Not hating on ya Parker but.. 1- the sub can be inverted just like any other sub so long as the cut out hole is bigger than the foam surround. 2- your sub box and box tune give you your playable bandwidth so if a sub doesn't play lows well then it's likely your box or amp tune or even both.. The box also determines the power you can apply to the sub so this is relative. The box also causes box rise and how the sub reacts to thermal rise.. 3- yes the terminals are small and that's why anyone running these subs knows that you remove the factory screw and use copper wire end rings with a hex head or preferrably a Allen head bolts instead of running the wires in the holes. (Yes it cold use a slightly better design) 4- 8 layer coils require longer heat up cool down break in periods just like the DC Audio sub you popped. If you don't do this properly you get gas bubbles between the coil layers and burn out the coil out.. This is why many people prefer subs that have 4 layer coils because they're easier to cure the coil glue during break in and less likely to bubble and pop.. And in all honesty this sub lasting over 2½ min on a test tone with 2500-2700w going to it without the coil being properly cured is a testimonial in itself! 5- the power ratings supplied (2500, 5000, 10,000) are up to 2500w continuous frequency tune, 5000w continuous music and up to 10,000w for a split second burp but again this is HEAVILY dependent on the box/ box tune and corresponds with Hoffmans Iron Laws. 6- Orion was the first to develop this style "pin aligned recone" and kicker copied it when MD Audio went belly up and Sound Pros bought Orion.. So to be technical it's copyright infringement but it's a gray area when the copyrights aren't fully owned by a new company so... I've personally ran 3x of these subs in the 152 model on a HCCA11000.1D with a custom box giving them 4.5 cubes per sub tuned to 32hz and never popped a single one yet not to mention I've scored a 147.38db at 40hz on the glass in my SUV with a single HCCA122 in a custom 3.0 cube 32hz box powered by a Rockford T2500-1bdcp and that single sub didn't pop.. Love your videos man but this one could've been put together just a little better with a proper box, proper coil break in and a few other tweaks, I would've also loved to see a comparison of this sub next to the Kicker copy "Solo X" But in the end, Orion has been recently winning all kinds of competitions including BassWars..
Question(s) the orion152 says 4.5cuft for less than 2kw tuned to 38hz. You seem to have been giving 3kw+- I'm assuming off that 11000.1 at 1.34ohms? How do you get away with a larger box on larger power and still tune lower? Beginner box builder trying to figure out how to understand other than mfg. recommend box size/tuning/ corellation. I get that if I give less power I can make larger box/ more power,smaller box. I can functionally use win isd and understand most of the parameters. Any help would be appreciated thx

B2!B2!B2!B2! That being said.... The Orion HCCA is one of my all-time favorites and I would definitely rock one in my trunk. It's kind of neck and neck with the Orion Hcca B2 rage and kicker solo X.

This really goes to show how great the Def Bonce subs are. They can take RMS rated power in free air without blowing. It really is a BRUTAL test. That’s not putting down the Orion sub at all.
Hell yeah, been wanting to see more of the Beefier subs on the Channel with the Orion HCCA being at the top of that list!!! I remember these being the Cream of the Crop back in the day. Even though the HCCA isn't quite what it was im still thinking heavily about grabbing one for my next build??? Im running a Avatar STU at the moment, but us Bassheads always keep a thought brewing about the Next build or having a Back up system ready to be swapped in in the event something blows. Right now my list comprises of one of these monsters next: Incriminator Death Penalty, Sundown ZV5, Orion HCCA, Deaf bonce 3512R, DD Audio 812F or if i find a enclosure that fits my trunk going up to a Single 15 and grabbing a Avatar SVL. Other sub companies should take notes on those packaging style and all those extras make the end user so much more appreciative when building custom boxes
I have 1 of the 12.4 HCCA. I absolutely love this sub. It came in a custom box that was more of a square shape. I built 1 so it could fit behind my 3rd row seat. It's about 2.6cu ft after displacement. I'm only giving it about 2300 watts. I might have to look into getting a 2nd, now that they're available again. I believe mine is the gen before this one. Still has the black cone (not silver).
I remember back when the modern HCCA subs came out, when Orion tested them against the competition on matching Crown pro-style amplifiers. Always thought those videos were biased, but I have seen how much these beasts can truly handle before giving up the coil. I have the 15" version myself, with the more recent Black Coil recone. 2500 watts RMS, and what a great sounding sub, with amazing control. HCCA might be geared towards SPL, but damn these subs can have great SQ as well. And all I can say is that during the 40 Hz brutal test, the sub sounded like its got clipped power. But it took it like a champ for almost 3 minutes before giving up

I like it but that is more like a 2200rms watt subwoofer. Now a 145db for 1 12" subwoofer is damn amazing. Next try 2 of those subwoofers or a 18" Orion subwoofer. I've never seen a good review on the 18" Orion subwoofer.
The hcca has always been one of those MONSTAH subs I've wanted but I don't do comps and I just build for me now a days. This thing for the price is simply a hammer and waaaaaay more than I want for daily. Good video park as always mah guy!!!. Still to this day my old dark audios were the best sealed system that could actually play 18hz with any volume 😏 that I have built. ....but this thing is making me want to spend some money.
Hey parker, I noticed when you to the spl test you start at a HZ and go up by 5 or 10 and pick out which does better. I would like to recommend using the setting on the SPL meter that measures the peak spl at what frequency and do a 80-20hz sweep at low power and do high power burps at the peak frequency of the cabin. Absoulutely no hate or anything like that, hell i love the content you make and finding very enjoyable and useful but i just wanted to make a reccomendation when it comes to the SPL testing. Love the content and keeping up with the tahoe build and cant wait to see whats to come. Much love from florida brother
If you take the boot off the motor, you can put it in hot water for a while, then put it back on while still hot. I have had to do that multiple times to my 15's.
I have an idea for a 2 piece bolt down ring that goes in the backside of the baffle with beefy nuts welded to it so some nicemachine screw can be used to bolt down subs kinda like the threaded inserts only not into the meat of the mounting surface.
This is what I would like to know, what does this sub really compare to? Also, is there any subs you would recommend over this sub at its price range and power handling? Me personally I have not seen anything with these subs that would really impress me at any audio shows or videos.
Alright that sub used to come with a pole vent heatsink that was glued on and would fail n come off sometimes thru the dust cap. I see this one doesn’t have that pole cap thankfully. Also a friend of mine had one and went over a bad bump and the magnet shifted.
Man is there any way you can do another Trinity audio solutions subwoofer like the TAS-H15. I have an M series but I can't find ts parameters to do response modeling for my box design. The H series lists a 950oz motor with a 4 inch coil for about $700.
The score would be better if the sub wasnt unloading as much. Push the box closer to the hatch itll allow it to load and improve DBs and itll be louder.

Yeah, I don't think he's very good with math or research. Very poorly thought out video of what is one of the baddest subs ever. He literally blew it. The coils are different and call for twice as long break in. If not done correctly, the glue bubbles and doesn't dry correctly. He fucked this sub up
Loudest was a sundown x12 v2 147DB in the seqoia sorry for the spelling, weirdly X12 v3 did a 145DB if i remember correct and american bass xmaxx did a 146.8DB or something crazy like that.
Is that a Q Bomb box? If so, it's 1.6 cu ft Net and 2.16 cu ft Gross. I haven't verified the tuning frequency yet, but its not the claimed 30hz. Definitely higher.

I'd say get the HCCA splx version if u wanna push something. The splx will burp 30,000 watts comfortably. I'll have to look back and watch the other subs that were maxed to failure on free air. Also the SPLX weighs 170 pounds
I had an Audio question if anyone could answer. I recently got a subwoofer box to fit under the backseat of my Chevy Silverado 2500 and order two audio pipe, 10 inch subwoofers and a skar 1200 W amplifier. I just wired the four ohm subs down to one ohm so I can get the 1200 W out of a scar 1200 W amp while doing this I noticed on the box of the wiring kit I ordered also from scar that it says 800 W do I have to buy a different wiring kit? Would it be OK for me just to continue on with the build and use the wiring kit I already have?

IMO, I would trust more a brand who let us see their sub smoke, rather than not smoking. I'm pretty sure that lots of us find it useful to see how hard it can be pushed. If a company thinks that asking not to blow a their sub protects their image, they should know that what it does is, look sketchy and leaves us with the doubt of how hard can we push it, thus increasing the chance that we endup going with the competition, which we'll know how hard can be pushed.
Could you test the Memphis Mini Mojo 8's? We sell them where I work and im curious your opinion. They are supposed to be the best 8's availiable and should take 1000W Rms a piece. I work with a guy who used to sell Sundown and he says they are better than the 8's sundown makes. Im not too big a fan of the folded surround on them though.

I ran orion for like 25 years. That poor sub in such a tiny box! I did 156.4 dB at 33hz with 2 of these 12s with orion hcca 5k amp. Box is the biggest factor for them orions. He would've done easy 148s 149s with one 12 in the right box that's not listed in the manual and no, I'm not giving out my secrets 😉 lol hint the bigger the better 😊 port also helps a ton too. Parker hit me up for some advice.
Why do car subs often have so much mechanical noise? Also i wonder why inside/outside wound coils are not a thing. It's done in the PA world since ages where driver's need to withstand a lot of power for a VERY long time.
😊 you beat me by about 10 minutes first sub recoil ever was 25 minutes and it was those I had to do six of them but question is how many other subwoofers you think would have lasted that long at that hrz with that many watts I think you should do a blow them all weekend (no Diddy)

Yes the voice coil glue “breaks in”. It heats up and cools. Heats up and cools. Heats up and cools. Each time making the glue stronger.
NET volume is directly proportional to tuning frequency.

Under strained SPL speakers have the best SQ control it’s just that no one that buys SPL subs doesn’t push them to max

Use a wire ferrule in there. Anytime i have a screw down type terminal i use a ferrule to prevent damaging the wire.

Loudest was a sundown x12 v2 147DB in the seqoia sorry for the spelling, weirdly X12 v3 did a 145DB if i remember correct and american bass xmaxx did a 146.8DB or something crazy like that.
I think the Sundown X also got a 145 and the EM Audio Team did like a 147. Other than not I can’t think of any 12s this loud
And I thought 146db on my Rockford triple stack of 12s was impressive.

To invert mount you can mount the sub to a ring, then invert the ring. I did the same method with w7s once.
Have you ever tested a B2 sub? Seen a video where the guy used the word "phenomenal" quite a bit reviewing it.

I'd say get the HCCA splx version if u wanna push something. The splx will burp 30,000 watts comfortably.
I'll have to look back and watch the other subs that were maxed to failure on free air. Also the SPLX weighs 170 pounds

I got one in a ground shaker 30hz with a hcca 3k . I actually replaced 2 zvx with 1 hcca same amp. It is definitely a heavy hitter💯
How is that box worth the money
I had an Audio question if anyone could answer. I recently got a subwoofer box to fit under the backseat of my Chevy Silverado 2500 and order two audio pipe, 10 inch subwoofers and a skar 1200 W amplifier. I just wired the four ohm subs down to one ohm so I can get the 1200 W out of a scar 1200 W amp while doing this I noticed on the box of the wiring kit I ordered also from scar that it says 800 W do I have to buy a different wiring kit? Would it be OK for me just to continue on with the build and use the wiring kit I already have?
The hccas were my favorite sub growing up and then I saw the ground zero xmax and it's like a bigger hcca lol they are definitely my dream subs

IMO, I would trust more a brand who let us see their sub smoke, rather than not smoking. I'm pretty sure that lots of us find it useful to see how hard it can be pushed. If a company thinks that asking not to blow a their sub protects their image, they should know that what it does is, look sketchy and leaves us with the doubt of how hard can we push it, thus increasing the chance that we endup going with the competition, which we'll know how hard can be pushed.

Could you test the Memphis Mini Mojo 8's? We sell them where I work and im curious your opinion. They are supposed to be the best 8's availiable and should take 1000W Rms a piece. I work with a guy who used to sell Sundown and he says they are better than the 8's sundown makes. Im not too big a fan of the folded surround on them though.

What SPL meter are you using?
I ran orion for like 25 years. That poor sub in such a tiny box! I did 156.4 dB at 33hz with 2 of these 12s with orion hcca 5k amp. Box is the biggest factor for them orions. He would've done easy 148s 149s with one 12 in the right box that's not listed in the manual and no, I'm not giving out my secrets 😉 lol hint the bigger the better 😊 port also helps a ton too. Parker hit me up for some advice.

Why do car subs often have so much mechanical noise? Also i wonder why inside/outside wound coils are not a thing. It's done in the PA world since ages where driver's need to withstand a lot of power for a VERY long time.

😊 you beat me by about 10 minutes first sub recoil ever was 25 minutes and it was those I had to do six of them but question is how many other subwoofers you think would have lasted that long at that hrz with that many watts I think you should do a blow them all weekend (no Diddy)
