    Love the Thompson Twins. When they played Columbus, a friend of mine knew the promoter and we met the band, took them to a club for dancing and then out to eat after the bar closed. They were very down to earth, and very friendly; great people. Other songs to check out: In the Name of Love, Lies, Love on Your Side, Doctor, Doctor, and The Gap. Great reaction!

    This was a HUGE hit at the time. Between this song and Eurythmics' "Here Comes the Rain Again" you could basically tune up and down the radio dial and one of those songs would be playing on at least one station. It was glorious madness.

    My Favourite Band when i was a teenage boy " Hold me now " was their biggest hit but they had lots of Top 10 hits here in the UK " Lay your hands on me " , " You take me up " , " King for a day " , " Doctor , Doctor " , " We are Detectives " , " Love on your side " , " sister of Mercy " & " In the name of Love " are just a few of their hits . There is another artist i think you should deep dive and that is Alison Moyet she was the Adele of the 80s & 90s with a powerful voice . She started in the band " Yazoo " and had a couple of hits with them " Nobody's Diary & Don't Go " but her solo career was full of hits including " Invisible " , " All cried Out " , " Whispering your Name " , " Love Letters " , " Is this Love " , " Love Resurrection " , " Windmills of your mind " , " That ole devil called love " & " Weak in the presence of beauty " . One of the UK's Greatest Female singers . 😀😀😀

    Thompson Twins were so amazing. They actually performed with Madonna at Live Aid in 1985.
    As their next song I would recommend "Doctor Doctor!", "King for a Day", "Lay Your Hands on Me" or "The Gap". You really can't go wrong with any one of those.

    Yayyy! 😄 I've loved The Thompson Twins since I was a teen. Got every track, every remix. They are just brilliant in my view. In 1986 Joe (the dark skinned guy) left the band, and by 1993 they wanted to be creating very different music, so they changed the band name to Babble and made two more albums under that name. After that Tom Bailey (the lead singer) called himself International Observer and created further albums on his own. Some of my favourite TT tracks that you might enjoy "Sugar Daddy", "Lay Your Hands On Me", "Groove On" & "Long Goodbye" which is a heartbreaking song about the loss of Alannah's mother plus the loss of her and Tom's baby.

Especially you, with your insightful views and totally on the money comments - i absolutely love your feedback as its always constructive, complimentary and i love the fact you have enjoyed your first try of them as your taste is unpeccable!
    Other reactors only ever only do this one but they had untold hits.
    I would suggest 'Sister Of Mercy', 'You Take Me Up', 'All Fall Out', 'Love On Your Side', 'Lay Your Hands On Me'...

    The Twins were a mainstay of UK pop through the 80s (they did go into the 90s too, but unfortunately didn't enjoy the success).

  • @FeedbackPete1
    @FeedbackPete1 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow more Thompson Twins yes absolutely. Thank you for the reaction. I first heard them in 1983 aged 13 bought my first TT record at 14 now aged 52 still a massive fan. This was written after Tom and Alannah from the band had a huge argument and it was about making up afterwards. You touched on the bass line. True story a guy heard Tom sitting in the corridor of a Scottish radio station playing that bass line and he immediately knew it was going to be a hit.
    Hold Me Now is their biggest hit. Which songs next. Thing about Thompson Twins is they changed a lot musically over the years. They originally started off as a 5 then 7 piece new wave guitar band. So if you listened to their early tracks their very different. Such as Make Believe. There’s some video footage of that. Lay Your Hands On Me from 85 is great and is when the record company were looking for a song that was like another Hold Me Now. King For A Day is very catchy and sugary. Don’t Mess With Dr Dream is an anti heroine song. Really worth checking out is Nothing In Common when they became a duo because Tom Hank’s is in the video.

    • @FeedbackPete1

    Good follow ups would be "Lies, Lies, Lies," "If You Were Here," "King For A Day," and "You Take Me Up." They also had an electronica side project called Babble. A favorite from those albums is "The Circle."

  • @Marcus-Oh-really-yes
    @Marcus-Oh-really-yes ปีที่แล้ว

    Great trio. They also had hits with "Doctor, Doctor" and "Lay Your Hands on Me" and "Lies." As others may have already pointed out, they got their name from a popular Belgian comic strip (translated into many languages other than French) called "The Adventures of Tintin," about a young reporter named Tintin and his dog Snowy. Two of the recurring characters are bumbling, fumbling look-alike cops named Thompson and Thomson (no relation but similar-looking names, too :-) ).

    I am not sure why this video was recommended to me, but I’m glad it was. I LOVED the Thompson Twins (I was about 8 years old in 1984 when they were most popular). This was my most favorite song of theirs. I’m sure others have made recommendations to you, but King for a Day, Lies, and Doctor Doctor are some other amazing songs of theirs. So happy you enjoyed this!

  • @tristramcoffin926
    @tristramcoffin926 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This was a big hit in the early 80s. I loved it but admit I never bought the album. I think they made more albums but they never reached these heights. Whimsical is a good word for this, though. I love the caribbean percussion that isn't quite reggae but compliments a pop song so well here. Also, I still want that woman's hat. That thing is awesome
    Hope you are still considering a Mew reaction. If the first side of the Kites album is too much for starters maybe a good dip of your toe in the water is Am I Wry? No. That is the opening song of their previous album.

  • @Tyedigh
    @Tyedigh ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I really enjoyed their music as simple as some of the tracks seem to be. In the 90s 2 members of the group created a very whimsical project called Babble.

    One of my favourite ever 80's tracks, always comes on in my drunk Kitchen discos. A rather under rated group with some other great tunes too. I was 10 when this one came out originally in 1983 and played it on repeat. Later on, I came out too! Much love from the U.K. Oh and you should do some reactions to 80's British group Five Star. They were dubbed the British Jacksons...kind of! They were all brothers and sisters too. I was a HUGE fan of them.

    @Scary__fun ปีที่แล้ว

    It's funny you describe them as having something "whimsical" about them.... their name is taken from the Tintin comic books that are very popular in Europe. There are a pair of detectives named Thomson and Thompson who aren't really twins. Some of their songs do have humorous aspects to them like "We Are Detective" and "Watching". Plus, you can hear various different rhythmic instruments provided by Alannah and Joe like congas and xylophone along with Tom's funky bass.
