Good Reaction, as always, Jayy and over 78,000 Subscribers! Go, Girl!
The Thompson Twins from Sheffield in The North Of England had many UK hits in The 1980s.
ps: One slight thing I would change, especially as the screen is so small is that the flowers surrounding the frame just need to move to the right a little bit as they were blocking half of the screen.

Thompson Twins ruled the radio in the 80s! "Hold Me Now" "Doctor, Doctor!" "King For a Day" "You Take Me Up" "Lay Your Hands On Me" and many others. Their sound is totally unique!

This was another beautiful song coming from the 80's. The best and brightest artists came from this era and this band is no exception. Thompson Twins was part of the British invasion of the music scene during that time.

  • @WineSippingCowboy

This is the most famous song of The Thompson Twins.🇬🇧 Great ballad! 😃 Produced by the late Alex Sadkin.
The next year, TT hired Nile Rodgers to produce the next album Into the Gap.
Foreigner hired lead singer Tom Bailey to play keyboards on I Want to Know What Love Is.
In Live Aid, TT played this with Nile Rodgers on guitar.
RIP Alex Sadkin. He passed away in a car accident in The Bahamas 4 years after this recording. 🇺🇲

I had such a crush on Tom Bailey, probably after hearing this very song.
My friend and I saw The Thompson Twins at the NEC in Birmingham when we were 17. I'm only 5 feet tall and my friend is even smaller, so we could barely see the stage with so many taller people in front of us.
Well, a couple of kind security men took pity on us - they took us from the middle of the crowd, through the barriers, and right up to the edge of the stage! Tom came over and sang to us - my smile was so wide that my cheeks ached by the end of the night :D

They were pretty much written off as just a catchy 80’s new wave band but I remember when the single “Lies” came out. It was like nothing else at the time. They were truly innovative and underrated.

The one and only time that I bunked off school was to see Howard Jones at a local record shop. Then, he didn't turn up because he got invited onto TOTP at the last minute. :D

This was never my kind of music at the time as i was a complete metalhead, but i know and knew a good song when it crossed my ears. There were a bunch of good songs coming out in many different styles of music, and they've held up well in time

    • @prodigal71
      @prodigal71 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Same here...I was 12-13 at the time & I wouldn't let my "metal friends" know I still listened to pop music....at least the really GOOD stuff & this is just so good.
NOW I'm just a MUSIC fan...if it's good & it moves me, I'll listen to it. Ah, the joys of being 50

A classic 80's hit! Suggestions for more like this; Fine Young Cannibals' "SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY" and "GOOD THING", Tears For Fears' "EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD" and "HEAD OVER HEELS" (always select the Official Music Video). I'm in my mid-60's and find myself reminiscing about music from the 80's more and more.

Hey, Jayy!! It's funny you talked about arguments because that was precisely the inspiration behind Hold Me Now. Tom Bailey, the lead singer and main composer of the band, wrote Hold Me Now after an argument with her girlfriend at the time, who is the girl who played the percussion and the marimba in the video. Her name is Alannah Currie. They eventually got married back in 1991, moved to New Zealand (where Alannah is originally from), had children and unfortunately they are no longer together since the early 2000's. 2003 or so if I'm not mistaken. However, this is a great band and yes there are many other songs worth checking out: Lies, Love on Your Side, Lay Your Hands on Me, King for a Day, Don't Mess with Doctor Dream, Sugar Daddy, just to name a few.

They actually took their name from The European Comic Strip Rin Tin Tin where the Main Character had some Friends who were Detectives known as The Thompson Twins. It has the same following that Archie does in North America. Alot of Groups weren't actually "Related". The Righteous Brothers aren't Brothers and only Sylvester Stewart's Sister was related to him in Sly & The Family Stone. In the 1980's they were one of many Groups who helped epitomize the Second Wave of the British Invasion. From 1983-1986 there wasn't a Group from England, Australia, Sweden and Norway who didn't own the Charts.
