Why I stopped buying DeWalt and moved to Ryobi and I couldn't be happier! 1996 is critical for Ryobi

  • Since some folks are offended by Ryobi tools, to the point it makes some puke, I have decided to tell my story around my ownership of my last batch of DeWalt tools. I know my experience is my own and is not what everyone else has experienced, but that is the joy of having multiple companies to pick from. Regardless of which tool brand you are loyal to this is still a great video going over the true benefit of Ryobi going all the way back to 1996!

DIY here. I have all colors. I buy what works best for my needs. So its "Red", "Yellow", "Green", "Teal", and "Blue".

I received some hand-me-down Ryobi tools and DeWalt tools from my mom. I don't have a full set of tools in either brand, so I have to make a choice.
It all clicked when you said, "If I'm spending $800 on a tool, I have to take real good care of it. If a Ryobi gets wrecked, toss it."
I work on music festival grounds frequently. I often share my tools with the people I'm working with. I don't want to give someone any single items that I paid $800 for.
    Ryobi it is!

That is great that your mom gave you some tools and a great thing for a parent/loved one to do!
I am very similar to you when it comes to sharing tools, for a while I would frequently go to track days with my motorcycle. I built a specific tool box kit with inexpensive but good quality tools and if someone had to borrow a tool then I didn't have to stress, if it didn't come back or got broken then 'oh well, at least it was cheap'.

I like that you use what works...I do the same. I have a little of each brand...

I couldn't agree more! I have a tone of various tool brands, nothing is too good or too cheap for my needs....if it works, it works! Thank you for watching and commenting.

I used the basic brushless Hamer drill to stir 15 bags of concrete and it's now worn down yes but still going the only issue I've ever had was the first gen 18v brushless 10inch chainsaw used it a couple minutes and it was just dead it will not work but switched it out for the 16inch 40v most of the people that talk bad about Ryobi are the die hard fans of higher end brands lived the video thanks

WOW! That is really pushing a battery powered drill to stir bags of concrete, nice that it held up! One of my tools that I had a problem with was the 18v chainsaw. I was cutting old rotten oak branches with a brand new chain and it burned up the motor. It is actually one of my items I would not recommend in the 18v range. I did end up buying a replacement motor and fixed it back up. Afterwards I too purchased a 40v and haven't touched the 18v since. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Dewalt makes a converter kit so you can use your old Dewalt tools with their newer batteries..It actually works very well..😮

Glad to know they came out with one. I know when I first bought the 20V it was not shown anywhere that I purchased Dewalt. Thank you for watching and commenting!

My father is a handy person, and as a result, I am a handy person. He's been a fan of Ryobi tools since the blue color scheme. I think the only tool we have left in that colorway is a flashlight (which uses the modern battery packs just fine). We are both engineers and we both agree that Ryobi doesn't really make the best tools. However, I think their battery system is very robust; maybe the strongest characteristic of their ecosystem. Additionally, we both view power tools as 'semi-consumable'; power tools wear out. The previous adage of 'buy once, buy for life' really only applies to hand tools. So as a non-professional/home diy'er, we agree we rather buy 3-4 generations of the same Ryobi tool than a single Festool; tools are newer longer, they get incremental upgrades/features across generations and most importantly, will use the same batteries.

I've used Ryobi since the blue days and have tried other brands along the way. The sheer volume of unique tools Ryobi makes really makes it tough to move away from them and they keep making better tools as time has gone on. When I go camping, I have two of Ryobi's battery powered bug zappers and they are fantastic. I frequently use a Ryobi air pump to inflate tires and inflatables and also use their 40 Volt line for tree trimmers and a really great battery chainsaw.

I too love the amount of variety that Ryobi has come out with! The bug zappers are great, we actually have one plugged into my 3D printed power supply adapter and run it virtually non-stop. Since you are doing camping I also love their small 150watt power source that has both USB and 120v outlet. We used it during a major power outage to raise/lower my mom's elderly powered recliner and it worked great! The 18v air pumps are truly great and the 40v line has become a game changer around my home.

Very new to doing anything with power tools, but I've found the Ryobi tools I use on occasion to be great. I found myself using the Multitool far more than I anticipated, and it got me out of a jam where I needed to cut something off of a deadbolt lock (it was faulty and I had to reach the screws to remove it from the door, or I could never close the door). Everything stock, and it worked great.

The multitool has paid for itself many times over at this point for me. I had never thought about using it for what you did, that's really smart! Thanks for watching and commenting.
