This is inspiring! We've got to hold ourselves to the dreams we set out with, because whether we succeed or fail, at least our deeper instincts (often from our younger days when we didn't overthink) have been leading us in a specific direction.
The tricky part is figuring out which of one's boatload of ideas is the least expensive to produce, so we have a higher chance of funding it ourselves rather than relying on federal grants or state grants or bigger companies. As a playwright I've noticed the irony of gatekeeping if producers don't consider your ideas "marketable". They don't know if your idea is ready for an audience! You do! I've made one film, and it got made because I surprised people with how cheaply it could be made compared to a play, which is surreal.
And yeah, the Mean Girls tagline is utterly stupid. Hollywood studios' marketing teams have .. to put it mildly .. dropped the ball on the ability to write effective taglines. Tina Fey herself could probably write an SNL trailer parodying modern musicals, and it would sell her 2024 Mean Girls better. In fact why didn't Paramount make that their plan? Never mind, I know the reason.

Whenever I fly back to Los Angeles, I make sure to make a stop at the Glendale Portos or the one near Disneyland after a day in the park. We also order it through the mail.

Hey there, really enjoy your videos. I just wanted to say that the saying "this is not your mother's..." is usually used when there is an updated version of something that existed before, in this case the original Mean Girls. It usually means don't expect this to feel the same as what came before, it's new and updated. People don't want newer generations to be put off by an older IP so they reassure them by saying "This is not your mother's..." Anyway, just wanted to share that with you. 😊
I think she knows that and while it is a saying, i agree that the original Mean Girls doesn’t seem old enough that the person who watched it is now a mother of a kid old enough to see the new one. Because even tho it’s a saying, it still implies in the literal sense that as a teen, the older version was part of your mother’s generation. But I guess if you watched Mean Girls when you were about 13 and then had a daughter at 18, then your daughter would be 15 now??? But most people aren’t having kids at 18… Anyway, the point being that the marketing for this film was wayyy off. I don’t think they had a clear idea about who it’s actually for. They wanted to make it for the new generation of teens and marketed it that way but their main audience seems to be like 20-30 year olds wanting to relive nostalgia. So I think they kind of did a disservice with this whole “not your mother’s” mean girls because that just offends their main audience. Plus they’re implying that the OG Mean Girls is old fashioned and outdated when I think it’s still a pertinent part of pop culture today

Remember, the people who were in high school when Mean Girls came out could have teenage children! They’re in their mid to late 30s now. I was only like 6 when it came out so I’m glad I don’t have any kids lol
