  • This video is a tour of the DIY 4x4 camper build on my Land Rover Defender 130 off road vehicle.
I did this DIY 4wd camper build to drive from Tasmania to Iceland. Due to circumstances, I am now touring Australia, 4wd'ing this amazing country in my dream 4wd setup.
This video gives a full tour of all the details that went into building the land rover defender 130 overlanding camper that I built from scratch.
If you have any questions about this DIY build or would like me to do a detailed video of the 4x4 camper please let me know in the comments below.

Would love to see start to finish series. I know I would watch every one. You did a fantastic job. This is one of the best builds I have seen .
Most of the builds I see are to complicate and have to much un nessasary junk in them . Thanks for the video, I knew I was not crazy in thinking a camper should be just what you need no more no less. This is what the whole overland camping is to me. Thanks again.

Very cool build. Love the colors inside and out. Bed is genius! Wish you had shown us the mechanism and the garage in back.
I love your toilet, very well made! Always a delight to see someone building their own composting toilets rather than paying price gouging prices to retailers like $1000 for a plastic toilet - ridiculous! You should do a video on how you built it. I want to see the electric fan set up and know if you run it all the time or periodically only, and how much power it takes. Do you stir up the #2 or just layer it with peat moss?
This was a lot of work, great cabinets, good layout. What a fun RV to have! Going off roading is the best.
The low whine of music in the background is hurting my ears. Best not to add music to a demo, DIY, or tour. Even if its not competing with the human voice, music alienates. You get far wider audience appeal without music than with. Silence is golden.

I like the build - It's a nice space - well thought out
Great fridge location (easy from inside and out) & plenty of windows.
Can you comfortably sit and hang out in the seats with the top down - in my ACCC I made sure I could do just that. ( appears that you are about 100 mm shy from comfortably being able to sit upright.
I might have installed a larger door in your rig just to open things up . But that is just because I come from a van with a big sliding door that I enjoy the hell out of. I also just bought an Alu- Cab Canopy Camper which has a big ass door in the rear and very large awnings which opens it up a bunch when you need to hang inside in the rain and the like.

Hey Jess, what you with the Defender camper is very impressive, my compliments! I'm currently building a Defender camper myself, and also I have zero experience. But... The most satisfying thing about the whole build is that eventually, you will pull it off, and the result is even better than you initially thought it would be. Ditch the redarc & buy an enerdrive unit & a 2000w inverter...Enerdrive will take up to 800w of solar. (House panels)...you have the roof realestate to run 800w easily & already have enough lithium to be completely electric...by doing this, all energy will be free. (No gas)

Plus I suppose it brings the build cost down as well as makes it easier to build since you didn’t have to spend hours welding everything together, plus if any panels do get damaged then rather than cutting out the piece and replacing it you could simply un do it and replace it for a fraction of the cost whilst keep its life span to a maximum

Why did you pick a defender? Everyone drives 79’s. Personally I’m glad ya did I’ve been touring Australia for 4 years in a defender 💪🏻👌🏻

Great build, very interesting. What did you use to bond the aluminium and how you find out about it?

"worrying about weight" .... while you are pulling the fridge out in a drawer. For what? The fridge would be happier w/anything around it, because heat causes energy.
Table: Have you weighted the table?
My wild guess, from what I installed in my truck is: at least 15kg for the woodn plate, + the stuff underneath. Make it from Aluminium and you save easy 15kg or more.
