Don't really get why people are so quick to bash "Sony color science"..it has definitely gotten better over time..haha this topic of "color science"..Canon, Fuji, Sony..etc..its all relative..the way I see it..if you spend time and become a good "editor" you can easily match or come close to other "brands" color science..and find what you like and being able to convey your intentions with your photo....being a good editor is as important as the creative part of photography and the art in general..

Look absolutely amazing. I'm pretty jealous of how gentle the light seems. I live in Australia and it is just savage half the time so you get really harsh brights and deep shadows. The colours end up super saturated which looks incredible sometimes but it is a little unforgiving (because I'm not very skilled). I only see light like this on overcast days where everything just looks a bit drab.
A real and honest review of the camera is so refreshing, and of course the color grading and photos are incredible!!! Love everything you're doing, glad to see you aren't stopping anytime soon with youtube :)
Glad you enjoyed it! Honesty only on this channel 🫡. Really appreciate your support and for taking the time to tune in. Very encouraging to get feedback like that. Thank you!
I was pretty excited about all the old cars that day! Very fun to shoot. I’d probably agree that the Fuji is easier to get better colors, even when the results can end up being the same with a bit more time on the Sony. So there’s a value in that, for sure.
Another great video, some sweet locations loved all the old cars and workshops but all of it was so well captured. Nice get out to explore these areas through your lens! Thanks!
Do you think I'm best with this camera? I film airports from afar so planes are moving pretty slow such as hong Kong airport. I'm m moving from a broken a7siii (maybe I'll repair it if its cheap to do as i think something is broke which made me have to turn off and on fast to get around the camera error, once around it, ot would record wothout mich stabilization, lens stability was ok. I think ot may be nice to film 8K but dont want to waste a lot on the A1 so maybe this is good enough
The cars!!! Omg! I’m working on a project/photo book and those oldies would be perfect. I’m actually considering a drive down there just to photograph them 🤓.
A7CR super compact with some of small primes 24mm, 35mm etc almost pancake lenses, this probably as small as fuji x100, just found your videos and just love your content, please continue make more, superb........
Far out man, this whole video and every aspect of it is sooo aesthetically pleasing 👏🏼 I have the Sony A7RV and clearly have no idea how to use it to get images like this 😂
I really enjoyed this. I lived in Newport for quite a few years before moving to Patagonia, and have been to each of these small towns. The footage and images looked fantastic. As always great colors!
I just broke my fx3, so... I'm gonna try and see if my A7RV can keep up. Excited to get going with it and see if I can just stay within one system for the work I do.
I think my favorite thing to do 35mm ff cameras is to use the brenizer thingy and shoot like 9-15 photos to make an image loom like its been shot on a 6 by 7, 6 by 9 camera. Full frame medium format still. GOD I MISS PHOTOGRAPHY
I'm pretty new to video work - is the pro mist enough for stopping down to lower your shutter speed? Or do you have to use an ND and the pro mist together? I feel like it would be hard to hit the 1/50th @ 24fps with the sunlight you had on this trip? Beautiful work as always - really enjoy listening to your process.
Hey, thanks for the love! To answer your question - no, the pro mist lowers contrast a tiny bit but not exposure. I used a 1-5 stop variable ND filter for the video and removed it while shooting photos.
Nice calming trip to abandoned buildings. Love the vegetation growing though cars. One observation is that no company can make a camera or product that satisfies everybody. Some scream when there is no super flippy screen, others scream because there is a super flippy screen. So many crybabies. But at least the sensible can make a choice. For me, the a6700 more than fits the bill of a do everything camera. I'm almost ready to jump back to my Nikon F2 and FE2 except for the prices of film and getting back to working with chemicals. That was for last century.
Thanks for making this. I miss simple videos like this. I love my A7RV. It does everything I need it to do really well. I'm cautiously optimistic that Sony will add the ability to load LUTs, dynamic stabilization from the ZV-E1, and aspect markers from the A7CII/A7CR. I've been a Pro Mist user for years, but thinking of switching to Glimmer Glass or something else that doesn't lose out on contrast as much as the PM.
Really glad you enjoyed it! Cool to hear you’re enjoying the A7RV, I had the mk III back in the day and it got me through a lot of gigs, so I can only say I’ve had positive experiences with the Sony bodies overall. My A7SIII would sure benefit from those updates 😂

Either are great - really this decision is about whether you shoot client work or projects that require a superior video camera with very high slow motion performance or do you require a superior photography camera? There is no absolute best choice for both sides in my opinion.
Loving your Apollo and Adams in the background! :D. Looking to possibly upgrade my A7IV for the A7RV... primarily to get the reach I'm looking for in Crop Mode. Also looking into the X-H2... such a great eco-system for our whole family. Thoughts on the X-T5 AF vs. the Sony? Thanks for the review! Edit: Just saw your section of the X100V shots... they were beautiful. What would you miss most of only using an X-T5 (X-H2)?

@@DylanSpitz thanks for the prompt response. I think the only two things I would enjoy is being able to crop more in post and the tilt screen, but for another $1700 or so after tax not sure if that’s worth it.
Yes, you can stack them! (thread one into the other). If you do more than two, you might want to get a filter with a larger diameter than your lens and use step up rings to avoid vignetting.

It is pretty easy to match them, but the RV definitely has more noise at base iso in slog3 because of its higher mp sensor. If you have plenty of light it’s not an issue, but worth noting for lower light situations. It also seems to have a bit different color science - leaning more magenta than the SIII, which I actually don’t like. Detail wise, there’s no real-world difference to me. looks an amazing camera as for putting filters on Sony lenses to soften them up , really makes me giggle.. just buy a samyang lens you get amazing rendering without a filter 😎
Haha, I understand where you're coming from. My mindset is: have the clinical sharpness because some of my client work requires it, then reduce it for character when I have the creative freedom to do so.
I agree with the colors not mattering especially if you shoot raw, I say the same thing. I will say though, it really becomes an issue when you try to push colors with the video files and the 8bit really starts to show it's downfall.
@@DylanSpitz Oh damn nice! A lot of that is your excellent color grading but the fact that I couldn't really tell if it was the A7SIII or that kinda tells me that would be more than good enough for what I want to do. Thanks!

I had the RIV and sold it due to the colour science believe it or not. It was always an uphill battle in Lightroom with the raw images, I’d get weird colour shifts and apparently I’m not alone in this. My A7 IV is great, almost Canon ish.
I am selling my a7iv to upgrade to the a7cii. So sad Sony is not giving firmware updates:(
3 months since you uploaded this and still no grading tutorial...The universe testing me it seems. Hmm..
The universe works in mysterious ways 😅
