"The whole of Europe, which is more divided than ever..." is it really? I pretty sure we've been more divided than this.
Poorly worded but I believe they were meaning each European nations domestic politics are more divided than ever. Would like to see data to back that up though.
“People in the comments being more nit-picky than ever…”
Lol yeah, it is a hyperbolic figure of speech, but it does feel especially meaningless in this case. Now saying it is the most divided Europe has been since the turn of the millennia? Might be, but definitely not any further back
It is actually left and right are way too far from each other specially on immigration policies.
Yeah, s bit of hyperbole there.

Slovakia trying to split into Slov and Akia now?
Underrated
this seems to be the natural progression of any European state east of Germany, to split in many other balkanized micro states until being swept away by a bigger empire, until this empire crumbles and the process starts over again
I laughed harder than I should of lol
@myxomat00sis Somehow Blessed Karl has returned...
@@myxomat00sisthat's never been a trend in eastern Europe. Only in the Balkans.
On fact, eastern Europe had more united larger countries for a significantly larger portion of history than western Europe.
Eg. Poland was always united and not split into smaller countries. It was conquered non the less.
Eastern Slavs were never split into small states, they were under one another's rule but never split into small states as far back as a milénium ago.
Central Europe always had Great Moravia which was conquered and subsequently split in two parts.
One under HRE, the other under Hungary. They later combined.
Today they are more split than since 1200AD.
The most divided parts of Europe were historically: Spain, HRE (Germany), modern Italy and even Britain

Telling your voters the election is going to be rigged is a great way to get people to vote lmao
From his perspective, it covers both bases. He both encourages his supporters to go and vote and scrutinize the process, and establishes an excuse for any loss. He did it before both 2016 and 2020 extensively.

Why would a government trying to crack down on the free press try to get rid of the government-run broadcaster? It almost seems like they're trying to have less control over the media.
The broadcaster in our country had multiple owners to make sure it's independence, fico said they spread liberal propaganda so he has taken complete control...

Tragic news about it. Appreciate your work. Support Defend Czech Republic Dennis Dillon Czech he excellent friend Thomas. Britain England London rejoin EU again like Italy Republic 🇮🇹🇮🇹. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺
Something similar may happen in Georgia too. Both nations stand in intensive internal struggle between an EU approach or bounding to Russia. Nevertheless for an EU nation, this kind of violence in Slowakia was not expected and not style of modern european states. In Hungary and Serbia the Pro Asian sentiment is much stronger than the Pro Western EU sentiment. So Orban and Viccu may not be in danger from internal radicals.
I don't have a problem with young British people pronouncing "aitch" as "haitch" in general, I know that languages are always changing and that, anyway, it's their language as much as mine, I'm not saying it's wrong; but I've got to say that I find the pronunciation "En Haitch Es" quite startling. I know lots of people who pronounce "aitch" as "haitch", but I'd never heard it used in "NHS" before. I can see that the new pronunciation of the letter name "h" is spreading and is likely going to become the standard one before too long (unless exposure to American English on social media reverses the trend for Gen Z); but I hope the pronunciation of NHS will remain the same, as a kind of linguistic fossil.
And it only took an assassination attempt on Fico for TLDR to get the pronunciation of his name right...
I'm sorry, did she just say "Europe, which is more divided than ever" ?! Lol, we've never been so common in our directions. Be it european integration, foreign policy, and stopping Russia's 1900-style military campaigns (save for the opportunist Orban. More polarised internally, maybe, due to lack of education and authority by arguments, but...we are more united and unidirectional than ever.

@@nikolai7218 who? The natives or French colonists?
I've said this before, and I'll say it again: a candidate for presidency, doesn't matter the party, the politics, the ideology or whatnot, who calls an election rigged before it even happens, should be barred from participating in such an election, period.
It's just a matter of coherence, this doesn't even has to do with politics. It has to do with core principles of democracy. It's not exactly the same, but the analogy serves. Sportsmanship also prevents this, because it's parallel in fair appliance of rules. A team does not get to play if it's calling out the judge, referee, umpire, technical team or whatever for some supposed corruption scheme before the game even happens. The team either presents proof and stops the election before it happens and then corrects it so that a fair game happens, or it doesn't get to participate in the match.
You don't trust the process, and you won't present proof of crime, you can get your sh*t and go home. More than that, you should be punished for the crime of seditious libel. I don't know why these provisions aren't being used to defend the US political system and government in general, but it should.
These concepts are basic for a functioning democracy. The only thing I don't understand, among several others that have already been violated, is how these basic notions can escape a nation that calls itself the greatest democracy in the world, when it's not doing even the basics to protect itself.
The foundations and pillars of a democratic system have been constantly attacked, if not already destroyed, by a group of people who calls themselves a party, but they are actually traitors, saboteurs and criminals violently attacking the established political system in the US.
Ignoring all this and still leaving the doors open for this group is not a normal democratic process, it's giving power to traitors that have already proven and given away all their intentions to topple democracy.
And it's just horrifyingly amazing how this is happening in the supposed richest and most powerful nation in the world. We're just watching how a democracy gets toppled over with zero defensive action in slow motion.
A liberal extremist.
The shooter was pro-Russian.
7:33 Worst segue ever.
A Slovak here. I must say your coverage on the matter was really good. Fico is really the most hate-spreading politician we've ever had. Something as tragic as this to finally happen was just a matter of time. I hope that other people in power with autocratic tendencies will learn from this. You just cannot be killing democracy in your country and polarizing the whole society (among MANY others also giggling while your right-hand man is ranting during a pro-russian protest about the most beloved politician, ms. president Zuzana Čaputová, that she's an "american wh*re) without consequences.
its unfortunate that the attempted assassination usually bolsters political support for the target. Ronald Reagan's popularity wasn't good until someone attempted to kill him. i predict that Fico will get a surge in popularity, and i suspect without evidence that the shooter who has ties to far right groups was a false flag operation.
How is ending state run media Autocratic?
Ironically, your comment sounds very similar to how a “autocratic politician” would say if you just change a few words from your comment. I knew that horseshoe theory is real.

"Gunman who shot Slovakian PM is 71-year-old poet with 'links to pro-Russian paramilitary'" - That should be the primary thing you go with, not saying he did not like the politics of FICO and then mentioning the crackdown on the media. Yeah, you had a 2 sec coverage of him being on the far-right later, but people will latch onto the first thing they hear. Way to help Russia.
Other way around, the linking to the far-right thing is them trying to save face and help Ukraine. The guy was at dozens of pro-Ukraine rallies, the far-right group they talked about ceased to exist years ago and the guy had one meeting with them over a decade ago. They were also a far-right group yes but an anti-Putin far-right group.
@@giantWario Huh, that might be true, we'd need to wait for more info to come out. Either way Russia will spin the motivation as "Pro-Ukrainian terrorist". I asked a person from Slovakia and they said it was more of anti government protests he attended than Pro-UA ones, and that the guy was maybe some anarcist.
Whatever the case is, it causes more problems for the Slovak people which is a shame.
Fico got what he started with being deeply divisive with identity politics.

Not allowing foreigners to vote in a country's election is common sense
Living in a place for 10 years and being a citizen does not make you a foreigner...
But are you there legally?
it is very rare for non-citizens to vote and when they do their votes are immediately discounted. laws like this only make it harder for citizens to vote thus decreasing voter turnout and helping Republicans.
