The whole build up of the uchiha clan from madara leaving the village before the first shinobi war to the kyuubi attack was so good that itachi's arc felt like another anime entirely. I loved everything about it, it was here where we witnessed a different side of the shinobi world and the leaf village, the grandfatherly image we had of sarutobi hiruzen the third hokage and the peaceful facade of konoha was forever destroyed. And of course we learned what a true shinobi is.
It made me so happy when sasuke acknowledged what itachi did and tried to destroy the leaf. It’s not that he was going to destroy the leaf villlage but that he understands what itachi went through for him
