs and Ripoffs
I love this character. He is definitely over looked by writers because I feel they wouldn't even know where to put him because he is that powerful. Such an awesome badass who not only needs to be seen more in comics, give him his own series.
I love the character, but I highly doubt a series of his own would do well. The shows have to appeal to the masses to be worth making and airing, and sadly the Shi'ar Empire is only a small (but important) faction of the X-Men series that wouldn't get much attraction
Another Superman-like moment for Gladiator happened during John Byrne's run on the FF, where Gladiator lifted the Baxter Building several feet of the ground by grabbing it by a corner of the building. This is something that Golden Age Superman has been known to do- not only that but it plays into another ability that Byrne gave to the remodeled Superman (and also Superboy IIRC)- tactile telekinesis. This ability implied that Superman's strength was not merely entirely physical but to a certain degree psychic.
Tactile telekinesis is mostly just a means of explaining away the artists failing to portray realistic physics associated with Superman lifting heavy objects. Most of the time, the objects should break under their own weight, but that's a lot harder to illustrate, so they made up the tactile telekinesis/protective aura thing. Also used to explain how he can catch people at high speed without killing them instantly.
Yes I was waiting for that. So if he says he can pick up a mountain, he will do it. But while holding it if he thinks he might drop it, he will. It's an interesting weakness but yah, he's pretty cool.
Interesting, if he's expecting someone weaker such as Reed and he knows he can beat him, being hit by someone much stronger would catch him off guard and make him lose confidence. Never heard of this story.
Hey Rob, Kallark's my second favorite (Black Panther) character in the Marvel Universe, and has been since the 90s. He's well beyond Omega level. Full stop. It would be like saying Sentry isn't beyond Omega because of inconsistencies. :) Love your channel. RIP Comicstorian (Ben Potter).
I liked the John Byrne interpretation better than the later “confidence“ sort of power. When Reed Richards said he was using technology, future writers could’ve taken that anywhere and including with having power similar to Apokalypse. The only problem that I have with how the characters been depicted as him losing two characters like nova and other insanity
I pretty much prefer Byrne/Claremont's interpretation of everything compared to more modern story telling. Carol Danvers/Binary, Wolverine, Storm...honestly just everyone in the X-universe. The Claremont/Byrne duo just brought these characters together with gorgeous art and the perfect balance of storytelling. Any X-men issue you picked from their run could be decently understood by new readers while also having a deep and complex story weaving through long arcs involving years worth of comics. Of course Byrne and Claremont do Gladiator the best. Byrne also went on to do my favorite superman comics of all time. His art was able to portray the sheer power of the characters so well. The weight with which characters like Superman and Gladiator punch and fight makes these absurd fights more impactful and grounded in some sort of reality by giving their actions a weight in the art.
It kinda was technology related with the gladiator process he went through when they enhanced him. Although they never talked about it back in the day, until he was in the fantastic four comic lifting the Baxter building.
Nova Prime beats Gladiator every day of the week. Kallark was not winning that fight unless you're referring to Nova before he became Nova Prime, in which case Gladiator was the one who won that fight.
I’m watching this video because I just saw Gladiator get punched in the chest by Juggernaut without even bothering to block it. The punch didn’t move Gladiator AT ALL. And he responds by picking up Juggernaut by the arm like a child and throwing him away like he was driving, hated the cheeseburger he was eating, and tossed it out the window 😦😦😦
The best superhero ever my favorite superhero really love the shi’ar I really love his costume very iconic and I love how he got a mohawk so crazy I love it and I love the concept of the shi’ar Imperial guard 😁

I was introduced to Gladiator via the War of Kings storyline, then the Annihilators comic. Such an awesome book, and an awesome character. I realize that a group of the strongest hitters in the marvel universe can't go on for long, but damn was it fun.
Totally agree with you Rob, Gladiator is definitely one of the most underrated superheroes in Marvel and I can't believe why since he's almost a mimic of Superman I'm almost baffled by this but will always be grateful to see Gladiator do his thing.
I always felt like Gladiator spends way too much time in the background floating around for a character that is the leader of his own team. He kinda reminds me of when people fart and call it silent but deadly. Gladiator is always silent but hes the deadliest in the room.
Gladiator still wins more than he loses tho. He's beaten the ff, three different thors,Thanos, nova twice, Hyperion, Vulcan, the x-men, and more. He's one of the strongest marvel characters out there.
I love Gladiator and that Marvel treat him as a sort of Superman without the moral compass approach, unfortunately characters of this power level sometimes don’t get the most interesting stories simply because they are so powerful that it’s difficult for some writers to use them effectively
I Agree With You! 100% But In My Oppinion. He Can't Defeat Or Even Come Close In Defeating Thor Or Even The Silver Surfer. 🤔 Would Be Nice To See An Issue Wich We See Gladiator Battle The Worthy One.😅
I also heard that he gets physically stronger the more ego/confidence he has in a fight. Basically if he thinks he’s gonna win he’ll grow in power until he wins.
He's written inconsistently because his power is largely based on his mental state. Sort of like how Superman is mostly limited by his self-restraint, Gladiator is limited by his self-confidence. If he doesn't think he's strong enough to do something, or if he's just having an off day, he's substantially weaker.
Ehhh it'd make sense if it happened to new characters he hasn't fought but when he loses to a character he's easily beaten before it comes off as cheap
I love gladiator. Remember the X-Man cartoon, there was an episode when the juggernaut had captured Queen lalandra and gladiator came, jugging out punch them in the chest and gladiator didn't budge. He picked up Juggernaut and threw him so hard the water parted
It’s not just the inconsistent writing, but also that his powers wax and wane off his belief on himself. Do you remember when he crossed the known galaxy in less time than it took Heimdal to blink? That was because his Gods, the being in which his entire empire followed, tasked HIM to collect Thor. If you can make him doubt himself, even a little bit, it can lead to him, quickly, being overpowered by a lesser foe.
Its bullshit writing. It's called a stepping stone. Remember Marvel vs. DC snd fans voted for SUPERMAN to beat the HULK. So right after Marvel was pissy because fans voted for Superman so they made the Hulk vs Gladiator because hes like Superman and had the Hulk win. That's the bullshit Gladiator deals with. If I can bench press 300 pounds and lose confidence I shouldn't be able to bench just 50 pounds. Confidence should only go as low as his base POWER. Gladiator would easily kill the Hulk if he wanted. Damn them writers
You forgot to mention about his confidence and will power. The more he believes he can do something he does it! Kinda like how the angrier hulk gets the more powerful he becomes.
My favourite feat of his is when appeared right in front of Heimdall out of nowhere. Heimdall the all-seeing didn’t see him from miles away 😀😀😀😀😀. Then proceeds to wreck the asgardian (off panel though).
My fan cast for Gladiator is actually The Rock. Just think about it, he gets more powerful the more confident he is. Let’s see how Black Adam turns out first tho
Also love the video, but wanted to add his power level are reflective on his confidence. The more confident he is the more powerful he is. However the less confident he is the weaker he gets. Which shows why psychic/psyching him out, is pretty effective on him.
He is really awesome I love this superhero I think he’s just too powerful for the MCU he will literally all the characters if he was in the MCU love this character
i imagine deadpool would beat him mainly by just humiliating him with various pranks and trying to outlast until he can get a solid fatal shot in, since if i recall his strength tied to his confidence
That catching a round from a sniper rifle feat was crazy, he saw it and was thinking about whether he should stop it or not before he caught it. He didn't even rush to catch it.

I think the issue is many that Gladiator's feats happen off panel instead of on panel, so people don't have a true sense of how strong he is because we haven't physically seen him crush a star.
Out of all the Superman clones and every single universe, I love Supreme, there's lots of cool fights in his comics. I grew up reading dark horse and image more so than marvel and DC because my older brother was more interested in the darker and grittier stuff so my first two comic series were Supreme and Pitt. Thank you for putting this video out, gladiator is for sure overlooked all the time.
Also gotta poin t of he one punched Thanos...granted he was sick and dying but atthe same time, he fought off a bunch of heroes prior to Gladiator arriving and the minute he did, he knocked Thanos out.
I didn’t know a lot about Gladiator before this video but I thought he was definitely omega level, after learning this I think he’s definitely beyond omega level. Just the fact that he stood toe to toe against the phoenix force is enough for me
@@wulaeofthetengu8336 If you're focusing on having the most OP heroes, then remove Ghost Rider and Hulk and add X-Man, Doop and anybody with the Phoenix Force or Uni-Power. Now you have all the most OP heroes.
Gladiator is an absolute beast. I’ve been a fan of the character since the very early 90’s. You should’ve mentioned what he did to the Juggernaut in the xmen cartoon. Hopefully they do him justice in the MCU. I still say he should be played by the Rock
It was written that Gladiator’s confidence heightens his abilities… but any hint of self-doubt, his powers begin to dwindle. One of my top 10 favorite characters from Marvel Comics.
People do sleep on gladiator. I liked him from the moment I saw him toss the juggernaut like a potatoe chip in the 90s xmen cartoon back in the day when it came on for Saturday morning cartoons.
In Walt Simonson's FF run, the FF, Thor, and Iron Man were using a Time Sled to travel through space with time stopped. Gladiator was able to speed himself up enough to keep up with them.
Gladiator is THE most inconsistently written character in all of Marvel comics. He's a beast. And should be portrayed that way. Do NOT sleep on Gladiator.
He is beyond omega level! I was so upset when he was defeated by Cannonball in an issue of Uncanny X-Men during the mid to late 90s. He is one of my faves indeed!!!
Agreed, he's definitely beyond omega especially if the facet of his powers rising with confidence are displayed. Gladiator suffers along with The Sentry with inconsistency due to the fact they're too powerful. If The sentry were written as his potential allows, he the apex in power.
Loved that episode of Xmen where Gladiator was completely unfazed by an attack from Juggernaut, then proceded to casually throw Juggernaut a few miles away.
😂 he picked up juggernaut and threw him to another island classic X-Men the animated series

You see Supreme vs. Gladiator book
Just the fact that he stood toe to toe against the phoenix force is enough for me
When I was a child, I had a Gladiator action figure. Nothing cooler then a Superman with a touch of Mr.T.
But you forgot to mention if he is not confident his powers goes down drastically
and if he is confident his powers goes up drastically
I love a Good Marvel Superman: Blue Marvel (who needs a great comeback story), Hyperion, Gladiator, Sentry.
Blue marvel is my personal favorite.
Blue Marvel and The Sentry should do a team up story with Thor, Hulk, Ghost Rider, Black Bolt, and Silver Surfer.
@@wulaeofthetengu8336 that would be incredible.
@@jonathanathor117 Same here!!!
I never knew he was this strong Jesus him, blue marvel, sentry need some more shine tbh we need more about these characters
It was written that Gladiator’s confidence heightens his abilities… but any hint of self-doubt, his powers begin to dwindle.
One of my top 10 favorite characters from Marvel Comics.
"The Gladiator Corps?"
That'd Be Super! Lol
Yes!!!!! Bout time! Let’s do a respect video for Kallark!
rob droppin like crazyyyyyy
Agreed, he's definitely beyond omega especially if the facet of his powers rising with confidence are displayed. Gladiator suffers along with The Sentry with inconsistency due to the fact they're too powerful. If The sentry were written as his potential allows, he the apex in power.
Oooooooh new pfp I'm loving it rob
I've only seen him twice in comics back in the day.....
He's definitely "Beyond" Omega Level......imo....
