Welcome to Chao Time. In this episode, I will be reviewing the Rolex GMT Master II with the black ceramic bezel.

The first part of the review will be an objective rating on a standardized rubric. Each aspect or component of the watch will get a grade in the two categories, form and function, using a 1-10 scale. This will give a final score out of 60. Then, I’ll rate the watch in a sort of a wild card category. Brand heritage and prestige, also on a 1-10 scale. This will give a total “raw” score out of 70.
And because I got money on my mind and my mind on my money, I apply a “value” multiplier. It’s a basic and non-scientific equation I formulated that models the diminishing returns of buying more and more expensive watches. Essentially, the more expensive the watch, the lower the multiplier giving cheaper watches the “value” advantage.
And after all that, I give a completely subjective opinion based on my experience, emotions, its character, how I’m feeling that day, because that’s how I make my watch purchasing decisions anyway.

Nice video sir. This has been my daily for nearly six years now. I declined the opportunity to buy the Hulk and the Batman, because this is the watch I liked. As a frequent traveler the GMT function is great. This watch is super versatile too, literally board room to beach, wedding to pool, club lounge or high end hotel. It never feels out of place. Nice channel, good luck!

I've owned the 116710LN for several years and agree with most of your comments except for the polished center links on the bracelet. I like the polished links a lot. Gives this watch a dressy vibe as well as the sporty tool look. And also agree with your comments about the Blue BLNR bezzle. I like the solid black better. I too have a 6.5 inch wrist and forty MM GMT is still doable. Own a couple of 42MM Speedmasters which work also. Liked your video.

Got the watch last week, loving it. It matches outfits better than Batman or Pepsi. Can you believe this thing goes for LESS than a Submariner in my country (Korea)? What hype does to watches!
I can't afford either, but if I could, I would pay more for this than the sub. And yes, this black one can go with any outfit. My perfect two rolexes would be this OR the 39mm explorer AND polar explorer ii 5 digit OR 39mm white dial OP

I have this watch, and I love it. I don't wear it everyday, but when I do, I almost always get a compliment on it. This will be a family heirloom for my son. Thx for the video.

It pulverises the Submariner and looks fantastic on you. I have the same watch and I adore it. Even when I get the call up for a Pepsi on jubilee, the LN will stay in the collection.

Hey , just saw the video, was wondering on the inner clasp (not sure if it’s called), the part where the word Rolex Geneva Swiss Made was written, the one on my grandpa watch was rough steel, heat-blasted (if I’m right) but in the video it’s polished steel
Perhaps it's a different bracelet. I'm not super familiar with the small differences within this reference number.
Awesome video. This is easily my favorite Rolex. Looking to pick one up sooner rather than later as prices are climbing.
The climbing prices are discouraging. It's already at a price that it's increasingly hard to justify picking it up unless my financial situation changes, for example, the TH-cam channel blows up.
I agree with everything you have to say but the heritage and prestige part. It is undeniable that Rolex carries the greatest name recognition in all of the watch industry, including apple. That’s saying something. Prestige, 10 out of 10. Perhaps Rolex’s greatest assets
I agree it's definitely the most recognizable brand. However, I also consider watch enthusiast opinion, and there are lovers and there are haters. This is not a universally loved brand. I like to think that a watch has to be flawless to get a 10. I can see what you're saying though. Is the category was purely about brand visibility, Rolex would be perfect.

Hi Christopher! I think it depends a lot on your collection as a whole. Do you see yourself getting the multiple rolex eventually? If so, is it these two? If I were to only have one black dial /bezel steel sports watch from rolex, I would pick the gmt master. It has more personality with the bit of green. I'm also partial to the gmt complication as a frequent traveler.
@@ChaoTime101 Great outlook! I'm just a fan of the darker colors and I love the GMT complication, but would never wear a pepsi or batman. Seems like the perfect compromise!

I would stick with the sub if only going for a one watch collection. The GMT bezel is just so loud it detracts from the elegant beauty of the dial.
Is 7.5k with no box or papers a good price for this gmt?
What is the condition of the watch? These go for well over $10000 with no box or papers.

In this particular reference, I believe that would be a fake.
Thoughtful review. I agree that the only weak point is the polished center links. Swap it out for a Rubber B perhaps. That or embrace scratches as a wabi sabi thing. Only disagreement: your functionality score was a bit low given your positive subjective feelings about its functionality. These are purpose-driven watches, so I feel your score may have been low. (Or am I missing something?) I look forward to seeing other videos from you.
Thanks! The rubric breaks down how to achieve the various scores. There are multiple function scores, so I don't know which one you mean, but for example, the movement functionality needs to have more complications to score higher. I try not to use my feelings about the watch when scoring, I just stick to the rubric.

I love it!Its my grail watch for a long time and the only regret is i didnt get it sooner!the price shot up in the past few years so im sure that i bought it at a fairly high point.
But for a watch lover,its still totally worth it.

The lume is more green on my watch GMT ll same model. Yours seems more blue.
It definitely has a blue hue to it. I'm not sure, it could be a previous version of lume
I think they changed from the green Superluminova to their proprietary blue-ish Chromalight lume sometime post 2008.

There’s AR on the Cyclops, but not adding an AR coating to the crystal is what makes it look so damn good! 😊 deliberate design choice.
