Itachi's pain would endure far after he had killed his clan. While their pain would be over the instant they were killed. The pain of doing an unspeakable act, for the greater good is a paradox. Knowing it's bad. But also knowing that it needed to be done for the continuation of the well-being of the village. A good person forced to make an impossible choice. That was the burden Itachi had to bear for doing what needed to be done

But that same village would never welcome him again and want him dead. He had no friends or anyone to keep him up the way kakashi did. He went down a traitor in history so, not even close.
Itachi suffered a lot without uttering a single word .....
When Kakashi became hokage he did a lot to change the way Itachi was remembered, including a statue of him near the Konoha graveyard. The plaque on the statue said "The child who sacrificed himself to solve adult problems". Google the phrase and set it to images, you will see

When Naruto Ended, first re-watched best fights, then fillers started looking great, then finally searched for these types of moments where great quotes are said because you finally understand what they meant and how much impact it has pm human life. That's the growth this anime gives to its viewers. Actions might be out of league, but words, they are of another dimension. Best anime of my collection.

The whole build up of the uchiha clan from madara leaving the village before the first shinobi war to the kyuubi attack was so good that itachi's arc felt like another anime entirely. I loved everything about it, it was here where we witnessed a different side of the shinobi world and the leaf village, the grandfatherly image we had of sarutobi hiruzen the third hokage and the peaceful facade of konoha was forever destroyed. And of course we learned what a true shinobi is.
