Pre-drilling and pinning the tang before you drill through the handle was genius. I’ve been watching sword & knife making videos for years and this was the first time I’ve seen that technique. Great work!
I use the same technique on air hardened steels , but for plain high carbon you could just take the hardness out of the tang with a propane torch and heat the end of the tang .This allows you to drill straight threw everything.
Another excellent knife showcasing the skills you have been honing to perfection, Dad/Jeff Royer! One of my favorite things about this channel is the whole family working together! Keep them coming.
The Damascus is beautiful. Excellent example of a multi functional knife, nice long blade for long cuts and ergonomic heel you can grip up on for delicate precise cuts. Brilliant video
Shout out to Josh. We see your skills growing too and you put together quality videos for us constantly making this channel possible. I appreciate you for that
I wish I had got a dad like this - somebody who would pass on knowledge, somebody to spend time with, build things with. It's a special thing that unfortunately a lot of people don't get. My dad just lives for himself.
Kyle, your Dad's voice fits beautifully with the background music. Videos like this are a nice counter point to your more energitic ones. I hope he makes more videos as they are very enjoyable to watch.
Wow! This is just stunning craftsmanship! In this case, looks like the tree didn’t grow far from the apple! Also, John, the soothing quality of your voice perfectly matches the soft jazz background music.
Dad videos are great, nice slow speed perfect for relaxing at the end of the week with a dram of wiskey. Maybe have dad in the titles of the videos, since the pace is so different I prefer to watch these videos in the evenings, while Kyle is more upbeat and quick pace perfect to get energy
the energy difference between Kyle and Jeff are tremendously different, I love it. The Asmr/lofi esque vibe Jeff gives off vs Kyle's upbeat almost educational kinda balance each other out
I enjoyed the no-nonsense commentary. Also, the process was interesting, and the pattern on that damascus is pretty dang cool. The finished product is amazing! Thanks for posting.
Having had a beautiful handmade chef's knife, and then Having it stolen most people will never understand the hurt it brings to a chef. Beautiful work sir ! Someone will be very lucky to have this blad in there knife bag.
Beautiful knife Dad, the pattern is outstanding! Not hard to see where Kyle gets his skills from, you are all a very talented family. Keep making these wonderful videos, they are so enjoyable. Regards from Down Under.
It was pure pleasure to watch the whole process of making this masterpiece. This knife looks magical. Thank you master for sharing those magic skills with us.👍💪
Ya Dad!!! Looks like there going to be a little family friendly rivalry to look forward to in the Royer forge. "Excellent" - Mr. Burns voice and hand gesture
Really enjoy all the Royer family videos (and my Knifemaker Plus subscription) but theres something really chill about the Dad videos that make them my favorite. Maybe its because I'm an old guy too lol... Keep up the great work!
What a beautiful knife! I may have said it already, but I'll say it anyway: Regardless of which Royer is working , it's always a pleasure to watch your videos..
You guys should build one together!!! Kyle makes great stuff but he’s way way over the top and your videos are nice and soothing. Just smooth and not abrasive
Jeff, you are using Phosphor Bronze for your tang and pin. Looks amazing, you are going to have learn to spend time in the kitchen to justify this jewel!
Wonderful skill in knife making. I'm surprised at how differently the dad's voice sounds from Kyle's. Kyle is energetic, more high pitched. Dad is just smooth, laid back, like a fine dark chocolate.
Beautiful knife dad Royer, your skill has grown so much.. that journeyman test should be a walk in the park by now, or differently said... i'd pass you with flying colors to say the least ;) It must be special to you, working with your very talented son on all these amazing projects, and growing in doing so. Keep that content coming sir, the Royer name comes with high quality craftmanship for sure.
Pops showing Kyle how it's done 😉. GJ 🙌 Love the smooth music, class at its finest. Side question: is Dad going for a Master Smith? If not he should imo.
The flow of he pattern on the blade profile fits real well. The light plays well on the s-grind. Always see chefs knifes. Would like to see a butchers knife in pattern welded steel.
I hope you guys enjoy this awesome video my Dad made. Kyle will be back at it next week with Part 6 of the Serenity Dagger!
Muito bom !
Nice chef's knife sir
The brass filler pin was a nice little trick 😮
Awesome
Thanks Josh. Really great work on all of these videos. You are blessed my man.
It's very beautiful !!! If it's not a secret what kind of steel And how many sheets did you use? If yes, please write.
Your dad's voice + smooth jazz = lofi blacksmithing 😂
It's a slick vibe 😎
Dad’s voice and narration…perfection
I was trying to find words for this but you nailed it lol
Lofi Blacksmithing! NIce! I get a Ron Swanson Vibe from that. I'm a fan!
Pre-drilling and pinning the tang before you drill through the handle was genius. I’ve been watching sword & knife making videos for years and this was the first time I’ve seen that technique. Great work!
I came to post the same thing! I've never even heard of that! Very smart!
@@T_B I agree! Gonna use that technique on the knife I'm working on now. Never seen it before, but it makes a ton of sense.
Yeah I am absolutely going to steal this idea.
I use the same technique on air hardened steels , but for plain high carbon you could just take the hardness out of the tang with a propane torch and heat the end of the tang .This allows you to drill straight threw everything.
Happy to see dad making a knife again.
Another excellent knife showcasing the skills you have been honing to perfection, Dad/Jeff Royer! One of my favorite things about this channel is the whole family working together! Keep them coming.

I wish I had got a dad like this - somebody who would pass on knowledge, somebody to spend time with, build things with. It's a special thing that unfortunately a lot of people don't get. My dad just lives for himself.
The partridge family of bad ass knife makers. Bravo. Kyle is the king, but dad is my low-key favorite
Kyle, your Dad's voice fits beautifully with the background music. Videos like this are a nice counter point to your more energitic ones. I hope he makes more videos as they are very enjoyable to watch.

You don't master this skill overnight. Beautiful work!👍
For only making knives for 4 years (now 5 because this video is a year old), that's some fantastic work!
I enjoyed the no-nonsense commentary. Also, the process was interesting, and the pattern on that damascus is pretty dang cool. The finished product is amazing! Thanks for posting.
love a fancy chef knife, easily one of the most used and appreciated tools in the house
Having had a beautiful handmade chef's knife, and then Having it stolen most people will never understand the hurt it brings to a chef. Beautiful work sir ! Someone will be very lucky to have this blad in there knife bag.
That's beautiful, Dad!!! Another exquisite piece!
Great idea with the 1/4in brass rod in the tang where the pin will eventually go! Thank you for sharing, beautiful blade!
Kyle, I'm obsessed with your content. Very relaxing 😊
Great work on this one Dad. The pattern Damascus and the brass alloy you made pops. The handle material is very unique too. Go Team Royer!
This Damascus pattern is beautiful. It reminds me very much of an iron cross, which makes it extra cool.
What a voice!!!! And the description.... wow. Kyle you have a competitor
Wow... It's hard to find words that would do justice to that beauty...

Outstanding work once again. Best voice-over in knifemaking :)
The alloy in the tang is a brilliant move. Genius, really.

Pops showing Kyle how it's done 😉. GJ 🙌
Love the smooth music, class at its finest.
Side question: is Dad going for a Master Smith? If not he should imo.
You should be a DJ hosting a late-night jazz station with that voice.
This video was great! Thanks Josh!
What a beautiful piece!
You guys have amazing skills!
For some weird reason I see Kyle jamming on the sax as Dad works. "Kyle cut that out! You're a knife maker not a sax player"
Dude....this is my dream job!!!!! I want to produce beautiful knives.
Your dad has such a soothing voice lol
Hello Mr Dad, nice to see you're skills
The flow of he pattern on the blade profile fits real well. The light plays well on the s-grind. Always see chefs knifes. Would like to see a butchers knife in pattern welded steel.
